Abdication?

Well, The Queen now is 90 years old. Do any of you think that she should abdicate? She looked today like she was falling asleep at the church service for her birthday.

Are there any 90 year olds on here still working?

Is it not time for her to put on her tartan slippers, wrap herself in her shawl, sit in her favourite arm chair and watch some daytime tele? Is it not time for her to let the younger (if Charles can be classed as younger if you know what I mean) to take over the lead of the country?

I think I would be quite upset at sending my mother/grandmother out to work at 90 years old.

I'm sick of hearing the cost of their dresses and shoes while so many others struggle.
II am sure many elected heads of state and their 'first ladies' plunder the public purse and I have no doubt that anyone we elected would be the same - even if we got rid of them they always seem to stay on the gravy trains.

Compared to some, the Royal Family seem quite good value for money and the Queen is very good value, pound for pound! I prefer someone apolitical rather than an elected person interfering with their finger on the nuculer button.

Besides which, HM and the immediate family are rich enough in their own right not to abuse the public purse; many of the others don't receive any money from us, the taxpayer.

Trump or HM? Oh, what a dilemma

I do think they are lazy and probably fund royal duties boring, but that's the job, like all jobs a mixed bag
anniebach I wonder if HM has a say in exactly how much they do - it is well-known that she treasured her time in Malta away from the spotlight that being royal means, and which is so much more intense these days and possibly wants to give them that chance before royal duties take over their lives.
Possibly Henry would have preferred an Army life or may have emigrated if he had much choice or say in the matter. When he finds a role that suits him and his personality I'm sure he will carry it out whole-heartedly, as he did with the Invictus Games. Perhaps with William, it's finding the balance between carrying out the career he would like but having to carry out royal duties too.

They may have privilege but they don't have the choices that our DC and DGC have in life.

Thanks, niggly.

I am genuinely interested to know what country has a model of governance that the Republican posters believe we should adopt their model.
North Korea?

Jalima Sun 12-Jun-16 19:34:53

Who is Walt?
Anniebach lol

"I almost feel sorry for you. Anyway, time for a G&T and read the Sunday newspaper. Goodnight all."

Hadn't realised that this was the new soop's kitchen.
Better stay out of it.

Jalima, how much time do they need? I think Harry has found a role thst suits him , hope he doesn't stick to it for life . Sorry cannot agree that part time air ambulance pilot is his career he loves flying helicopters , forty hours a month is hardly dedication to a career. I think he loves family life and I can understand this, poor chap must have suffered terribly as a child , and I am not being unkind or bitching but I honestly believe he suffered emotional abuse . Perhaps after saying this I am being unkind in criticising his lack of willingness to work. Need to think this out

Jalima Sun 12-Jun-16 19:46:02

Perhaps we need Durhamjen to pour us a G&T - or just a T if anyone is TeeTotal
Cheers!

POGS Sun 12-Jun-16 20:13:45

Durhamjen

Why do you think this thread is the next soops kitchen thread?

POGS Sun 12-Jun-16 20:14:33

Jalima

North Korea grin.

Elegran Sun 12-Jun-16 20:22:10

anniebach See this video for who Walt is. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XDxAzVEbN4

Anniebach Sun 12-Jun-16 20:32:51

Thank you Elegran, I read the thread several times looking for Walt

POGS Sun 12-Jun-16 20:40:56

Sorry Anniebach I thought his fame ranked up there with the likes of Joyce Grenville for this kind of comedic dialogue , it's that era.

The queen doesn't have as much power as I thought she had.

Hadn't realised that this was the new soop's kitchen.

Soop is entitled to read other threads and comment on them, durhamjen. And as her comments were addressed to Annie why stick your oar in?

Anniebach Sun 12-Jun-16 22:43:51

Derogatory remarks POGS? Best you do get bothered and bump it yes?

Anniebach Sun 12-Jun-16 22:53:17

We disagree again POGS, love of my country has nothing to do with pride , may be for you but not for me

Elegran Mon 13-Jun-16 07:31:29

"Hadn't realised that this was the new soop's kitchen." I don't imagine soop will be encouraged to post again now she has been banished back to the kitchen. Perhaps it was unwise of her to stick her head above the parapet right in front of durhamjen's soapbox.

Anniebach Mon 13-Jun-16 08:21:24

Elegran may I draw your attention to the post just three above yours? Wouldn't want you to be accused of sticking your oar in would we ? But expect those attacks are reserved by the usual trio for Jen

Alea Mon 13-Jun-16 08:38:37

confused
Who is "sticking their oar in" to what?
Who are the " usual trio"?
What was your point anniebach?

Anniebach Mon 13-Jun-16 08:48:47

Alea, been expecting you, good morning

Bloody Hell, dj! Just how nasty can you get? shock angry
Shame on you.

Anniebach Mon 13-Jun-16 08:57:12

We have more wannabe moderators than moderators grin , a few here would have to seek out another victim if you succeeded in silencing Jen

thatbags Mon 13-Jun-16 09:07:16

I don't want to silence anyone. There do not exist nicer people than Soop; jen's nasty comment is just that. Nasty. I think she should apologise. Always supposeing she cares anyway.

I'm disgusted.
