With a gaping vacuum at the centre and no party speaking to the disaffected working class how much of a threat is UKIP.

I find it worrying listen to the UKIP box on QT they can see the chance for becoming a force to be r'

@dj

I read the Spectator article too. This is becoming very scary.

I know, which is why people like Arron Banks supports Ukip. Hedge fund managers and some other financiers stand to make huge amounts of money from the relaxation of EU rules. After 2008, the US tightened up regulations on them, whereas the EU were quite gentle with the banks (as we know, they even used QE to support them) but tightened up regulations on other forms of finance. The UK is fast becoming a tax haven itself. The EU was trying to stop that happening. However, they need a people's army to vote for them and a propaganda sheet (published by a porn magnate) for marketing.

This is what Ukip want.

One way Ukip is funded...

The Guardian rates Leadsom's chances. She's being bankrolled by Banks and is Ukip supporters' favourite. She's never shown her true colours, so I don't know what they are. IDS is supporting her, which makes me shudder.

"There was further criticism when it was revealed that she had received a series of donations totalling £70,000 from a firm based in London but owned by her Guernsey-based brother-in-law, Peter de Putron, via a holding company in the British Virgin Islands tax haven.[15] Leadsom’s husband Ben is a director of the firm which made the donations, which were used to pay the salaries of staff in Leadsom’s Westminster office after her election as MP; the firm has also made donations of £816,000 to the Conservative party.[16] Because the firm making the donations, Gloucester Research (later becoming GR Software and Research) was based in London the donations conformed to the rule banning political donations from abroad. The Labour MP Tom Watson said: “These very large donations might be within the rules, but it certainly isn’t right that a Treasury minister has been taking money in this way. Most reasonable people will see this as completely unreasonable”."

Yes, she was.

whitewave Sat 02-Jul-16 10:42:59

Wasn't she one of those beloved bankers?

Interesting stuff on here about Andrea Leadsom. She is likely to be Theresa May's chancellor. She has links to tax havens.

whitewave Sat 02-Jul-16 10:33:02

Not sure Leadsom is a runner but honestly nothing would surprise me now.

Not only are we going to have Ukip in the North East, but we are not going to have any GPs either.
I think I may have to move.

@ Tegan

I have a theory (or two) but nothing to back it up. hmm He needs watching, whatever his agenda is.

Iam64 Sat 02-Jul-16 09:25:38

World domination ?

Tegan Sat 02-Jul-16 09:23:14

It terrifies me that pumping vast amounts of money into campaigns can influence how many people vote. What is Bank's agenda?

daphnedill Fri 01-Jul-16 22:49:58

@Iam64

That seems to be the plan, which is why it's so important Labour gets its act together.

daphnedill Fri 01-Jul-16 22:44:46

@JessM

No, they haven't, but they wouldn't if they'd been sold the line that the European Parliament is full of remote 'elites'. They might take a bit more notice when Ukip fails to deliver whatever they've promised the Welsh.

There's an interesting conversation on Guido at the moment. They really have got the knives out for Carswell, who objected to the racism in Farage's poster. It would appear that Carswell is about to be expelled and they want to bring back the racist Godfrey Bloom.

Meanwhile, they support Andrea Leadsom as PM (I wonder how many £25 memberships they can afford) and have decided to delay attacking the Conservatives until a new leader is elected. Thank goodness the parliamentary Conservative party have the final choice.

Arron Banks is going to bankroll Leadsom's campaign and has announced his intention to start a new party without Farage. Hmmmm...

What next for Farrage, when does his EU salary end, soon I hope. Me big fear is he'll stand in one of the northern towns, devastated by unemployment and no lingering thrall to the Labour Party.

JessM Fri 01-Jul-16 21:52:36

hmm They haven't been judging their performance in the European Parliament. sad

daphnedill Fri 01-Jul-16 21:26:53

It will be interesting to see whether Ukip is still so popular in Wales after a term. By the next election, people will be able to judge their performance.

JessM Fri 01-Jul-16 21:06:49

Nathan Glll, leader of UKIP in Wales, has announced that he will continue as an MEP despite being elected as an Assembly Member in May.
So he's going to carry on claiming 1/3 of his EU salary (max he's allowed - approx £24k a year) on top of his £65k from the Assembly.. The £24 is similar to the average income in Wales. No shame whatsoever.

daphnedill Fri 01-Jul-16 19:10:31

I know and it's worrying. There was a lot of tactical voting in Thanet to keep Farage out. The Conservative who won was on the right of the Conservative Party.

JessM Fri 01-Jul-16 19:06:30

Yup indeed. Scary, with lots of money to throw around.
When Farage stood in the general election in Thanet West the Tory party threw a massive amount of resources at it. This is one of the constituencies in which alleged Tory over-spending is being investigated by the police. Could happen that there is a by-election (eventually...) in which Farage might stand again. He lost by a narrow margin.

daphnedill Fri 01-Jul-16 19:06:30

@Riverwalk That's what worries me. What's their agenda now? We're out of Europe, so where do we go now? I fear that human rights will be next on the hit list and we're heading for more free market ie less social protection. The EU protected the UK from Americanisation of healthcare and workers' rights. I truly hope that the people who voted Leave knew what they were doing.
