I'm a great fan of Richard Murphy. In his blog yesterday he set out his ideas on how the UK economy could/should be run

Please forget the association with Labour, just think of them as ideas for a new direction for the economy. What I am interested in is whether ideas like his would influence the way you would vote and what your reaction to them is.

Any takers?

I can't understand why people get so upset with politics.
When the votes have been counted and the winner declared, that's it for another 5 years. I've put a picture of me with some politicians, and to be quite honest I couldn't care whose in.

JOKE

IT is so funny watching you lot have a go at each other.

No we will be having Murdoch economics as May has received her instructions. Hunt received his years ago and the plan seems to be coming along nicely. Does Murdoch have any shares in private health companies do we know?

Thank you, MaizieD, for starting this thread about Richard Murphy and Taxresearch.
Not quite sure how we are expected to talk about his ideas without putting links on.
Unfortunately some people do not seem to see past the fact that he mentions the word Labour. It's only because the Tories would not take up his ideas properly.
Here's hoping that there are more companies that take up the Fair Tax Mark from his talk at the conference fringe.

I wonder if he's been invited to the Tory conference. He hasn't said so yet.
He would talk to anyone who likes his ideas, and of course Theresa May has said she is working for everyone in the country.
Another bit of post-truth politics? Say a lie often enough and people will believe the lie. Then you can carry on as before.

And as Beammeup says, you can find any article or speech on the internet to back up your particular point of view.

If we all did that there'd be no point in having a 'discussion' forum at all.

Which is why a lot of members don't read links on the political threads.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 22:51:49

And only for tonight.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 22:51:09

Certainly, with great pleasure! Will leave you to your own chat! Where nobody ever challenges you or says anything remotely that you don't agree with.Only on this one thread though. Enjoy.?

Ana Fri 30-Sept-16 22:49:24

Hardly.

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 22:49:24

How to solve the problem of the economy very quickly and easily.

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 22:47:07

What's wrong with finding links that support what we say?
Nobody has to read them. However, you shouldn't comment on them without having read them.

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 22:45:01

You really do not have to comment on everything that daphne and I say. Perhaps it's because all you do is attack the people rather than saying anything about the subject that puts people off.

Beammeupscottie Fri 30-Sept-16 22:44:41

The trouble with links is that you can find anything on "tinternet" to support any preference or prejudice. That way lies madness.

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 22:42:14

So get off the thread and leave us to it. Go and chat elsewhere.

Ana Fri 30-Sept-16 22:11:27

Neither do you, it's mostly links, links and more links.

And some of you take yourselves so seriously...

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 22:10:28

Your comments Djen and those of dd illustrate perfectly why so many people in Granset dislike a lot of threads and refuse to take part in them, so in the end it's about half a dozen posters only, all talking to themselves and patting each other on the back.
Both Ana and myself have had plenty to say, over the years on the politics threads, but we don't post endless links, or take a humourless approach to things.

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 22:01:24

You are both writing on the News and Politics thread. I often wonder why you bother, as you rarely have anything constructive to say.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 21:52:59

Exactly Ana it's getting quite ridiculous.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 21:51:57

Sadly, I don't have your massive expertise ( on every subject known to man.) hmm

Ana Fri 30-Sept-16 21:51:30

Why don't you stop the patronising comments to anyone who doesn't agree with you? This is Gransnet, not a Political website.

daphnedill Fri 30-Sept-16 21:43:24

Why don't you broaden your mind a little and find out about alternatives? Then you will be qualified to criticise constructively.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 21:43:17

grin Because you write in his blog dd it does not make Murphy important.

daphnedill Fri 30-Sept-16 21:40:21

@roses

So why do you think that nobody is taking any notice of Richard Murphy?

You really do come out with unsubstantiated twaddle at times.

daphnedill Fri 30-Sept-16 21:39:05

@roses

Some of them won't.

durhamjen Fri 30-Sept-16 21:27:55

Read again, Ana.

The government said it was going to impose the contract back in July.
However, he said in court that he was not going to exercise compulsory powers. That's how he is said to have won in the BBC article, and lots of other headlines about it.

So he is now not going to impose the contract. That's what the unpopular strikes were about, the imposition of the contract. Why did he not say he was not going to impose it back in July? Then there would have been no strikes.
Hunt has lied. Post-truth politics.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 21:25:53

Not that Richard Murphy is important enough to do that.

rosesarered Fri 30-Sept-16 21:25:00
