Actually, I'm saying nothing else. Just thought I'd start a thread.

kittylester Mon 05-Sept-16 11:51:17

I think you are correct sunseeker.

Riverwalk Mon 05-Sept-16 11:29:52

I don't think so sunseeker - long gone are the days when MPs, of any party, were expected to resign for sex scandals.

sunseeker Mon 05-Sept-16 11:25:20

IF the newspaper article is correct he asked for cocaine to be brought to the party and said he would pay for it, although he did say he wouldn't want to take it. He has previously condemned the use of drugs. I have no interest in his sexuality or what happens between consenting adults in private but he did show a lack of awareness of what he was leaving himself open to. I can't help thinking that if this had been a Tory MP many on here would have been calling for his resignation.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 11:13:05

Hypocrisy is not what Vaz has been accused of. If he had spoken against gay rights he would be guilty of hypocrisy but he supports gay rights.

He is chairman of a committee looking into laws on prostituation , there are 20 MP's on this committee , they all have a voice.

What annoys me about sleaze allegations against MP's is why should they not have a private life, what matters is they do not break the law.

So Vaz will have to,live with mocking as Boris Johnson has to as a philanderer

I accept we all have different standards of morality and decency, I confess I am judgemental when it comes to Nigella Lawson

MaizieD Mon 05-Sept-16 10:56:24

I'm afraid you made it about Corbyn by saying that it was none of his business in such an agressive manner. However, I've said my bit and am quite happy to leave the thread to Keith Vaz.

MaizieD Mon 05-Sept-16 10:54:25

I'm thinking toe sucking and chelsea football shirts here as they might be taken as an example of an MP resigning because of sexual shennanigans. But didn't David Mellor resign becuase the Conservatives made a great 'thing' of being the party of 'The Family'?

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 10:52:12

I agree it is a private matter , I fully agree with Corbyns response, but this is not about Corbyn it is about Keith Vaz

MaizieD Mon 05-Sept-16 10:48:46

It was justified because it has nothing to do with Corbyn

So you think that when the press went to him, inevitably, as he is leader of the Labour party, for a comment on a Labour MP he should have said nothing?

I'm not a Corbynite, I'm not even a Labour voter. I just don't like the spin you're trying to put on a perfectly reasonable response; i.e that it's a private matter.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 10:41:25

cocaine was used? I have only heard of poppers being discussed

Riverwalk Mon 05-Sept-16 10:30:27

It never ceases to amaze that public people like Vaz, and there have been so many of them, think they won't be recognised! Particularly him as he's very high-profile.

I suppose it's arrogance - they think that the young sex workers are too thick to know who they are.

nigglynellie Mon 05-Sept-16 10:19:26

Difficult to know what to think! I do think he has been extremely foolhardy almost beyond belief. Stings are horrible, but surely anyone who is anyone must realise that if they indulge in shenanigans of any sort, they risk being exposed and the consequences of that exposure! A washing machine salesman?!!! reduces the whole thing to a Whitehall farce! If it weren't so serious it'd be funny! As it is, no law has been broken which reduces it to a rather sad and pathetic episode, which will sell the newspapers. His poor wife and children, it must be indescribably awful for them.

Grannyknot Mon 05-Sept-16 10:15:37

Er, offering to pay for cocaine to be brought to a house party is illegal.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 10:07:12

Do look up Sndrew Bridgen , his house selling deal,

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 09:52:11

Tory MP Andrew Brudgen us to report Vaz to the police and parlimentry standards committee , and in his opinion Vaz should stand down as an MP. He claims he knows things about Vaz which he has already reported to the police.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 09:32:45

It was justified because it has nothing to do with Corbyn, so I questioned - who the hell is Corbyn to condemn snyone , I would say the same if any other MP has been brought into it . Must remember how sensitive corbynites are

MaizieD Mon 05-Sept-16 09:17:48

Who the hell is Corbyn to condemn anyone

@Ab

As he hasn't condemned anyone; he's even said that it's a private matter, I really don't see how this indignant statement is justified. You do rather come across as being eaten up with hatred for the man.

I agree with Corbyn and most of the other posters here. It is a private matter (and not illegal). He has very wisely stepped down from the chairmanship of the Select Committee which is currently looking at prostitution. He is presumably now in deep sh*t with his family. What more does anyone want?

Riverwalk Mon 05-Sept-16 08:53:58

Stings are OK if the person is outed as a hypocrite ... family values and all that.

Vaz comes across as smug and full of his own importance and I'm no fan but from what I've read he hasn't been hypocritical or broken the law. We have no right to know the nitty-gritty of his sex life - just as in the exposing of Max Mosley and his orgies.

I feel so sorry for his wife and children.

Anniebach Mon 05-Sept-16 08:35:50

So far there has been no claims he has done anything ilegal. Paying for sex isn't .

I feel so sorry for the man, any sleaze should be atttched to the press, I think stings are vile.

The man is either gay or bi sexual, neither are ilegal , he has supported gay rights not condemned homosexuality

Who the hell is Corbyn to condemn anyone , he cannot condemn people for adultery , this isn't against the law.

A man , his wife and children have been publicly humiliating , who gains? Only their enemies

PamelaJ1 Mon 05-Sept-16 08:23:36

At what point do the people in public life understand that they are under scrutiny?
If they give anyone the power to expose them they will probably be exposed.

Badenkate Mon 05-Sept-16 08:16:03

I could be wrong, but I don't think he's done anything illegal. He also has a record of supporting gay rights so he is not saying something and doing something else as has been the case for many politicians and religious leaders. I feel desperately sorry for his family and can't understand why he did it, but it seems to me that this has all the signs of an old-fashioned newspaper sting.

BlueBelle Mon 05-Sept-16 07:50:55

Well I don't see it that way I think Jeremy Corban is saying it's not his job to comment AT THE MOMENT. I don't think he's condoning or condemning I think that is a great old media trick to continue their vitriolicic campaign I feel sure he will detach the party and himself as things come out I believe Corbyn is a principled man

Grannyknot Mon 05-Sept-16 07:44:31

Well, he's got friends in high places:

Jeremy Corbyn has claimed allegations that influential Labour MP Keith Vaz paid male escorts for sex are a “private matter”.

The Labour leader appeared to indicate that there was no need for high-profile MP Mr Vaz to stand down from his role in the party after he was exposed apparently paying two male escorts for their services.

kittylester Mon 05-Sept-16 07:08:35

He hasn't denied it. He's apologised but blamed the paper.

Christinefrance Mon 05-Sept-16 07:02:54

Sleaze, sleaze and more sleaze if it's true of course ! !

kittylester Mon 05-Sept-16 06:55:07

Doubt he'll be ex-mp. Might be ex chair of the Select Committee.
