Abdication?

Well, The Queen now is 90 years old. Do any of you think that she should abdicate? She looked today like she was falling asleep at the church service for her birthday.

Are there any 90 year olds on here still working?

Is it not time for her to put on her tartan slippers, wrap herself in her shawl, sit in her favourite arm chair and watch some daytime tele? Is it not time for her to let the younger (if Charles can be classed as younger if you know what I mean) to take over the lead of the country?

I think I would be quite upset at sending my mother/grandmother out to work at 90 years old.

Sigh and shrug!

I suppose whingeing about the Royals passes the time as a change to banging on about some political topic (yawn)

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 23:26:01

Margaret, not so much their ages but they still live in an Edwardian court style . I do wonder how large the royal families are, we provide homes for at least twenty five of this country's Royal family, some think they are worth the cost, others do not

Thank you Margaretx for your reply. I know our very dear Dutch friends can't quite understand that most of us regard the Queen with deep affection, and not many want to change her for a younger smarter model!!

Nigglynellie
No I am English and live in Germany and there is quite bit of interest here in the surrounding countries and their very modern Royal families. It was in the local newspaper
Some of them make the British Royal family look very oldfashioned.
I am not a Monarchist and never was but people here always think I must love the queen just because they know I'm British.

Alea Thu 16-Jun-16 19:07:45

I wish.............[sigh]

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 19:02:46

Too funny

Elegran Thu 16-Jun-16 18:57:40

And you know beyond doubt that HM the queen doesn't give a toss for the homeless? That among the 600 or so charities she is patron of, there isn't one which supports them ? Anyone who is a patron of a charity makes donations and promotes the charity in whatever way they can.

And if the homeless are NOT among those she is patron of, you know for a certainty that she doesn't donate anyway?

Where did you get that inside knowledge?

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 18:50:35

And some can not be a republican but still criticise this family

nigglynellie Thu 16-Jun-16 18:46:31

Willingly!

Jalima Thu 16-Jun-16 18:40:26

Some people are Royalists
Some people are Republicans
Some people see the Monarchial system as the best system because it is apolitical, stable and the best value for money without being ardent Royalists and 'loving' the Royal Family.

Can we agree to disagree?

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 18:37:28

Alea I will decide when to stop posting my opinions not you, end of

Alea Thu 16-Jun-16 18:20:56

confused What does Cliff Richard have to do with anything it anyway?

Alea Thu 16-Jun-16 18:19:17

It IS flogging a dead horse, Ab. You have expressed your entrenched anti-Royalist views every which way. From my observation, the majority (not all) of members do not share your opinions, so nothing you can say is going to lead to productive discussion. Instead it has become a litany of your grievances against the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family.
To what end? Venting your Republican spleen?
You have your opinions. End of.

nigglynellie Thu 16-Jun-16 18:12:21

Bizarre indeed!!

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 17:28:22

The victim act doesn't become you niggly, check back in the thread then you may have the honesty and courage to apologise for your accusation

merlotgran Thu 16-Jun-16 17:19:39

This is getting to be a bizarre thread. A ding-dong about the Queen v The homeless and now we have to listen to CLIFF???

grin

Nonnie1 Thu 16-Jun-16 17:14:10

Please listen to that Cliff record girls. It will soften the hardest heart. Your flames are like a butterfly's wings on a window today

nigglynellie Thu 16-Jun-16 17:12:53

It's a shame you've had to turn this into a personal vendetta, but there you are, you have and there's no more to be said.

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 17:08:17

Please save your pity for the homeless niggly ,

nigglynellie Thu 16-Jun-16 17:05:50

I worked in social services for the elderly for twenty-five years, most of whom were extremely vulnerable. As I said, I feel sorry for you.

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 16:16:32

Poor niggly, you have never experienced anger on behalf of the vulnerable, I can believe that

nigglynellie Thu 16-Jun-16 16:13:17

You're right ab I did and I should have stuck to it. Actually I feel sorry for you, it must be awful to feel such anger.

Anniebach Thu 16-Jun-16 15:41:33

Niggly, a few days ago you said we should ignore each other's posts, you tend to do this though

nigglynellie Thu 16-Jun-16 15:36:10

Time to wind up this conversation I'd have thought. There's some pretty spiteful comments here, surprise, surprise, and I for one don't want to discuss it any more. I think the Queen is a fantastic person ditto Prince Phillip. As for saying she is uncaring, a) how does the person saying this know? and why this personal attack? You may disprove of the system and that's fair enough, but to bring it down to the level of personal attacks about people who you don't know, and have never even met, not just the Queen but her family as well, is outrageous. End of conversation for me.
