Here's another one. Chair resigned over expenses in Calderdale. The books look decidedly dodgy.

Under current rules, election spending returns are not published online. Instead they are held by returning officers in council offices and only made available for inspection on request.

That's got to change.

Every day on Twitter there is more information emerging about the extent of this fraud. Today it was alleged that Tory HQ hired a temp via an ad in the job centre to give out leaflets and go around the constituency helping the activists. A Scottish activist apparently posted on Facebook details of her trip down south to help campaign in Thanet South including meals etc.
Most interesting of all is the evidence that the Tory HQ had EIGHT "battle buses" going around the country in 2015, full of teams campaigning for local candidates. This is looking like the biggest corruption of democracy since the abolition of rotten boroughs. And the BBC are more or less ignoring it. Have complained. They spent a huge amount of time covering the anti-semitism in the Labour Party allegations and virtually none so far on this.
This country is in the invidious position of being taken into an incredibly important referendum based on legislation passed by a government that may have won the election due to wholesale expenses fraud. A constitutional crisis or what?

It's a database of supposedly national Tory spend at the general election. It's amazing how much national stuff is spent in the marginals, rather than nationally.
I was also surprised at how much they spent on research at change.org.

whitewave they are supposed to save the voting papers for a year and a day. In south Thanet the box's that went missing and were found with the security tabs broke, the contents were shredded same day.

For the electoral commission to investigate any fraud. The problem is that there is no central collection of accounts. There should be, then this could not happen.
On the other hand, what is not wanted is a "We will learn lessons" statement.

I doubt if it's fraud and certainly not by politicians. It's more likely to be administrative error/incompetence by council staff, which isn't the same thing.

That's what it looks like, daphne. The Polish man involved said he had filled the form in accurately, giving his nationality as Polish, but the person in the office had made a mistake, which has been corrected now.
The EU members I know who live here have not had a polling card.

Thank you for that link Durhamjen outlining allegations that Tory HQ was employing temps during the election campaign to phone voters in marginal constituencies and do rather more than just market research (which is allowed). Asking neutral questions OK, asking leading questions that might influence people not ok unless you declare the spending on the temps in the local spending returns. You don't get many temps for £15k, which is the local limit.
These are presumably the kind of "political services" for which Lynton Crosby was both paid and knighted.

I like the fact that the judge realised that there was undue delay in the Tory party getting their expenses out into the public domain, as well.
