I thought there was a GN poster who has eluded to having 'the ear' of Pat Glass so I thought we could get to know why.

Actually we are blessed on GN with a small handful of posters who elude to having 'the ear' of our politicians even close friendships so it is reasonable to ask if they know what is going on.

They still set essay titles like that. I've sen some of the stuff my daughter had to do.

The first essay I had to write when I went to university to study economics had the following title, the language is on the archaic side but understandable.

In times of depression if one unemployed man can, by constant endeavour, find employment why cannot all unemployed men find work?

I didn't think she's resigned. I thought she's said that she won't stand for re-election, because she's received death threats. She could be in the job for another four years.

The sheer distance between politicians-not merely the political leaders- and grass roots supporters of both major parties seems to grow more each week. Are they truly in touch with us ordinary people, or is the Westminster "bubble" impenetrable?
Leadership crises threaten both parties, squabbling and backstabbing career implications and financial gain are being put before the electorate they claimed to serve.
I am making no particular accusations against individuals, but with a few exceptions they are letting the country down.

I was watching a spokesman on Daily Politics from London Young Labour who are calling for Corbyn to resign, due to his weak performance.

Unions ? They usually move out of the starting blocks pretty sharpish have any of them declared support for Corbyn yet?

It's a case of who shouts loudest at the moment and the grass roots activists are good at that, difficult to challenge them as compromise is not usually an option .

Two vacancies for qualified and experienced hair stylists, two for waitresses, one for a pharmacist and one for a GP wouldn't be a lot of use to fourteen bricklayers, sixtythree labourers, five supermarket checkout girls and a bank clerk, would they?

I agree, Jalima that increased prosperity will come(should have come?) from investment in an area, probably in the form of incentives from the government or EU to a company to transfer production and create jobs there. We all know of the dismay experienced when a manufacturer pulls out , or cuts back drastically on local jobs. The heart and soul go out of the area. Remember "The Full Monty"?
British Steel in Corby would be another real life instance. Heart breaking. So I don't think we disagree.
However if there are no jobs for the people who live there I fail to follow anybody's thinking that econonomic migrants will be attracted .
Obieone don't nitpick. There may be NO jobs for the applicants. Just because you have once heard of 6 jobs in a Job Centre doesn't prove anything. Skilled jobs need workers with the requisite skills, your applicants may not have those skills or qualifications so it doesn't prove shit anything. If the 6 jobs are for trained and skilled welders, not a lot of use to redundant librarians in their 60's?
Your contention that there are ALWAYS jobs is saying that all the unemployed are lying when they say they want to work . Try that line down the Job Centre. Sounds as if it comes out of Tory Central Office.
And it's not you I am reacting to, just some of the inconsequential nonsenseillogicalities I am reading.

But I think it must be obvious to everyone now, how often you speak about my posts compared to everyone elses', so most people know what you are like by now.

Ah, but Alea isn't this what the EU was supposed to be about - bringing prosperity to the poorer areas of Europe?

For the life of me I cannot fathom why more was not done in areas like the South Wales Valleys, other than cosmetic tinkering, when those two Europhiles, Lord and Lady Kinnock, were ensconced in Europe but still with their links to that poor area.

How can people take jobs in poorer areas where there's no work?
How is this doublespeak obieone?
No work means precisely that.
No jobs, no vacancies, no employment, no, for want of another word, work
People living long-term on benefits because they are trapped in the Catch 22 of can't move to find a job because can't afford to find new accommodation because can't draw benefits without an address and so on.

I'm waiting for David Milliband to come back. They could put him in the Birstall seat and, voila! someone decent to vote for

David Miliband is probably awaiting the publication of the Chilcot Inquiry before he puts his head above the parapet.

He does appear to have more gravitas and personality than Ed, though, although Ed always seems a nice man.
