How will you vote in the EU referendum? (Thread 2)

(1001 Posts)

The previous discussion on this got to 1000 posts so I'm starting a new thread so we can continue talking about it here. Here's a link to the previous thread.

It was. Here you are.

nigglynellie Sun 10-Apr-16 16:24:01

Have you been reading Winnie the Pooh? or was it House at Pooh Corner? My grandson could tell me as they are his fave books! ( original copies of course!)

thatbags Sun 10-Apr-16 16:25:09

Well, yes, dj, one would expect such a blog post to be written by a Euro-Sceptic.

Being sceptical about stuff (any stuff) is not a bad thing, you know. Quite the reverse.

thatbags Sun 10-Apr-16 16:25:57

niggly, yes smile. "Backsun" is now well used family vocabulary!

thatbags Sun 10-Apr-16 16:31:37

Common parlance is the phrase I was looking for.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 16:31:43

Isn't he advocating the Norwegian Model?

thatbags Sun 10-Apr-16 16:48:37

I should read his blog if you want to know what he's advocating, ww.

Seems to me he's not so much advocating as making a reasoned argument against Project Fear.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 16:51:56

I did skim read it and he is advocating the Norwegian model, so not sure where that gets him apart from no vote or veto, and more immigrants that so many of the outer space are wanting to prevent.

Another article by a Brexiter, with a breakdown of the fears Brexiters have, by Liam Fox. Worth reading regardless of what you think of Fox or of Tories in general. It's a cross-party issue this EU Referendum.

durhamjen Sun 10-Apr-16 17:02:42

Have you read the rest of the thread, bags?

Apparently there is a way to leave the E.U. An economically neutral way which will not upset business or lose jobs. ‘Flexcit’ - which is supposed to dispel the lies and uncertainty produced by those who are trying to confuse as nobody knows with regard to honest figures and accounting.

This was from Chrissy, who seems to think he is not biased. He lead the Brexit campaign, which is quite biased to me.
Chrissy did not seem to know who it had been written by. She did not even know it had 421 pages.

petra Sun 10-Apr-16 17:14:37

" Chrissy did not seem to know who it had been written by. She did not even know it had 421 pp"
Your sounding like a child in the playground now. Please miss, I know more than her. Pathetic and laughable

Chrissye07 Sun 10-Apr-16 18:17:45

Firstly thank you for the kind comments. Its much more welcoming than a wasp sting. And secondly thank you to durhamjen who, although indirectly was one of the ones that were accusing me and other new posters of completing a survey about the EU to win £100 vouchers, pointed me in the direction of the forums and also informed me of who Richard North is. I did think at first that you were being helpful until I realised you had a hidden agenda of slating everything I write, right or wrong.

And you're right durhamjen, I don't know very much which is why I am trying to read everything possible with an open mind? Are you? Or are you so much in a rut that you won't consider any other option?
If we were all so well informed there wouldn't be any doubt for some people would there? Sometimes we're guilty of reading what we want to read and saying what we think we know, me included.

As pointed out we don't know what will happen if we come out but there are no guarantees that things will improve if we stay in. If everyone was happy with the way things are there wouldn't be a vote? Or is that just me being ignorant?

petra Sun 10-Apr-16 18:45:25

Chrissy You learn fast, don't you :~) And no, your not ignorant, or should I say as blinkered as some.
We have a saying on here: I feel another link coming. Lol.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 19:32:39

Just watching Sunday Politic about defence and and the EU. Apparently there isn't a single country that thinks we should leave the EU. Well apart from Russia and their cohorts.

Ana Sun 10-Apr-16 20:04:13

Well, why would they? If they're EU members they want our (rather large) financial contribution to continue, and if they're not they probably have their own agenda or don't really give a damn but don't like us anyway.

Chrissye07 Sun 10-Apr-16 20:17:25

I'm trying petra smile
I wish I'd watched that whitewave. With work and one thing and another I keep missing programmes like that. What channel was it on?

I'm going to be really honest and say I based my out decision on what other people were saying, as in family and friends. My mum and dad are in their very late 70's and want out so I asked why and listened with no opinion because I didn't have one. I didn't know enough to and obviously still don't. Work colleagues saying out. Close friends in their late 50's want in so again I asked why and listened. I guess my out vote was more about the majority of who I listened to and what they were saying some information that is nothing to do with whether we're in the EU or not. So I decided to google it. How are we supposed to know who is right or wrong? Which ever way we vote we will never know if the other option would have been better. Its a big decision and very confusing. I read one article and I want to stay in, then another and I want to come out. The problem is a lot of people will vote because of other's and their opinion instead of looking for facts themselves and even when they do they are looking at facts from inners or outers?!

I've enjoyed reading most of the posts on here from everyone because it has given me an insight to what other 'real' people are thinking that know more about it all than me.

petra Sun 10-Apr-16 20:18:59

Rhetorical question, who are Russia's cohorts
Who else counts when it comes to opinions of defence: America. The CIA supported the the Taliban. That was good judgement, wasn't it?
But give them their due, they did learn the error of their ways.

Chrissye07 Sun 10-Apr-16 20:23:00

I was thinking the same Ana. Why do other countries want us to stay in? I wouldn't mind watching that programme.

petra Sun 10-Apr-16 20:39:53

Chrissy why do the other countries want us to stay in. If we're talking about the EU, it's not so much the other EU countries, more the old boy club ( the eu commission) that are bricking it because they know there are others just waiting to do the same . Holland and Spain, just for a start, and it won't take much for the Greeks to jump ship.

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 20:44:28

Well perhaps I should have made it clearer, not a single country in the world thinks we would be sensible to leave the Eu

POGS Sun 10-Apr-16 20:50:23

Chrissy

Did you know there was another thread hence this is no. 2. When a thread reaches 1000 posts it automatically stops.

It was better than this one, IMHO, as more posters took the trouble to post giving a variety of views and it is well worth a read if you have the time, well if you are prepared to read 1000 posts that started as far back as Jan 28th grin.

POGS Sun 10-Apr-16 21:02:33

Of course the other EU countries do not want us to leave. The mantra of the European Union is 'Ever Closer Union' . The bigger it gets and the more reliant countries are on the EU the more they like it. Democracy is not the desire of the EU , power at all costs is it's goal and controlled by a political elite that does not care about the member states but keeping themselves in direct control .

Whist Armed Forces have been mentioned what thoughts are there about the EU desire for a European Army made up from the 28 countries. Who do you think will be the biggest contributers. My guess, the usual suspects Britain and France . Will we have a say? Will we have any voice as to whether we agree or not. I won't hold my breath.

Chrissye07 Sun 10-Apr-16 21:06:50

Thanks POGS I will definitely make the time to read the other thread.

POGS Sun 10-Apr-16 21:47:35

Chrissy

It's a bit like War and Peace. grin

whitewave Sun 10-Apr-16 22:01:45

No country IN THE WORLD not just the EU as everyone keeps saying
