You do swallow the propaganda hook, line and sinker don't you Roses. As a country is made up of it's people, who has done quite well since Brown left office? The poor and disabled? The blue collar worker? The just hanging on middle classes? Or perhaps just the top 1% and those living on unearned income?

I have never read anything from you that does not praise the Conservatives (who you have said you will vote for) and 'rubbish' anything coming from the other parties.

This thread may be about the future but if we do not understand the way our today has been fashioned by yesterday we will not be in a strong position to understand what we need for the future.

The biggest failure of recent government is GDP per person which loudly shouts that there has been too little investment. Please tell me what GO did to get that going in a different direction?

No, roses, the country has not done quite well. You might have done, but millions haven't. Even more millions are going to lose their homes next year because of the government's ideas on housing benefit. Many more are going to lose hundreds in tax credits.

So if Osborne had deregulated the banks would it have been right or wrong?

Not sure if your point rose the banking crash would have happened whoever was in government. All governments would have pumped money in at that point to keep the banks afloat.

Brown produced a re capitalisation plan that was followed by most countries to pull the world out of a hole. We were following the plan and our economy was showing signs of growth until idiot Osborne took charge and convinced people he knew better. We have had a period in which the poor have paid for the stupidity of the bankers and ensured that the wealthy have continued on their jollies.

However, that is all in the past now, but illustrates the point that ALL governments do the wrong thing at times, and if ever the saintly Corbyn and cohorts got into power, they would make mistakes, very likely big ones.

You're right Tony Blair's government did deliver some excellent reforms and policies in the early days. The conservative government had got very tired and TB was like a breath of fresh air. It's a pity we can't rewind the clock and resurrect that original New Labour team, they were good and inspirational.

Osborne wasn't in power though was he? so it was up to Brown at that point.

But the point it not a single country in the world did. That is because nothing like that had ever happened before, no-one not even those who had devised the leverage plans understood the implication of what they were doing. So to expect non experts like the government's throughout the world to understand what might happen is crying for the moon.

Osborne was telling Brown he hadn't relaxed his grip on the banks enough! He wanted more deregulation.

Of course it did! everyone was making so much dosh they didn't care.....but they should have done! A responsible Government would have thought about what may well happen, in any country.

The banking issue was not confined to the UK it happened throughout the world. Clinton and Trump debated the very same thing yesterday.

Yes, it COUlD have happened under a Conservative government too, but as it happened, it was Labour, so we shall never know.

The Iraq war is something we are never in denial about.

Bad situations arise under any government, ditto the way they deal with it.The fact is, that under Labour, things had been let slide that should have had a big lid clamped on them re the banks, but they were making so much money for the government that Brown and others were happy to go along with it.Please don't pretend that Labour did well!
