You didn't think I would ignore this did you?

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 23:30:48

Yes, Gracesgran, I think Cameron is possibly feeling very sorry for himself now, and wondering how he can come out smelling of roses.
I know he said he did not want to have another term as PM, but he needn't have gone about it in such a kamikaze manner.

rosesarered Sat 04-Jun-16 23:28:35

the final result will be very close whichever way it goes.

rosesarered Sat 04-Jun-16 23:24:47

Cab but? IPad, grin came from...

Gracesgran Sat 04-Jun-16 23:21:54

I don't know Jen I certainly agree with Magicwriter about being glad when it is June 24th and I really don't think this referendum should have been called; it is basically party political because the Conservatives are so split.

Thanks Granjura I have shared it - it will raise some smiles but as whitewave says it is too close for comfort.

rosesarered Sat 04-Jun-16 23:19:51

CAB but English German or from Timbuktu, it is way too high.

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 23:12:19

For your information, roses, it wasn't a German poll as has been suggested. Carry on fishing, though.

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 23:11:04

Magicwriter, when I lived in York, we had four 100 year events in ten years - floods.
No bans on referendums or general elections. Anyone who wants a ban is not being democratic, like Cameron when he came in and immediately extended the timing of the general election to five years, when before it had been nearer four years.

I like that, granjura. Going to send it on to all those I know on facebook, because I am not.

whitewave Sat 04-Jun-16 21:47:01

It would be funny if it wasn't so worrying.
What has this government achieved? Even this referendum is a total shambles.

Will be glad when it is June 24th, although still not 100% which way to go. And if it goes the wrong way for Scotland, we could then be pushed into another referendum for Independence! Arggggggggggh, politics is beginning to drive me mad lol. There should be a ban on anymore referendums or general elections for at least another two years or so.

Boris cannot be of sound mind, he claims if we leave 300,000 jobs will be created

JessM Sat 04-Jun-16 19:40:53

Most people in Scotland, Wales and N Ireland fear we would be in deep trouble if we left. The scenario that alarms us is:
Recession - for a short while - a year or two at least, as predicted by vast majority of economists. (who often disagree, but not on this)
More austerity, reducing further the amount of funding we get from Westminster to run hospitals, schools etc.
Loss of regional funding from the EU - much of which is used to promote economic growth.
Loss of farm subsidies, which will mean loss of rural jobs - the farmers support a wide range of local businesses directly and indirectly related to farming. (The farmers are not believing Gove and Johnson when they "promise" that this money would not be lost. The are noting that extra money is being "promised" to the NHS and many other things. Farmers are not daft. On the map that Durhamjen posted yesterday one of the keenest counties to Remain was Ceredigion which is virtually all farms and not much else.
Many businesses are worried about their exports, whether it is farm trailers, whisky or lamb (a lot of mountain lamb goes to Spain etc)
Also
The N Irish don't want border controls reducing the flow of shoppers from the south and hampering their own freedom to nip back and fore over an open border, should they fancy visiting their aunty Maureen or having a weekend in Dublin.

The polls change all the time and a lot depends on which one you're reading. The bookies seem the best predictors of outcome.
Yes Scotland does seem to be keener on remaining in. Phew!

rosesarered Sat 04-Jun-16 17:39:13

Who trusts polls? remember the one that you had recently djen that stated 79% were for Remain?

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 16:26:43

All the polls I've seen have Scotland voting to remain by a big margin. It's England that's the problem.

Jane10 Sat 04-Jun-16 15:38:21

Just an aside- Nicola Sturgeon actually lost her majority in the recent Scottish election.
I can only hope that Scotland sees sense and votes to remain.
I've been involved with some very discouraging arguments with younger people on Facebook recently. I was surprised and extremely disappointed at some of the nonsense some were spouting. Am still worrying!

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 15:15:09

Hard to believe this is only the third UK wide referendum.

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 15:13:00

Local and regional counts, and then the national one which is where the regional Manchester one is.
Just to prove how important the Northern powerhouse is to them.

How the result will be declared. In Manchester.

"“Can you name me any economic organisations that say Britain would be better off outside the EU?” Faisal Islam began, hell-bent on being just as combative as the night before. Everymike was proud to say that absolutely no one agreed with him, because he, Everymike and Everyboris were right and everyone else in the world was wrong. Everymike was just as keen to say that every country in the entire world had our worst interests at heart. “People would be better off if they trusted the leaders of this country,” he snapped. Presumably he doesn’t think the prime minister, the chancellor, the home secretary and the foreign secretary are leaders of this country."

Good name for him, Everymike. From this article.

whitewave Sat 04-Jun-16 14:59:55

Are the votes going to counted by country or region or constituent or how?

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 14:57:20

You'll just have to make sure that you persuade lots of others to vote to stay in the EU, Jane10, and then there will be no need for another Scottish referendum.

Jane10 Sat 04-Jun-16 13:55:29

Another Scottish referendum? Nooooooooooo! shock

durhamjen Sat 04-Jun-16 13:10:32

Wouldn't blame it. I imagine Nicola Sturgeon has got all the support she needs to call another referendum, as the Tories lied to her before the last one. I know it was supposed to be once in a lifetime, but so is the EU referendum, even though Boris is already promising another if they lose.

whitewave Sat 04-Jun-16 12:53:37

Scotland might bugger off though
