Corbyn and No Confidence

MPs are proposing a vote of No Confidence in Corbyn, but we all know they didn't want him in the first place. Could it be that these MPs kept quiet during the run up to the referendum and are now just taking advantage of a situation they helped create? Is a leader only as strong as the generals that stand behind them?

I'm talking about Jeremy's shadow cabinet, labour supporters and the likes AB ....I presume you're familiar with the phrases.

Pheww Thank goodness for that daphnedill because above everything we are an extremely friendly town smile

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 13:38:51

Thanks Jalima

Jalima Sat 02-Jul-16 13:35:20

It's just an expression anniebach, probably a naval one smile
Don't take it literally

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 13:28:56

Well, I am confused, smile

Jalima Sat 02-Jul-16 13:24:26

although I did hear someone say that the other day grin - the rats one

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 13:21:20

Will try again

Anya, who do you mean by fair weather friends or rats?

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 13:20:14

Oooops, sorry Jalima, gosh I wish the low vision optician would get a move on, again sorry

daphnedill Sat 02-Jul-16 13:14:06

Do you know what gillybob? I don't really care, because I won't be moving there any time soon.

Jalima Sat 02-Jul-16 12:58:56

Jalima, who do you mean by fair weather friends or rats?
I didn't say that anniebach confused

gillybob Sat 02-Jul-16 12:49:15

Do you know what daphnedill I would rather live in my (safe)"bubble" than live in some kind of idealistic cuckoo land . Our town was a ship building And coal mining town until those industries were decimated by various governments ( I could not point the finger at either one) highly skilled manufacturing is still the main employment in the area although on a much smaller scale .

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 12:43:17

Jalima, who do you mean by fair weather friends or rats?

Jalima Sat 02-Jul-16 12:37:17

or perhaps those who have to work with him never wanted him in the first place? hmm
(only those termed 'the grass roots')

Anya Sat 02-Jul-16 12:26:31

Re Corbyn, not sure if it's a case of 'fair weather friends' or 'rats deserting a sinking ship' hmm

Anya Sat 02-Jul-16 12:24:08

Pay no attention to phrases like 'your bubble' Gilly , there are others on GN who disagree with you but could put their point over in a much better way.

Silly DD

daphnedill Sat 02-Jul-16 12:18:26

@gillybob

If you don't have any jobs, it's highly unlikely you'll have an influx of immigrants, so I'm sure your bubble is safe.

gillybob Sat 02-Jul-16 12:13:19

Living in a seaside town close to Newcastle we have a very small immigrant population. In fact hardly any at all . Which is exactly how I would like it to stay. We hardly have enough jobs for the young people who were born and bred here as it is.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 11:52:07

Badenkate, Shropshire was one of the English counties I covered by telephone canvassing and yes immigration kept coming up

Badenkate Sat 02-Jul-16 11:47:46

Immigration was certainly the only reason that was given round here (N Shropshire) when I was canvassing. This is an area which has minimal number of immigrants! But a very high number of Daily Mail readers sad

POGS Sat 02-Jul-16 11:37:27

I think what has been said for so long by some is finally hitting home!

Newcastle historically has a record of being out of step with many of its neighbours. The student population may be responsible for part of the vote. The Universities undoubtedly are. They are a huge employer, many people rely on them and know that a substantial number of the students are from abroad. The biggest building projects in the city are those to provide student accommodation.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 09:58:38

trisher, I have given my reasons for my change of views on Corbyn often since last Friday

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 09:56:18

I agree fully GrandTea , when the referendum campaign started I posted that I was telephone canvassing ,Wales and England, and it was immigration which spoken of by a large majority

trisher Sat 02-Jul-16 09:56:04

Anniebach I wonder why you are blaming Corbyn for the Labour party split and not the MPs who have refused to work with him. It seems to me that you are joining a concerted media campaign to get rid of him. It may be that his appeal to younger and more activist people is precisely what is being complained about by the MPs. Younger people have grown up with the media and media-savvy politicians, and recognise that in not being able to do the quick, spin-doctored response Corbyn is offering something different.

Anniebach Sat 02-Jul-16 09:52:04

It seems despite the efforts of the many labour MP's working to keep the party together it is not Hunt and Benn but MacDonald and Corbyn who who want to split the party , seems they msy succeed. Oh gosh I will be without a home shock
