I am sorry to be watching this ' unravelling' news report .

I hope she will be OK. Her poor family.

It is being reported that 2 people have been shot and 2 stabbings but no police confirmation as yet. The area is on lock down at the moment and there is a Primary School in the vicinity .

I hope the gunman is caught soon.

Yes, it was brilliant.

whitewave Fri 17-Jun-16 20:27:24

I love Foxes biscuits.

whitewave Fri 17-Jun-16 20:22:11

Just watched her maiden speech. Good wasn't it?

Mine neither Jalima ( and I suspect not anybody else) hate streaming into homes for heavens sake, how OTT.
POGS I think that you, I and several others are whistling into the wind about how we see this thread developing ( has already developed).sad

Jalima Fri 17-Jun-16 20:13:07

I must live in a bubble.

Most of the people I know or are related to have opposing views, but none express them with hatred and none has streamed into my home.

Nonio Fri 17-Jun-16 20:12:47

POGS : I've already offered my most heartfelt wishes to a devastated family through a friend of the family who knew Jo.

Her view was Jo would wish people to reflect upon what they thought, said and did to create a kinder, more courageous, warmer and more inclusive world, rather than to respond with hatred, exclusion and divisiveness. Jo was a politician after all, and worked in humanitarian aid. She was a champion of using politics and social action for more equality and an inclusive world view. It was what she stood for.

The way to fight them jing is to never give them the chance to air their foul hate messages. Be vigilant about challenging seemingly ordinary everyday messages wrapped as common sense but with an underlying message of hate and intolerance.

Keep your compassion, decency and care and use it as a mirror to all the hate you see and hear.

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 20:01:50

Jamila, predjuduce and hate has been streaming into our homes for months , we have a poster threatened just for delivering leaflets

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 17-Jun-16 20:01:29

I wouldn't know how to go about fighting these hate groups. How many ordinary people do?

Jalima Fri 17-Jun-16 19:59:24

Thanks for the link djen
very moving, also disturbing.

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 19:56:05

It's the rest of it, Jalima, as you well know. I am not political point scoring. Neither are others on here.

This was written by the man who was having dinner with Jo Cox's husband the night before she died.

Thank goodness we have been able to witness decent, empathetic coverage by those who have only the desire to put aside politics, prejudice and hate in reflective thought for the sake of remembering what a terrible loss this has been.

Please stop it, POGS.

What on earth is wrong with that sentiment which I am sure most people will echo.

Jalima Fri 17-Jun-16 19:48:22

This is what I am finding confusing dd:
When a poster (accidently?) posted a link to a vile right wing, white supremacist website and I objected, it was MY post which was deleted

You objected to a link to a rightwing website which someone accidentally? posted, but then posted the actual vile words on another? rightwing forum.

If you objected to a link which people may or probably may not follow, why post an extract from another which you presumably object to also?

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 19:48:09

Yes, jingl, MPs have been warned of copycat attacks.

Anniebach Fri 17-Jun-16 19:47:32

POGS, the only hate which has been spoken of is hate of the brutal murder , how do you expect politics not to be mentioned when the victim was a politician

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 19:47:15

Please stop it, POGS.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 17-Jun-16 19:44:32

As anniebach has said ("One doesn't have to be a member of any extremist group to read, listen and then agree with them"), that is exactly what I think may have happened. You can imagine saddos sitting alone at their computers reading this awful stuff, and then deciding to take action off their own bat. Very sad.

Whitewave
Somehow since then we have gradually lost our sense of what is decent and what it means to care for our fellow human beings.

I hope you can reassure your DM that not everyone has lost their sense of what is decent.

POGS Fri 17-Jun-16 19:30:33

From my post at 11.17 this morning up to now I have been watching this thread.

I am know not only saddened but to be honest I am shocked at some posters.

All I can say is if you think for one minute your political point scoring, your lack of respect and tone is a reflection of what path most people have chosen to take today then to be honest I will never understand you.

Thank goodness we have been able to witness decent, empathetic coverage by those who have only the desire to put aside politics, prejudice and hate in reflective thought for the sake of remembering what a terrible loss this has been.

Lazigirl Fri 17-Jun-16 19:29:31

I love her too.

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 19:25:19

Whitewave, I love your mum.

whitewave Fri 17-Jun-16 19:22:24

I did my usual Mum visit today, and found Mum in tears -she is a tough old bird and has seen much in her nearly 100 years.

This is what she said. I have paraphrased as she talked all afternoon
"I grew up in the 30's and watched people like Mosley trying and failing to convince the British of his cause. We new what decency was. We were pleased to help the kinder transport children and opened our hearts to them, because we knew what decency was. I helped fight the war against a greater enemy and we defeated the fascists, because we knew what decency was. We abhorred the Rivers of Blood speech because we were decent. We opened our hearts to the people from East Africa because we knew what decency was. We were decent because we understood what community and fellowship meant. I was so pleased that the Common Market would protect us from the atrocities of another war.
During the 80s suddenly we were told community meant nothing- we must look after ourselves as individuals.
Somehow since then we have gradually lost our sense of what is decent and what it means to care for our fellow human beings.

Why when a decent human being recognises the need in so many human beings - just as we did all those years ago she is killed?

I have lived too long.

durhamjen Fri 17-Jun-16 19:06:49

Possible far right motive. Counter terrorism unit now involved.
