Beginning to distrust Jeremy Corbyn

Our local CLP has just voted by a considerable majority, to support JC in the leadership election.
I realise I may be out of step, may be wrong but I don't see him as a good leader, or as a future prime minister. I don't trust him and I don't want to go back to the 80's. Jalima makes the point that in her view JC isn't what the modern Labour part needs. Sorry you feel this is just a thread for people who agree night owl, I don't see it like that but I have felt relief that I'm not alone in feeling uneasy about Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader.

I'll continue as a party member till we see the outcome of the leadership vote, I am as sure as I can be the Jeremy will win that fairly easily. What happens next will be interesting. I'll be very sad if the threats of desolation of good MP's who have worked hard for their constituencies go ahead. It doesn't feel right. Neither does accusing those who don't support JC of being "Blairight back stabbers. What a mess.

As a left-leaning LibDem I was a reluctant supporter of the coalition but I am an enthusiastic supporter of Tim Farron.

I do not believe that most British people are extremists who divide into right wing Tories or Corbynites. This is only a construct of the media which loves confrontation and hates the very notion of co-operation.

The notion that Liberals are too nice to be politicians shows how cynical we have all become. It is time we got rid of FPTP and changed to PR when politicians would have to grow up amd learn to co-operate

Of course I accept opposing views will be challenged Annie, and have enormous respect for your views based on the work you have done for the Labour Party over many years. I just find it sad and quite disturbing that this thread (very valid OP) has descended into very personal attacks on Jeremy Corbyn rather than criticism of his politics. Most of the criticism, as others have pointed out, is from people who openly admit they would never vote labour anyway.

I just feel that life has moved on, the country has moved on, there are new and urgent issues to address but JC and his ilk are like dinosaurs if they wish to go back to the old Labour party ideals. Do not abandon them entirely, but move with the times.

Because they need to move with the times if they want to prove themselves to the electorate at large and get elected. Young, idealistic people may think he is wonderful, people who look back with nostalgia at what the Labour Party used to represent may think he is the leader they want, but he is not what the modern Labour Party needs in a modern Britain, even as an effective Leader of the Opposition.

Why did he not appoint her in January? He appoints her after she carried out the anti Semitic enquiry , the results of the enquiry I accepted, now I don't know because he rewarded her

I agree with you Celia but I have come to the conclusion there is no point posting on this thread. It's a bit like the 'cut out of their lives thread', only exists for like minded people and no opposing views are welcome

I agree with those who feel that Jeremy Corbyn's appointing a new peer is a mistake, since he is, like me, against the House of Lords in principle, but if any new peers are to be appointed I would support Shami Chakrabati. She has done tremendous work over the past twenty years helping to protect human rights.

I believe Jeremy Corbyn to be a very decent and honest man who wants to lead the ordinary people of this country into a better future and I will certainly support him in that. (and I am not a brainwashed member of a cult!)

My real beef with the Labour Party is the number of bland, hypocritical, self-serving Blairite, career-politicians it contains. I suspect not one of them is an altruist. The term 'champagne socialist' is over used but many of us appreciate there are left-wing politicians who fit the bill.

Corbyn came along as an antidote to that, and rightly so. For Labour a few months ago, he was the best thing since sliced bread, and was taking the Blairites back to their roots. Even now, he has pulling power if we look at the number of people who've become card-carrying members of the party recently.

It's quite weird that Labour now has a truly socialist figure at the helm, but the party is rejecting him.

I think more than anything JC has highlighted the rot within the party. I agree he isn't the right man to lead the party, but like many Labour voters, I struggle to suggest an alternative. Smith is standing against him and - well, hands up all those who hadn't heard of him until he replaced the little known Angela Eagle? Smith isn't the answer and today's polls suggest he doesn't stand a chance against Corbyn.

If Corbyn and the hard left isn't electable, and people reject the unctuous Smith, doesn't it suggest that the Labour party has to break and reform?

I agree that JC is hanging on stubbornly, but he too must be aware that the alternative to him isn't really what the party is all about.

Dare I suggest the young, the student population and perhaps the politically naive, those wanting a bit of a revolution, are keeping Corbyn where he is? With that sort of massive support he can change the party, but it won't be one that a different demographic will want.

How anyone can say "I've always voted Labour" is beyond me, because this schism in the party demonstrates there are so many different left wing factions within Labour, including the hypocritical champagne socialists. Who exactly does Labour represent now if many of those elected to serve are looking after their careers rather than the people who elected them? I suppose exactly the same accusation could be levelled at JC.

AB, you made me laugh so much when I read your post. Are we really that trite a Party now? What are they planning to sing? Do they plan to sing all the way through to drown out Owen? Sorry - imagination running riot here.

You beat me to it daphnedill. They went for the Left winger last time. Same party, same people voting I assume. Not a lot changes in a year membership wise, even with the new intake. It is a very diverse area. I lived there for many years which is why I still have contacts there and follow H&WG on Twitter etc.

I hope the 'Jewish vote' doesn't become an issue, because I think the country is already divided enough into factions. I also think that the Labour anti-semiticism issue was blown out of proportion.

It's a diverse and generally wealthy constituency, a Labour gain from the LibDems in the last election, so possibly not surprising that it's gone for the more centrist/right wing candidate. I would imagine it's the kind of constituency which more working class Labour supporters see as 'elite'.
