How can appliances be more efficient if they take longer to use?!! Another batty edict from the EU! Let's hope we can bin it!!,

Animal welfare is grim in the U.S., and pretty disgraceful in some continental countries, that is why I will never buy meat except from our local free range butcher, same with eggs. I'd rather eat less meat and know that it has been properly and humanely raised and slaughtered, sooner than buy more cheaply and know that it probably hasn't. I think the EU needs us as much as we need them, maybe more so, and that Mrs May can and will use this to our advantage, if they choose to play hard ball.

Trouble is we take so much for granted and it is only when you compare with other countries like the US that you see what we have and they don't e.g. better regulations about food safety and animal welfare.

I don't understand why people would still want to continue using light bulbs which are less efficient and more expensive in the long term.
LED lights are fine and cost-efficient in the long-term but expensive to replace all throughout the house.
However, some energy-saving light bulbs flicker slightly and can cause a headache.

I would need to be convinced that low-wattage electrical appliances are as efficient as higher wattage appliances, eg vacuum cleaners which may take two or three times as long to clean, washing machines that take up to 3 hours to complete a cycle (a friend told me today that she questioned that when buying a new washing machine but was told it was 'more efficient' - not of her time it isn't!).

Nobody shouted loud enough about the wonderful things that the EU did. Even here, in one of the counties that has benefitted most from EU regional funding, the majority voted to leave.

No reason at all roses! dd, It's a pity then that D.C. didn't shout all these wonderful things that he gained for the UK from the EU from the rooftops during the campaign instead of resorting to trying to frighten us all into remaining, and sounding more and more desperate by the minute!! I don't think he gained anything substantial else we would surely have heard about it!! As you say roses, let's see what Mrs May and her team announce and take it from there.

Not a figure of fun at all, many countries have a good number of Euro sceptics and these people will admire us for leaving and wish that they could too.It may well happen that other countries DO leave the EU in the next few years anyway.
I know this is the silly season when not much happens politically, but as this thread is ostensibly about Theresa May, perhaps we should wait until September until she actually announces something? As is is, it's become a vehicle yet again for Remainers to have a good old moan.Also, why on earth should any poster comply with the demands to 'explain themselves' as to Brexit and anything to do with it! Sorry, but that sounds like a toddler being told not to poke his fingers in the fire. The UK government did have a say, just like any other government of every government in the EU. If we had really objected we could have opted out completely.

The UK was never a cry in the wilderness. We were (and still are) one of the 'big players' with more votes than almost any other country.

Sorry you took Farage seriously. I'm afraid I never could. The EU wasn't laughing at the UK - it was laughing at Farage and I can't say I blame it.

Cameron actually won some valuable concessions. Admittedly, he didn't achieve what Thatcher did, but it's a shame the media under-reported what he achieved, which would have silenced the critics of welfare payments to EU citizens.

I'm sure people do want to use more efficient light bulbs dd, but they resent being ordered to by Europe. We (our own government) can work it out for ourselves, we don't have to be told by someone else. I think our voice in the EU was like a cry in the wilderness, and was becoming more and more forlorn almost to the point of causing derision which, let's face it David Cameron was subjected to on his failed mission back in Feb. I don't like this nation being no more than a figure of fun, and to coin a phrase, ' they're not laughing now' which has to be a good thing, and brought the whole outfit up with a jolt! Hopefully a better future lies ahead as a result of this jolt.

I must admit that I'm a bit baffled why you should be concerned about a better, fairer and more accountable EU, if the UK isn't a member. As the UK is one of the 'big players' (along with France and Germany), I would have thought it would be have been better to stay and fight for improvements, especially if you're concerned about the weaker nations.

There really is so much to negotiate and Theresa May has an extremely difficult job - as her successors will have for at least the next decade.

I have a vision of Johnson, Fox and Davis sitting around in 30 years with grey hair and lots of wrinkles, still sharing their mansion and wondering how to leave.

Cameron sorted out quite a few optouts for us, but they are no longer valid.

What will happen when we no longer have the financial passport, so that banks move to the EU? Who will be feathering their nests then, other than Cameron and his cronies, who have offshore accounts and do not pay their taxes properly?

Nobody!!! Who says we shall have a Norwegian model?! Who knows what will be agreed at the end of the day? I voted to leave and haven't regretted it for even one moment,as I am confident that eventually a better, fairer and accountable EU will emerge. One that doesn't bully and threaten other weaker members and leave them to cope virtually single handedly with other disasters. One that doesn't just wring its hands while it's members feather their nests. What started with high ideals is just another bloated, jobs for the boys organisation, and as it stands we're well out of it.

Well, if we do Brexit and if we do negotiate a trade deal with the EU at least all those folks who think the EU imposes unwelcome regulations on us will actually have factual grounds for thinking it.

Unlike now when they are wrong in their belief.

Do you not realise, obieone, that if we want to continue to trade with the EU (the 'Norwegian option') we will still have to pay a contribution to the EU, and observe their regulations & standards in regard to whatever we are trading and we won't have any say at all about the said regulations and standards. We would be pretty silly not to want to trade with the EU as it is one of the largest markets in the world (and we're already trading with it, albeit under terms that ensure that we get a say in framing standards & regulations)

That's as maybe dj but the free movement of people is what we first signed up for and for me it would have to stay. Of course we all move on over the years, we have with the commonwealth countries, but they all maintain their own independence from each other including/particularly us (!) on a day to day basis. We can all trade and interact with each other without dictating what light bulbs we apparently all HAVE to use! and other intrusive dictats, things that lots of people find irritating and frustrating.

So Nigglynellie wants to stay in the single market and keep the free movement of people. At least that's clear. Of course we will have to keep paying in to the EU (like Norway) to stay in the single market.
At least someone who (I assume) voted leave knows what they want. Which is more than May's government do at the moment.

Trouble with ditching all the rules and regs idea though is that to stay in the single market we'll have to stick by nearly all of the rules and regs, or the big boys and girls won't play with us. Or let us have a say in any rule changes. For example if we want to carry on exporting meat to the EU we'll have to follow all the rules that affect farming and livestock.
And that highlights the Brexiteers problem - everyone has their own idea about what Brexit means - but there are so many different versions that whatever the politicians decide, they are going to upset a lot of people who voted Leave,

The free movement of people was one of the reasons people voted to leave - the fact that 330,000 migrants came to the UK in the last year. That figure frightened many people, despite the fact that many of them were students. The papers that wanted to scare us just gave the overall figure, omitting to say that 90,000 of those were Chinese students, who will not stay here.

I think I made that clear in my second post! If you had asked me to vote on the arrangements we understood we had under the Common Market, circa 1975, I would say a resounding yes as I did at the time. It's what its morphed into since and may do in the future that I resoundingly rejected. So yes, I want to trade under our original arrangement and accept the free movement of people as we did 40 years ago, but closer integration? No thank you.

I'm sure most of them will not read it, but it's just a QA, like you are suggesting, Gracesgran, but with someone else putting the answers in, so they can argue.

Jen it is not just the lack of a single practical idea, they are offering no ideas not even impractical ones!

So let's ask to see if we can understand one thing at a time.

Each person who voted to leave the EU, do you want the UK to trade with the EU once we have left?

Just a yes or no please so we can see a percentage who do and a percentage who don't.

If we go by simple step by step perhaps we can get a defined (or several) 'out'.

And no, I am not going to go into word games about that either.
