God, I'd be devastated if I found out my DH went with prostitutes, and to find out he was gay into the bargain would just about put the kybosh on it for me!!!

Can I just point out that there is no law against "having a problem with homosexuality". People's personal and perhaps, moral, views are their own business and always must be. So long as no hurt is inflicted on another human being.

So no MP should have a vote on smoking laws if thry hsve or do smoke.

No MP should have a vote on anything relating to alcohol if they have or do partake

No MP should have a vote on drugs if they have or do enjoy a spliff

No MP who is a Christian should have a vote on Sunday shopping

No MP should have any human failings

No one in this country has the right to regard their own home as a place of security and privacy

We are all different on our take on things, but I would imagine it to be doubly hurtful to find that your husband had been with male prostitutes.....certainly would be for me.
As a politician in the public eye Vaz should have been careful about his lifestyle and wasn't.

He has compromised his position as Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

We cannot expect all politicians to be free from sin (there wouldn't be many to choose from would there!) but, just as they have to declare interests in anything which is for financial gain or may otherwise influence their decision-making, surely anything which could alter their thinking on policy but which they try to keep secret should, if found, be made public.

Of course it is not a private matter, it is in the public interest because of the influence they hold.

The rest of the U.K.? That is the daftest comment ever, the rest of U K have high moral standards . Who pays prostitutes, who commits adultery, who takes drugs , ah immigrants and all those oversea visitors

Surely someone who knows reasons why some use the services of prostitutes and knows prostitutes has a better understanding than those who condemn prostitution with no knowledge of the trade or the need some have for use of the trade

Of course you are right anniebach in that many people do these things, but if they are in a position which could influence any decisions they make affecting the lives of other people then we should be made aware.
Not just politicians - remember the head of the Coop bank for instance? People in positions such as these where they may leave themselves open to undue influence or even blackmail should not be so foolish.

I'm sorry but while I am perfectly comfortable to the point of not giving it a seconds thought, with somebody being in a relationship with anyone be it male or female, the sight and conversation of this ''party,' for me is just crude, disrespectful and if I'm honest just plain yuk! Again, sorry I can't be more liberal minded but I'm not! One can only hope that Mr Vaz's family are ok with the status quo, because if they're not, it would be just horrible for them.

Irrespective of the political party involved MP's and particularly those who serve in Cabinet/Shadow Cabinet positions and Select Committees have to accept that their personal behaviour is going to be scrutinized and should ensure they can be held to account without contradiction to perform their role appropriately.

Whilst it is accepted thus far no law has been broken it is only part of the overall problem.

To my mind the MP's on the Select Committees, more so the appointed Chair, are to be held accountable for their actions and should be held to a higher standard than back bench MP's. Why? They are by the sheer nature of their parliamentary roles in a position to have a greater input into the governance of the UK through having the ability to scrutinize , question and report on matters that back benchers do not. They must be seen as beyond approach or how else could those who have been/will be scrutinized by them accept they have a right to do so.

The fact the Home Affairs Committee reports on drug policy, prostitution laws, immigration et all does in my mind have a conflict of interest as far as the present Chair goes. Keith Vaz should behave in a parliamentary fashion and resign from the role as Chair of the Home Affairs Committee, a role I am surprised was ever given to him with his past conflicts of interest.

He has a right to challenge the authenticity of the evidence made against him but he might be wise to offer to temporarily stand down pending the sensitivity of the matter.

POGS you are setting yourself up as judge and jury at the risk of being accused of being a sanctimonious hypocrite. We don't live in a perfect world and people do indulge in practices which you and I may find distasteful but can you or anyway say with hand on heart that they have never strayed. Might I point out that I did not say I find anything distasteful in the accusations against Vaz! You owe me an apology. I said he had done nothing illegal and made no further comment in respect of it .

anniebach whilst I admire your stance regarding privacy etc.etc., we here are surprised it has taken so long to expose him. Plus following on from the Janner allegations it demeans the status of Labour MPs' in this area. Vaz does think he is fireproof, he is an arrogant bully. Don't get me started!
