The EU - we are on the home straight folks!

Did anybody watch the Last Leg last night, with Jeremy Corbyn?
Really funny, and he got across some good points.

I wonder if he would offer his services as a brain surgeon or an opera singer or an artist or one of the Olympic team? Seeing as experts are such rubbish in his opinion.

There is a website I go on with my grandson called Topmarks, with an Oxfam programme called Mapping the World. It's very interesting to look at the maps and see us as others see us, not always the centre of the world.

Does anyone know if people in Australia or New Zealand are taught that the UK is part of Europe in their geography lessons? Their maps tend to be centred on the Pacific Ocean rather than the Atlantic.

In 2000, Gove wrote an article for the Centre of Policy Studies claiming that the Northern Ireland peace process would never work. I don't understand what you're implying. I know it has, although modern French and German are catching up with loan words. Nearly all European languages are descended from Indo-European.

PS. Russia (at least the western part) IS part of Europe.

There is no geographical separation between Europe and Asia.

According to the definition of a continent in the strict sense, an island cannot be part of any continent, but by convention and in practice most major islands are associated with a continent.

We had that discussion further up one of the threads Harri - the British Isles is geographically on the European Continental shelf and was once joined to Europe - it is part of the continent of Europe. If not part of Europe which continent does it belong to?

We are not physically part of Europe, we are an island.

When people in Australia, New Zealand and Canada learn geography, are they not told that the UK is part of Europe?
Why would they get upset at us being part of the EU when we are physically part of Europe? They are part of different continents.

I think that was what forging ever closer links with the EU meant to us - that it was more important than links with Australia and Canada, perhaps that family was of less importance than our closer neighbours.

I have strong links to the EU. My grandson is Danish as is his mother. My daughter in law is Spanish. I have cousins in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. I have family links to the US.

I do not want to say to any of them that their background is less important than mine. That's what leaving the EU would mean to me.

I have family in Belgium and Germany, I will still vote out.

Is it just me (and very many of my friends) who have much closer links with NZ and Australia, with DC, cousins, friends' DC travelling and living in those countries? And in Canada, America, South America?
We can't be that unusual. I only know a couple of relatives who have strong links to the EU.

Jingle I think I am right in saying that the UK and France have produced our own terrorists and that the vast majority of those involved in bomb attacks here and there were born in the country where the crimes were committed.
And yes of course there is a lot of cross border co-operation in fighting crime.
Yes Trisher I know of one young woman who is studying an Environmental science degree in Sweden (where it is free to her as it is to Swedish students) and my niece is contemplating an art conservation Master's in Amsterdam. Again no fees - unlike here where EU students have to pay high fees for Master's courses.

The thing I mentioned about not being able to deport dangerous people, is the one thing that worries me about staying in. Apart from that, I am definitely in the Remain camp.
