I am sorry to be watching this ' unravelling' news report .

I hope she will be OK. Her poor family.

It is being reported that 2 people have been shot and 2 stabbings but no police confirmation as yet. The area is on lock down at the moment and there is a Primary School in the vicinity .

I hope the gunman is caught soon.

The way to fight them jing is to never give them the chance to air their foul hate messages. Be vigilant about challenging seemingly ordinary everyday messages wrapped as common sense but with an underlying message of hate and intolerance.

Keep your compassion, decency and care and use it as a mirror to all the hate you see and hear.

POGS : I've already offered my most heartfelt wishes to a devastated family through a friend of the family who knew Jo.

Her view was Jo would wish people to reflect upon what they thought, said and did to create a kinder, more courageous, warmer and more inclusive world, rather than to respond with hatred, exclusion and divisiveness. Jo was a politician after all, and worked in humanitarian aid. She was a champion of using politics and social action for more equality and an inclusive world view. It was what she stood for.

I must live in a bubble.

Most of the people I know or are related to have opposing views, but none express them with hatred and none has streamed into my home.

rosesarered Fri 17-Jun-16 20:21:57

Mine neither Jalima ( and I suspect not anybody else) hate streaming into homes for heavens sake, how OTT.
POGS I think that you, I and several others are whistling into the wind about how we see this thread developing ( has already developed).sad

Yes, it was brilliant.

Jalima and Rosesarered, best you don't buy a radio or tv

One worrying thing that might come out of this is that fewer women might want to become MPs.
Jo Cox promoted equality. There is a change.org petiton to get 50/50 representation in parliament.

change.org/5050Parliament

Change.org is one of the charities that helped set up her giving page.

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 21:11:19

I also liked the line that she was proud she was made in Yorkshire.

Gracesgran Fri 17-Jun-16 21:21:01

A new women became an MP today!

This murder has devasted everyone and everyone needs to find their own way to come to terms with it, I think it unfair to attempt to guide the thread the way some wish it to go, come to think of it telling people their post is not approved of is trying to stop thei right to freedom of speech . I am so against the death penalty and would disagree with those who support it, but not on this thread, anger, sorrow, bewilderment etc affects people differently and I would understand if anyone said he should be hanged , it's their way of expressing their distress . The horror of this murder will take time to fade a little .

Just my opinion

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 22:13:37

Just listened to the news, Nazi regalia, a shorn off gun, the police are speaking of right wing extremism , they are working with the terrorist squad .

Hatred does indeed breed hatred

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 22:48:42

If you can find it, listen to James O'Brien's speech on LBC this morning about Jo Cox.

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 23:05:03

I will Jen, thank you

I find it strange that the gunmen allegedly shouted "British First". If he was trying to single out a certain individual because of a political view, why then did he also attack a 77 year old whose views he would have had no knowledge of? Strange also that it is so near to 23 June. Even the "Telegraph" broadsheet find it difficult to fathom.

daphnedill Sat 18-Jun-16 01:03:23

According to the eye witness reports, the 77 year old tried to help Jo, but the murderer lashed out at him with a knife.

daphnedill Sat 18-Jun-16 03:02:54

Does the man in the middle of the Britain First banner Third picture) remind anybody of anybody?

Mair has been charged with murder, gbh and having an offensive weapon. In court on Saturday at westminster.

Search of his house turned up Nazi regalia.

whitewave Sat 18-Jun-16 03:26:46

Mair!?

When was that taken?

daphnedill Sat 18-Jun-16 03:38:03

11 October 2015. It's gone viral and the police have a copy.

A small group of Muslims had a stall in Dewsbury and were inviting people to talk to them about their faith. Apparently 26 Britain First activists turned up and harrassed them. It's not clear if the man in the middle was one of the activists or a by-stander, but he obviously didn't mind having his photo taken with them. (Not that he looks like Mair's twin brother or anything.)

It somewhat undermines Jayda Fransen's denial on the Britain First site that they had ever had any contact with Mair (if it's him, of course).

daphnedill Sat 18-Jun-16 03:42:54

Sorry! Not 26 members - 5.

They visited 26 mosques (having a senior moment).
