Another awful day for France.

You cannot deal with such evil through diplomacy. IS want to annihilate all who do not want to live by Sharia Law. They have twisted the Koran to their own evil ends. There is no reasoning, there is nothing they want. Even if we all said tomorrow 'OK we'll all be like you' we can't. Because we are already tainted if alcohol has touched our lips, or we've had sex outside of marriage, or divorced, lived in 'sin'. Eaten forbidden foods. So we'd just be beheaded anyway. You can't turn the other cheek, you can't reason. The only way is to get rid of them. As I said in my post earlier, by cutting off their finances, then blowing their training camps to ....... and then working very hard, all nations, to stop the indoctrination of the young, or vulnerable. I have 2 granddaughters. When I saw that little girl's flip flop on tv this morning I cried. I agree, with this, you can't turn the other cheek and I hate them too.

Cannot imagine what the poor people of France are going through and for this kind of thing to happen on a lovely Summer night when people are out to have a good time and celebrate the end of a special day in their history. The lorry driver was shot, as most of these terrorists seem to be, such a shame we can't capture them and put them through hell. Barbaric, dosn't make things right I know, but death is too good for them.

My son and his family live in France too and I am so relieved that they were nowhere Nice They are on holiday and could well have been there but chose the west coast instead !

What has the man achieved, and to what purpose? I am mystified that a human being could have planned such attack and been " successful"! Horror unleashed and no gains surely on his part.

I live in France and really feel it is difficult for the security forces to be able to do much about lone wolves who are determined to do their utmost to cause havoc and terror ....as yet (3.28 here) I have not heard any terrorist group claiming responsibility. I have neighbours whose 'children' (grown up s !) are both officers in the Gendarmerie ...I am not sure where they are this summer ....most of the Gendarme officers who volunteer are sent to seaside posts in the summer .....so I hope they and all tourists will stay safe !

I have to say I await with baited breath what the new UK Foreign Minister is going to say ....I sincerely hope he does not see it as a time for saying something idiotic like he usually does.

I particularly feel for the children who may have been left orphaned and injured by this incident I pray there parents or relatives, guardians, etc may be found ..

Absolutely heartbreaking news from Nice.

We have been going to Nice every year for the last fourteen years and were there just a couple of months ago. My son expressed concern about us going, but we brushed it away. So awful to witness the TV footage. We know the area so well, it was always such a happy atmosphere on the Promenade. Things will never be the same.

A crime against mankind. Just when will this insanity - because that's what it is - ever end?

I posted elsewhere and have just found this thread. It's all been said really. I heard the news late last night, at which point 60 were dead. What's so poignant is thst these people were celebrating a national day, all happy and in good spirits, all hyped up, and suddenly in a few moments the bottom has fallen out of their world, and not just theirs, but the many family members, friends, schoolfriends , neighbours and so on. And the sadness has reached the rest of the world. I woke to see a higher death toll today and immediately emailed my daughter who, like someone else has said of her daughter, is flying home with husband and small children from Toulouse tomorrow. I'm sure they'll be fine. Security has been reinstated to high alert. my mind keeps coming back to this dreadful tragedy. It won't stop me travelling into London and life must just go on. RIP to all those poor people, some of whom Muslims I gather, joining in the festivities. Condolences to all their families and friends.

This is a racist/hate attack. I'm asking myself would any of our home-grown racists be evil enough to carry out an attack like this?
Recently we had an Eid celebration near us, 80,000 Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadan. I can't help feeling that even out most thuggish wouldn't attack families in this way.

The promenade was closed for the festivities but delivery vehicles were being allowed through.
It is now being reported that police questioned the driver,who said that he was delivering ice cream.
It appears that he was allowed through without the police checking the interior of the van.
If this is confirmed as true,it is incredible after the attacks in 2015 and the country on high alert.

My heart aches for parents who have lost their children,and all who have lost a loved one.I hope that those still searching find their answer soon.

Imagine waking up in the morning and thinking; 'Right, today I am going to drive a huge truck into innocent families enjoying a night of celebration, killing as many as possible, all in the name of my religion'!

The more soft we are the more terror they bring. As and when they wish they have the the upper hand with the element of surprise. The time has come for the tables to turn.
