.... And she wants to bring back fox hunting.
This weather is getting me down. Is it May or March?
I have to say that, despite her denials, I am disgusted that Andrea Leadsom is using her fecundity as a means to improving her chances of becoming Prime Minister. After what Britain has just gone through with the deceitful and destructive Brexit campaign, can it be true that a potential Party leader begins her campaign by making unfair and unkind comparisons in order to gain ground?
She now claims that her comments have been taken out of context - how can anyone refer to that specific difference between yourself and another in any other context? I despair.
.... And she wants to bring back fox hunting.
Black ops? She denied saying the babygate stuff, then heard the transcript, now it's some journalist entrapment! She said this garbage, now she's apologised for it, now IDS/IBS claims its all an elite conspiracy . Who are the elite? I would think AL and IDS come into that category.
Apparently, when the tapes were released and we could all hear exactly what she had said (and lied about saying) and more importantly how she had said it, she apologised to Theresa May by text- a poor substitute for a face to face apology. What an ill-mannered woman.
Black ops?
The accusation sounds more like IDS trying to get back at Osborne (the elite) for his own resignation and crocodile tears. There had been reports about conflict between the two before IDS's resignation, because Osborne was reluctant to let him spend more money developing Universal Credit and the Work Programme.
I can't quite believe I'm defending Osborne and May, although I did warn friends who wanted to get rid of them to be careful what they wished for. Maybe it's all an elaborate plot to make Cameron's cabinet seem cuddly.
People can and will judge May on her record on immigration and the police, etc, but at least we know what that record is. With Leadsom, she's untested in a cabinet role and she revises her history as she goes along.
I've read that Leadson is a 'fresh face'. If all that's needed is a fresh face, I'm up for it. Is it too late to apply?
PS. I have no experience in politics, but I have two children!
Yeh, well she's going to stand down now so all clear for Theresa!
She has just said she is going to quit the leadership bid because the abuse is too great.
Just read that too. So where are the people claiming that she talks about abuse to gain sympathy?
She deserved the abuse, unlike others who have been abused for Jewish, female or holding different views. Or immigrants who have been told to go home.
Remember those who claimed Remain were gaining votes when Jo Cox was murdered?
So all the main Brexiters have now bottled-out!
They all wanted to leave but non is willing to do the dirty deed.
Theresa May will make the best leader. Leadsom was far too inexperienced. Not sure how it works for a new leader to automatically become PM
Relieved to hear she has withdrawn her candidacy. i was truly concerned that she would get elected as nothing would surprise me after the disaster referendum vote. Those people who voted to leave the EU based on what this cabal had promised must feel terribly let down, what an utter bloody shambles. The Brexit cabal paraded around the country, making all kinds of unfounded and unsubstantiated claims and promises and now they have all left us to get on with it. So much for 'Taking back control'. They were a bunch of fantasists and liars and should be ashamed of themselves. I dont believe for one minute all the 'doing it for the country' fakery from Loathsome, I think it is more likely that there were going to be more revelations about her career and possible her biL with his £800,000 donation to the party. Now the big worry is that these ghastly people get funded by Aaron Banks the UKIP bankroller
This is good news. Let's hope Theresa May does not feel any obligation to give Andrea Leadsom a job. She is clearly unfit for any public office.
It will be interesting to see who she appoints to her cabinet.
Her speech yesterday was extraordinarily 'social democratic' with its promises of crackdowns on tax evasion and corporate takeovers and ensuring worker participation in boardrooms. She also promised QE for infrastructure, which is part of 'Corbynonomics'. If she delivers on those and appoints somebody less Maciavellian to the DWP, she could win back centrist votes.
So will Arron Banks do what he said on Marr yesterday and form a 'new' Ukip? May will probably alienate right-wingers in the Conservative Party, so there might be a place for a more right-wing party, but will alienated Labour Party voters support it?
Well, it certainly hasn't been boring over the last couple of weeks!! It will certainly deserve a chapter in the hitory books of the future. Who knows what will happen?
@varian
I hope she doesn't. I hope she doesn't give IDS or Owen Paterson a job either, because i think they would have been pulling Leadsom's strings.
Yes dd also what will the right wing do now? Initially they will look for cabinet places arguing Brexit but will be interested in how strong May is. Keeping you enemies close hasn't worked in the past - look at the fiasco we've recently had to endure.
Agree with your concerns GillT57 (Mon 11-Jul-16 12:45:28) so was very glad to hear she had withdrawn. I also think we need someone being seen to be running the country although I am sure it is being. I am glad she ran inasmuch as she knocked out Gove - so I am not unhappy with the result.
daphnedill (Mon 11-Jul-16 12:56:18) I heard TM this morning but am not aware whether it was a repeat of yesterday's or not but, like you, I was amazed at the position she appeared to be coming from. Very interesting times!
Cameron might be out of No10 before you can say knife.
May's slogan was "A country that works for everyone - not just the privileged few"
We'll see!
I think he lives in Number 11, because it's bigger.
I'm glad Theresa May will be PM. I voted Brexit but I'm disgusted with the way Boris, Gove and now Leadsom have bottled out despite what they started.
I, for one, didn't believe any of the tosh they spouted pre-referendum but I'm sure a lot of people did and they might feel let down but I suspect a lot of them won't really care.
Is it democratic that May walks into the job without a vote amongst members?
Possibly not, but who would they choose? Gove has said he doesn't want to be considered again. Johnson withdrew. Stephen Crabb is hiding somewhere after revelations about some some saucy texts. So that leaves Fox, who only received a handful of votes.
I wonder if any of the Labour Party will cross the house, if May really does come up with a social democrat/liberal agenda.
So glad she's withdrawn.
They are saying on BBC news right now that Theresa could be in Downing St within 24 hrs.
I'm dreading her giving Grayling a job, which I'm sure she will. Gove didn't really get enough credit for undoing some of the changes Grayling made as Justice Secretary.
daphnedill (Mon 11-Jul-16 13:27:40)
It all rather out-fictions fiction doesn't it
I wonder?
merlotgran (Mon 11-Jul-16 13:20:31)
Which group spouting which 'tosh' *merlot'? - just for my clarity
