Only a few months and there will be a new PM, who?

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 18:45:59

I don't suppose her meteoric rise has anything to do with the £800,000+ her brother-in-law has donated to the Conservative Party.

suzied Thu 07-Jul-16 18:38:32

And Boris is supporting her.

suzied Thu 07-Jul-16 18:37:37

So that will go down well with the Tory heartlands.

suzied Thu 07-Jul-16 18:36:57

Leadsome supports fox hunting and is opposed to gay marriage .

Anniebach Thu 07-Jul-16 18:35:59

IDS is supporting Leadsom , cheery thought

suzied Thu 07-Jul-16 18:33:43

Theresa May has better dress sense ( just being shallow).

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 18:25:17

Did you see the video of the March to support her? Apart from Theresa Villiers and a couple of others, they're all besuited men. What the heck has this country come to when we're reduced to this kind of stunt? For goodness sake, this is one of the most important jobs not only in this country, but the world, and we have marches with banners for somebody who appears to be no more qualified than a jumped-up Sunday school teacher.

I still can't quite believe that I'm supporting May, but she is by far the better candidate for the job.

Andrea Leadsom ( I expect she'll soon be called loathesome) has no cabinet experience, has lied on her CV, has dodgy financial connections, bogs on about massaging babies, and she could be our PM on the say so of a few mostly male middle aged members of the Tory party who will like her strict sound bites. scary times.

Three months ago there was a petition started for this gran to be able to stay in the UK instead of being sent back to South Africa.

Today the family have been sent papers for deportation. Theresa May obviously has her mind on other things.

Too many male Conservative MPs are still fixated on the all-powerful Nanny in the Nursery. It's a win-win for them.

Tegan Thu 07-Jul-16 17:57:08

I still can't believe that the woman I'd never heard of in the debate ( and who I instantly disliked) could potentially be PM.

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 17:43:25

I heard it, DaphneB.

Leadsom reminded me of a primary school headmistress. As a parent you expect it all to sound dumbed down and lacking in substance, but it hopefully makes the right impression on the children. There's nothing to think about, just firm and upbeat, kiddies! Patronising twaddle, but she may have calculated it just right for target audience.

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 17:40:15

Until then, I suppose we'll have another media circus. Theresa May has appointed Stephen Parkinson of 'Vote Leave' to run her campaign. Smart move!

rosesarered Thu 07-Jul-16 17:28:58

Well, it is now between May and Leadsom, we won't know which until early Sept.

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 13:40:41

I understand her speech about the economy wasn't received well either. It was all soundbites and empty promises.

I find her 'charity' work seriously creepy. I can't put a finger on it, but I worked for a similar organisation for a short while. Then I found out what was really going on and left. I hope some more details emerge, because something doesn't stack up.

DaphneBroon Thu 07-Jul-16 13:29:04

Leadsom got a good grilling on today's World At One. Her reissued CV, her flannelling about EU residents in the UK and how she went through both the Aye and the Noe lobbies on same-sex marriage.
Very, very flakey.

Anniebach Thu 07-Jul-16 13:27:44

Daphne, the Leadsom woman wants to take us out of the EU in a year ! Good grief, thatcher on speed and whip not handbag in hand

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 11:38:40

@ab

I am seriously terrified at the thought of Leadsom becoming leader. I though life was bad enough the day after the referendum, but it would be even worse if this woman becomes Prime Minister.

I can't say I'm jumping for joy at the thought of May being PM, but she's the least worst.

I think Conservative MPs realise what she's like and have made a naive attempt to stop her.

daphnedill Thu 07-Jul-16 11:34:13

It's not to do with Gove becoming PM. It's to do with stopping Leadsom from becoming one of the final two.

I've just checked the rules and new members can't vote unless they joined before 29 June, so at least there won't be a last rush of memberships.

Anniebach Thu 07-Jul-16 11:33:31

If votes are being loaned out then rather pointless Tory party members thinking they are choosing the leader they want

Beammeupscottie Thu 07-Jul-16 11:26:08

Gove is obviously fighting for his political existence! His missus won't like being the wife of a backbencher.

Anniebach Thu 07-Jul-16 09:47:01

The chap heading Gove's campaign has apologised for their request to borrow some of May's votes so Gove could get in the last two , he also said Gove didn't know of this , mmmmmmm

suzied Thu 07-Jul-16 07:52:18

Just listening on radio to a political commentator who says the money's now on Gove to come second after Theresa May, as Andrea Leadsome did so badly at the hustings in front of Tory MPs yesterday. This is in addition to the shortcomings of her CV becoming apparent. She said there will be no economic impact of the Brexit vote, as the pound hit an all time low, she also spent a long time talking about how babies need their foreheads massaged, this might be fine, but is that what we want from a PM? I think many MPs were bemused.

You slightly takes your pick really.
Ideally I wouldnt have wanted any of the candidates, but have one we must.

daphnedill Wed 06-Jul-16 15:31:14

Leadsom's edit history on Wiki for the last two days is interesting. grin

Has May lied about her career history?
