Corbyn is not threatening anyone. The rules say that MPs who do not follow labour party members instructions can be deselected. It's up to the members, not Corbyn.

I keep changing my views on him, I voted for him because I thought he held the same views on the party. Then I got so angry when I watched him over quite a period of time, thought he was weak and being manipulated. Now I find him rather frightening, who in a normal state of mind ask colleagues to work with him and offered the hand of friendship then follow it with the threat of reselection. The same man asks for loyalty yet voted against his party line over 500 times

I'm watching Jeremy being interviewed on channel 4. He's easily irritated. He's being asked about anti semitism and the weeping female MP, he did not answer the question. He denied claims from the female Labour NEC member of intimidation at the meeting, was he accusing her of lying?

I didn't intend to post again today as I am getting so incensed at the way membership appears to be being boosted and need to take several deep breaths but I don't like ignoring a genuine question. Google in this - crowdfunding of Labour leadership - and several come up. I, too, have not been approached and I have had nothing through on this either from the local/national party or Saving Labour. I do know Momentum, according to the above googling, did set up one and I assume distributed it. How, and to whom, I do not know. I never get anything from them so I don't think they have access to the membership details. At least one I looked at did point out your vote was your own even if funded but I think they would have to do that anyway for legality. Indeed, I do know that Labour is very strict about who gets access. Even an MP's Office has to get special permission for their constituency.
Please note I am genuinely pleased that young people especially are getting involved in politics. I have long berated them for not doing so but I want a Labour Party full of genuine people who participate in a lawful, democratic and informed way. I am not even bothered if they don't know all the nuances as people have to learn but they do at least have to have had some engagement in advance and not just accept it as the 'in' thing of the moment.
Off now to plant some items in my minuscule courtyard.

Just so Daphne, and it never will untill there is a strong leader who puts the party before himself. The hypocrisy of reeling off the principles of the Labour Party when he knows he will never be able to bring them in and people seem to think these are his ambitions and his alone

That still leaves an enormous number of people who have applied over the last two days - more than the total number of members of the Conservative party - so I think it's only reasonable to believe that an enormous number of those are genuine.

I didn't realise that was happening, Devorgilla. It totally undermines democracy. In theory, somebody with money to spare could find people who don't care much about politics and 'harvest' their details. I read somewhere rumours that Ukip was doing the same, but I dismissed it as a conspiracy theory. I'm not so sure now. It really does seem like 'one dollar, one vote'!

Personally, I despair. The country needs an effective opposition, preferably a government-in-waiting and it just doesn't have one.

Well, night owl, when you read reports of crowdfunding to pay the subs of people to join up to vote you do have to wonder who the hell is getting involved. This method is a clear breach of NEC rules and in my view is anti-democratic. At least two of these crowdfunding efforts have been shut down and the money will be refunded to the organiser of the site and via them to the original donors. Those whose subs have been paid in this way will be removed from the voting register for the leadership as you are supposed to have paid your own because you believe in the principles of the Party. Do they vet the people whose sub the fund pays to see if they are bona fide Labour supporters? As to whether the many newbies know anything about the Labour Party, I will await to be astounded by their brilliance at my next meeting. But, hey, the end justifies the means. What has democracy and the rule of law got to do with anything?
