I am sorry to be watching this ' unravelling' news report .

I hope she will be OK. Her poor family.

It is being reported that 2 people have been shot and 2 stabbings but no police confirmation as yet. The area is on lock down at the moment and there is a Primary School in the vicinity .

I hope the gunman is caught soon.

What is wrong with nationalism ? Please have a think about this, as more people not less should have a sense of pride in the UK.

Below is the meaning of the word.

patriotic feeling, principles, or efforts.

"an early consciousness of nationalism and pride"

Hope it all goes well Jess.
She was a great representative of the people of her constituency - they all said how they could approach her in the street etc - that made her a wonderful MP.

If the Brexit campaign win we will have to get use to more of the likes of The Britain First lot, they will emerge like worms from under stones and our grandchildren will live in a country of hate .

Anniebach Sat 18-Jun-16 07:49:59

Yes Jess, good luck

whitewave Sat 18-Jun-16 07:48:26

I'm speaking at a small event this morning to commemorate the death of Jo Cox. It was going to be a Remain event and I spent a chunk of yesterday re-planning. Wishing I had managed to organise a PA system. My DH last night was musing on why we might be doing this when we never met her. I'm grappling with trying to express why - another re-write of my speech needed. Something along the lines of MPs being the embodiment of our political rights. When we elect an MP, we give a little bit of our own political rights/freedoms to our MP and while they are in office they carry these rights and freedoms for us all. So an attack on an MP is an attack on all the people they represent. Does that make sense?

Sorry! Not 26 members - 5.

They visited 26 mosques (having a senior moment).

11 October 2015. It's gone viral and the police have a copy.

A small group of Muslims had a stall in Dewsbury and were inviting people to talk to them about their faith. Apparently 26 Britain First activists turned up and harrassed them. It's not clear if the man in the middle was one of the activists or a by-stander, but he obviously didn't mind having his photo taken with them. (Not that he looks like Mair's twin brother or anything.)

It somewhat undermines Jayda Fransen's denial on the Britain First site that they had ever had any contact with Mair (if it's him, of course).

whitewave Sat 18-Jun-16 03:26:46

Mair!?

When was that taken?

Pamish Sat 18-Jun-16 03:24:39

Mair has been charged with murder, gbh and having an offensive weapon. In court on Saturday at westminster.

Search of his house turned up Nazi regalia.

Can you open this link? It's the same picture.

OK! I'll see if I can enlarge it.

whitewave Sat 18-Jun-16 03:08:32

I can't see it the picture is too small

daphnedill Sat 18-Jun-16 03:02:54

Does the man in the middle of the Britain First banner Third picture) remind anybody of anybody?

According to the eye witness reports, the 77 year old tried to help Jo, but the murderer lashed out at him with a knife.

CelticRose Sat 18-Jun-16 00:50:38

I find it strange that the gunmen allegedly shouted "British First". If he was trying to single out a certain individual because of a political view, why then did he also attack a 77 year old whose views he would have had no knowledge of? Strange also that it is so near to 23 June. Even the "Telegraph" broadsheet find it difficult to fathom.

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 23:05:03

I will Jen, thank you

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 22:48:42

If you can find it, listen to James O'Brien's speech on LBC this morning about Jo Cox.

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 22:13:37

Just listened to the news, Nazi regalia, a shorn off gun, the police are speaking of right wing extremism , they are working with the terrorist squad .

Hatred does indeed breed hatred

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 21:36:47

This murder has devasted everyone and everyone needs to find their own way to come to terms with it, I think it unfair to attempt to guide the thread the way some wish it to go, come to think of it telling people their post is not approved of is trying to stop thei right to freedom of speech . I am so against the death penalty and would disagree with those who support it, but not on this thread, anger, sorrow, bewilderment etc affects people differently and I would understand if anyone said he should be hanged , it's their way of expressing their distress . The horror of this murder will take time to fade a little .

Just my opinion

Gracesgran Fri 17-Jun-16 21:21:01

A new women became an MP today!

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 21:11:19

I also liked the line that she was proud she was made in Yorkshire.

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 20:58:48

One worrying thing that might come out of this is that fewer women might want to become MPs.
Jo Cox promoted equality. There is a change.org petiton to get 50/50 representation in parliament.

change.org/5050Parliament

Change.org is one of the charities that helped set up her giving page.

Jalima and Rosesarered, best you don't buy a radio or tv
