The EU - we are on the home straight folks!

roses, if you look at statistics- in high end business, banking and politics- those who went to Public Schools do have a massively disproportionate % of wealth, influence and power- so its not irrelevant really. I don't hold it against friends and family who have also gone to top public schools and send their children there today- but to deny the facts is not helpful.

Ye Olde Boys network is still very much alive an well in some sectors, including politics.

I taught in Comprehensive schools with pride- and my DDs went to comprehensive schools either and did very well out of it too.

Whitewave although I am generally for staying in I do recognise that the EU is not, by any means, perfect. I can see why, for instance that 30-39 year old, University educated would vote for in and the older, working, none University educated would vote out. The first group benefit from immigration from the EU when the highly educated and talented from Europe join their company and help them succeed. The second see their wages pushed down, their areas change and are told there is a pressure on services because of large numbers congregated in small areas. The problem with immigration is it is neither all good or all bad. I believe we should sort that out from within the EU but I think we (those who want to stay in) should understand that, should "in" win the problem will not go away.

I have been phoned twice by people with polling questionnaires. I refused to answer questions from either of them, so wherever the demographic statistics came from, they don't include me.

I wonder who dreamt that one up, voting by demography ? I do not know of anyone who has been asked how they will vote, except on GN. It is not helpful to suggest that those voting out are lower class and not educated and come from the east of England. Does that mean all the remains are highly educated southerners ? I really don't think so.

I'm afraid I rather got the impression from Michael Gove that getting out of the EU was personal - revenge for his dad loosing his business.

I was watching a programme about the rise of the right wing between the wars, it rang so many bells. Quite alarming.

there are too many comments along these lines, and all they do is dilute the arguement.Humbug has nothing to do with what school a person attended.

Agreed Alea- Gove is one of the very few in current GVT who didn't go to public school- and I admire him for that, and that alone.

Now re those statistics, I know some may find this offensive- but it's amazing how their mirror the ones in the USA currently.

Love the way Gove talked about the elite-talk about a laugh a minute. How was Eton then Michael? Full of those terrible elites? How did you bear it? Ordinary man Mike must have felt so out of his depth

I have no affection for Gove, but hate to see false accusations especially when allied to inverted snobbery.
Michael Gove was educated at Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen, a highly respected school, admittedly independent but NOT a "public" boarding school in the English sense. His Adoptive father who had a small business and lab technician mother paid fees at no small sacrifice to themselves. When the business started to fail, Govecwas offered a full scholarship.
Get your facts right, please, and challenge the argument, not the man.
