Traingate

The silliest thing about the Corbyn "Traingate" fiasco is that before the railways were privatised, I often had to sit on the floor toing and froing between Preston and Edinburgh. Sometimes there was no buffet car. And the toilets were often disgusting.

I guess Corbyn didn't travel by train much back then hmm

However, the trains I travelled on usually had more space for luggage than current Virgin trains.

People don't leave coats etc on booked seats to go to the foodbar or toilet when trains are pulling into or pulling out of stations. I travel by rail a great deal. You avoid going at that time just because that is when people are leaving the train and others getting on and you stand the chance of coming back to find you have to oust someone from your seat.

I'm afraid this was a case of all aboard the Hogwash Express.

This particular line was taken back into public ownership in 2009 and run by Directly Operated Railways, a company owned but the Department for Transport and only re-privatised in 2015. It's not actually a service that's notoriously overcrowded. Jeremy could have found a far better example to make his point.

No - my bet is that Corbyn will win with a bigger majority. There is nothing attractive about Smith.

What nobody seems to be getting is that people are looking for an alternative to the rubbish politicians we have been landed with for so long, whose policies are ensuring greater inequality, greater unfairness, and the sense that the poorer members are simply being ignored.

That is what is attracting so much of the working class vote to Trump - likewise in so many countries in Europe.

Politicians are not listening. Their rhetoric is beginning to recognise this fact, but so far their actions do not reflect the truth.

Pollengran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:59:54

You are nitpicking Anniebach. Your hatred of Corbyn worries me if you describe yourself as a Labour supporter. Why do you relish all the MSM propaganda against him?

As I said, if he has let his supporters down over this, and it is proven beyond doubt then I will walk away.

I am not part of Momentum, this is a made up word for people who want to see long overdue changes in the Labour Party.

obieone Wed 24-Aug-16 10:59:04

Does this all mean that Owen Smith might win now?

Tegan Wed 24-Aug-16 10:58:26

Probably because there's something humourless about Corbyn. People say that he was funny on The Last Leg but he made that awful comment about only being @ 7% in favour of Remain, something I can't forgive him for.

LumpySpacedPrincess Wed 24-Aug-16 10:55:20

I don't laugh at Johnson, I'm terrified of him. He describes black people as "pickaninnies" with "water melon smiles" then he mocks Obama's Kenyan heritage, plus he was fired from previous jobs for lying. We shouldn't laugh at Johnson, we should be keeping him from power and holding him to account. But no, lets laugh at his silly hair, call him Boris and make him foreign secretary.

On the local radio this morning there was an hour about the trains.
One man said that he and 29 of his friends booked tickets on a Saturday morning to go from Newcastle to Leeds. 6 had seats reserved in coach E, the rest in coach F.
When the train came in, there was no coach F.

It's a long time since I travelled from King's Cross to anywhere, but I did notice that all the CCTV footage was supposed to be taken from the same camera. It was from the food bar into the next carriage.
Many people booking seats in that carriage would have left coats and bags on seats and gone into the foodbar, wouldn't they? Isn't that what Corbyn said?

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 10:49:39

Yes Pollegrsn, you lied when you said I had started pro Blair threads , I have never done so

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 10:47:25

Well said Elegran , why can we laugh at Boris but not Corbyn , get angry with Cameron but not Corbyn,

Gracesgran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:44:57

Was anyone thinking of throwing people who ridicule politicians in jail and leaving them to rot Elegran? There seems to be a distinct lack of sense of proportion coming from some posters. I probably made one of the most critical comments about the Corbyn bashers who do not actually want to discuss anything and throw comments such as "believer of lies" (obviously no one who doesn't attack Corybn can have a view of their own) at anyone who doesn't absolutely agree with them and that was to say it was 'boring'; that seems a long way from throwing someone in jail!

Pollengran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:44:40

I am lying Anniebach?

I reserve judgement on the CCTV footage, and as I said at the beginning of this thread, I will change my opinion of Corbyn IF it is true. I will need more proof than that dished out by the BBC though.

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:44:04

Ps I have heard the term 'ram jam buttie' which may have been a term used in the Forces, DH told me how he had to sleep on the overhead luggage rack about 50+ yearsago because the overnight sleeper was so full (people asleep on the floor etc).

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 10:43:00

No Gracesgrsn, I am not blinkered , what difference between me disagreeing and other posters disagreeing? Are they too blinkered

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:41:09

Gracesgran a balanced thread about how the trains are (and were) run might be a good idea, however this is not the thread! smile

whitewave Wed 24-Aug-16 10:41:08

I am thinking of leaving the Labour Party as their behaviour is beyond ridiculous, on both sides. The Tories behaviour has also been beyond ridiculous this year.

Looking at our political party members is is so depressing as few appear to have a balanced integrity and a level of honesty I expect from those in parliament.

I feel very gloomy.

obieone Wed 24-Aug-16 10:40:38

JC has now reached the point of being a person of national ridicule in my opinion.

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:38:56

Oh for goodness sake, we wouldn't have Private Eye, Spitting Image, political cartoons etc etc without politicians!

Elegran is right.

Off to the Tower with anyone on here who dares laugh at a politician.

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:35:41

I know anniebach smile

Corbyn or Blair, Corbyn or Blair, reminds me of that advert, 'which do you like best, Daddy or chips, Daddy or chips' ? CHIPS!

Elegran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:33:45

Ridiculing politicians is a national pastime, one indulged in by some of the most politically active posters on this forum. Thank God for the freedom to do so without being flung into jail and left to rot.

Gracesgran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:33:44

You have been angry for weeks Annie and have obviously decided that anyone who doesn't agree with you is a Corbyn supporter - wrong. They could just have an open mind.

I said this thread had nothing to do with trains but was another attack on Corbyn because that is my opinion. I could not have come to that opinion believing others so called lies as no one else is likely to comment on a Gransnet thread; certainly not Jeremy Corbyn or anyone to do with or supporting him.

You are so blinkered and because of this thrust views on others that they do not hold. I appreciate that you think you are right Annie but have reached the point where I feel there is no discussion unless we appear to agree with you. I could not, for instance, agree with one point and disagree with another as you would just attack the post. That's fine and doesn't bother me but it is very boring and I - just my personal opinion - think there are more important things to discuss.

As I said a few anti-Corbyn Grannies will not change the world but it would be nice to have a balanced discussion ... perhaps about how the trains are run.

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 10:30:53

Just a thought, I assume Corbyn supporters must be George Galloway, Livinstone, Hatton and Militant supporters

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:30:33

I am not a Corbyn supporter nor a Blairite; there are even more politicians and political parties from which to take your pick if you take a look, and they are not all to the extreme right!

Elegran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:30:25

Pollengran "What IS this Momentum?" If you genuinely don't know anything about Momentum, how can you post so vehemently about current politics?

Does this help? What is Momentum, and why is it worrying Labour MPs? or was your question a rhetorical one?

Jalima Wed 24-Aug-16 10:28:04

Now that the GN Olympics is over, we have to have some threads to make us smile/giggle, surely?

And there have been plenty of posts that pointed out the ridiculousness of other politicians of all parties. Why should Jeremy Corbyn be exempt?
Especially when he sets himself up (or his advisers do).

Anniebach Wed 24-Aug-16 10:28:02

Best not to assume Pollegrsn if it causes you to lie about a poster
