In December there was a poll by Survation about Network Rail. They discovered that nearly 60% of those asked did not want Network Rail to be privatised, and only 24% did. Even among Conservative voters the majority did not want it to be privatised. So it's not even party ideology - it's Cameron and Osborne wanting to shrink the state so there's nothing left.

Campaigners in Cornwall managed to stop their NHS services being sold off to private health companies.
weownit.org.uk is a good campaigning group.
The first link is a petition to sign up to if you do not want the stations to be sold off. The second lists many of the 18 stations, including all of the London ones, which are being sold off.
I bet if they are sold off, some will be to the French government.
The French and German governments own more of our utilities than we do.

The stations will probably become a separate business and the train companies will have to pay to stop in order to deposit and pick up passengers which will ensure the ticket prices have to go up. hmm

The government is now wanting to sell off all the railway stations that Network Rail still owns.
