Absolutely agree with jevive similar posts. Whichever way it goes the politics is going to be more than interesting. How senior politicians with completely opposing views can all get back together and sound united will be more than interesting.

For anybody undecided, please remember your children and grandchildren. We mature folk can probably survive a recession and for many of us job losses will not be a major personal concern, but not so easy when you are making your way through life. I am voting in
for my children's future.

OK.. this is going to sound bonkers but... I love my partner so much, I can't even put into words how I feel. I admire him for his quiet patience with me, and for his wisdom and I find him to be the most interesting person to be with not because he is the life and soul of the party (he's the polar opposite) but because he is reasonable and sensible and kind.

So where m I going with this?

I want out and he wants in and it feels like I am doing him a disservice because of my views knowing how fair minded he is

And - he's a Virgo ! Nothing to do with anything but it builds a picture up

I don't want to let him down, never mind the country, but I know which way I want to vote, and it still does not sit right in my head

I think the worms came out of the can when UKIP became prominent in the last General Election.

I'll just say one thing. If your emotions lean towards Brexit, work out what they CAN effectively do, without isolating us completely in the way Cuba was from the US?

Don't know - have voted, but still unsure whether made the right choice - we ain't got the Commonwealth to supply us any more, so Europe is our only real trading partner now, but don't like being told what to do by Brussels and don't like any of the potential PMs, on either side! The one thing I know for sure is that if we get Boris with Trump and Putin as leaders in charge of the 3 major world powers, heaven help the world!!!

BadenKate Where do you live? How do I get to your Promised Land of Milk and Honey? Are crime stats high? What is law enforcement like? What is the healthcare like? Would I get subsidised housing? I have a Bus Pass and have just purchased a Senior Rail Card. I note that in Germany and France and some other EU states, senior citizens get much, much more. Having just read what I have written, I feel totally self serving and greedy. (No wonder there is a growing movement against the ageing population.) It doesn't matter that I have had to work full-time well past "legal" retirement age and paid NIC and tax since I left school. Nor does it matter that my forebears gave so much more.

I'd love to be able to feel jokey about the result and, like jinglbellsfrocks I have thought that a 'win for the other side' would be 'interesting' but I wouldn't have to put up with it for all that long, just because I'm elderly. But I fear for the future of my children and my grandchildren who would have to live with the consequences (I think you can probably guess from that how I will be voting )

I hope that, whichever way the democratic vote goes, the response will be temperate and accepting. I know how I will vote but if the other side swings it I will not complain. I will certainly not indulge in the abuse and invective that seems to have become the default position of one side of the argument whether the issue be in-out or left-right.

I can't see why Dave is making all the fuss about - the referendum was a big part of the Tory manifesto and like other things he seems to have separated himself from it. He should let the country decide and go with the decision. A few years ago he was strong saying he would vote for Turkey to join the EU and he is now almost denying this. I can only name a few MEPs and certainly none of the governing body of the EU. If France vote in Marie Le Pen next year there's a good chance that France could be leaving the EU too. Our small country will not be able to cope with all the EU migrants if we are unable to control our borders (we haven't been able to do this so far as part of the EU so no reason to think we will in the future if we remain). Nothing will change overnight. Let our courts decide our laws. Let's be independent and vote leave.

Will we REALLY notice any difference? Having spent most of my adult life listening to the lies,promises, threats and dire predictions of the politicians and other 'experts' I don't think we will. I am sure there will be hiccups if we vote leave but feel it will kick start our entrepreneurial spirit, alternately if we vote stay I hope we can change how the EU works. How's that for optimism

If Brexit wins, and the government refuses to implement- then I truly fear for rhe consequences. EDL and Britain First would go berserk- and I just can't, or don't want to imagine consequences

No, parliament will never pass it, so let's hope remain win and save any more anguish. The death of an MP has been a heavy price to pay for an exercise in public relations if that's what this is, never mind the financial cost, families at war with each other over it, and the ill temper on Gransnet. The ayes have it one way or the other!

They won't pass it, will they, who posted the number of MPs for remain and MPs for brexit on another thread - can't remember but it was overwhelmingly for remain.

So - is it an exercise in public relations? which has caused so much anguish.

Thank you TriciaF, so potentially all this commotion including the murder of an MP could have been avoided. For once I'm speechless! Will I bother to vote having just completely lost interest? probably not, best just to let it go and save more unpleasantness.
