My OH is a Labour supporter to the core and for the first time ever will be going to the next Local Labour Party meeting in the hope that he can have a say.
Hopefully he will as he's very good in these situations being a retired union official.

just to clarify rosesarered, I think its clear from my posts that I don't support Jeremy Corbyn. I'm a life long labour voter and I'm a party member. I haven't cancelled my membership because I want to use my vote against jeremy. I'll vote for Owen Smith because if I vote Jeremy with a view to splitting the party, I'd never forgive myself.
I am also remaining a member so I can support the MP who has represented my constituency well for over 20 years. He's one of the 170 so there are moved from some to de select him. I'm furious about this. He voted against the Iraq war, is an excellent constituency MP, is seen regularly around the area, stood with us to defend our local library, hospital etc. His background is what I see as ordinary Labour, that is he was born in a mill town to parents/grandparents who worked the mills, was part of the generation that either did an apprenticeship (he did) or went to university. He is well known locally. Why should he face desolation because he voted no confidence?
I don't want to rant on but given roses comments, I wanted to clarify my own views on JC as leader.

I would say, really only from gransnet, that about 1/3 of Labour party members are now against Corbyn?

And going on that people on here tend to be more left wing generally than the population as a whole, you could say that 35-40% of current Labour members would not vote for Corbyn?

I have to offer another apology too, I defended him against several here on the anti semtetic accusations, I didn't know untill today he was a supporter of Paul Eisen , even donated money to his cause. So I am sorry, I didn't know and thought he held the same views on Israel and Palestine as I do, I had no idea he supported that vile man .

Anniebach Everyone knew that Corbyn was lying through his teeth when he said he voted to remain. I think he should lay off the lying, he's not very good at it.
Maybe that's why 'the chosen few' keep him away from any situation where he might be tripped up.

Of course he will win. All the "new saboteur members" will vote for him as they know with him as leader an election win is impossible. We are long term members of the party, but will quit if he wins. Hope I have to rue these words!

I believe Corbyn will win , he has so much support mostly denied by the Murdock media and the 172 MPs who want him out . I think he could easily win a general election. What I don`t understand is why the P LP keeps trotting out the same party lines and not actually saying which of his policies they disagree with. Instead they say they have lost confidence untrue , or that he is unpopular with the electorate (untrue) or he stayed silent during the travesty which was Brexit also untrue . What they don`t say is that from the very beginning they made it clear they would not support him . A real kick in the face for the many, many people who voted for him . Democracy seems to be dead !

I just watched Trump and his admirers , little difference to what is happening here, the Americans are divided ,some detest trump, some fear him and some think he is their saviour and can do no wrong. Ditto here with Corbyn .

There has never been bullying in the party, even though a telly fictional drama is believed to be fact. Posters who are always so caring remain silent when one Corbynite poster describes a MP who explained why she had left the shadow cabinet - she was receiving treatment for cancer - as a moaner and calls people who are speaking out in receiving foul threats as sensitive . I find it distressing and to say it happened under previous leaders would not be true

So far ( on this forum) only annieb and Tegan have said they are unhappy about what is happening within the Labour Party and would like another Leader ( I think that is what you meant Tegan) Djen you seem happy still with Corbyn, as do one or two others presumably.You would need to be a die hard Socialist ( as opposed to a traditional Labour voter) to be happy with things that 'Team Corbyn' put out for their vision of our political future.If he wins the vote ( and he might do) Labour can either split away, or stay fuming until Corbyn loses the next GE.What a prospect!

Bullying?-If it's the hackneyed meeting where the MP burst into tears he explained that as he wasn't chairing the meeting he felt it wasn't his place to interfere.
What amuses me about all the MPs carping is that, if you have ever watched "The Thick of It", which was said to accurately represent the ethos of Blair's government, the language and the bullying are incredible-but no-one moaned about it. Now it seems Labour MPs are sensitive souls easily upset by a bit of bad language.
