The 1972 Act that enshrined the EU law into UK law is to be repealed. The existing EU laws will remain and get repealed as necessary in future.

That will of course very much depend I assume on the negotiated settlement with the EU.
No other EU law will now enter UK law.

That's why lots of people don't bother anymore. I'm very pro Mrs May and make no secret of it. I think she's the best thing that's happened to this country for a very long time. Now wait for all the howls of indignation and endless dreary Guardian links! Bye, bye!

Ana Wed 05-Oct-16 18:51:14

No, it was not 'just what Theresa May said', but as I said, it's a waste of time posting anything on this thread unless it's anti-tory or anti-May.

durhamjen Wed 05-Oct-16 18:47:21

Your link did not work. What did it say? If it's just what Theresa May said, I watched it. That bit was quite nasty.
You only believe what you want to believe.

speye.wordpress.com/2016/10/05/benefit-cap-my-final-figures-158422-families-with-529129-children-affected/

She has five weeks to help these people and put this right.

Ana Wed 05-Oct-16 18:39:31

I won't bother re-posting it, waste of time. You will only believe what you want to believe.

durhamjen Wed 05-Oct-16 18:37:04

Here's one of her statements proved to be wrong.

fullfact.org/health/governments-10-billion-nhs-funding-commitment-what-nhs-leaders-asked/

I knew it was too good to be true.

durhamjen Wed 05-Oct-16 18:33:33

One person's opinion?
Amnesty say the same and there are quite a lot of people working there.
By the way, your link doesn't work.

'Outside of Europe, the Tories are adopting Ukip's frenzied obsession with immigration. During just three days they have pledged to phase out foreign doctors, cut down on the numbers of foreign students, put landlords in jail for not checking their tenants' residency papers and 'name and shame' companies for hiring foreign workers.'

Is this the Tories becoming Ukip?
May didn't seem to mention all this this morning.

This morning my granddaughter had a form to take in to school, asking about her nationality.
It asked about where she was born, what nationality on her passport, if she spoke English, what other languages she spoke at home.
The school apologised for it being short notice, but had not realised it was a government requirement.
Am I being paranoid?

Ana Wed 05-Oct-16 18:27:51

That's just one person's opinion.

whole story

You know better, do you, Ana?

Tegan Wed 05-Oct-16 18:09:13

It'll be interesting to see what she does actually do about Philip Green (et al).

whitewave Wed 05-Oct-16 18:02:16

Any Tory who wants help converting to a Tory/Labourite is welcome to ask questions and I will be more than happy to assist grin

Ana Wed 05-Oct-16 18:01:54

Neither.

whitewave Wed 05-Oct-16 17:57:37

So ana are you a Cameron/Thatcher Tory or the all new all dancing all singing Tory who is concerned for the ordinary worker and fair shares for all?

Ana Wed 05-Oct-16 17:53:35

She knew exactly what she was saying - it will not 'get rid' of human rights for the forces.

whitewave Wed 05-Oct-16 17:52:54

I do keep wondering whether it has something to do with her Christian background?

It must be very difficult being a Tory and follow the recent Tory philosophy if you also follow the Christian philosophy.

durhamjen Wed 05-Oct-16 17:45:57

I wasn't going to watch it, but my grandson said we had to, otherwise we couldn't complain about what she'd said.
Like you, whitewave, we were wondering if she was in the right party.
My grandson kept saying isn't that good, and I had to keep saying yes, but she has to do it, not just say it.
I had to shout at the television when she went on about the NHS and Hunt. Such lies.

I noticed she became very heated when talking about the forces and the ECHR, left-wing lawyers, etc.
What she hasn't realised, obviously, is that if she gets rid of that, she also gets rid of human rights for the soldiers she admires.

Anniebach Wed 05-Oct-16 17:28:48

It was obvious she would aim for the centre ground, very much pre thatcher

The Tory party faithful must have wondered at some stage if they were at the right conference, or whether they had actually somehow got tickets for a Labour meeting a decade ago.

So much of what May said in her speech could have been lifted straight out of a Blair conference speech.
Back came the state as a medium of intercession between the weak and powerful
Back came the need to recognise that the ordinary worker had lost so much during the great austerity
Back came the idea of a fairer Britain
Back came the idea that everyone should be given the opportunity to achieve
Back came the idea that tax should be paid by all
Out went touchy-feely hug a hoody Toryism
Out went the Metropolitan elite -she hates them - clearly needing revenge after perhaps experiences with all the Tory elite around the Cabinet table
Out went there is no such thing as society
Out went the big society

Metaphorical new brooms - I remember the ibiding image of Thatcher with a broom just prior to her election.

daphnedill, the subjects are getting a bit mixed here, were you meaning that the above list offer bursaries? If so thank you for that. It will be very helpful. Do you have to apply to the universary? Or do they look at the grades you got for A or O level? My grandson got 7A* 3 science, 1 French, 2 Maths, 1 Computing studies, plus A for English, A for DT, B for English Lit and C for history. He has opted for A Level of 3 sciences, plus Maths.

Yorkshiregel Wed 05-Oct-16 15:24:06

Sure they can. What I was saying was that parents should be allowed the choice, grammars or comprehensives. If the child can pass the entrance exam then the schools should be open to all.

daphnedill Wed 05-Oct-16 15:21:01

Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, York...

I know of the above without Googling. I expect there are more.

Yorkshiregel Wed 05-Oct-16 15:12:03

daphnedill which university is it that gives bursaries?

daphnedill Tue 04-Oct-16 23:18:13

@roses

I think you're on a different planet or in a different timezone. The only university within commutable distance for my son was Cambridge. Unfortunately, he didn't achieve the grades to go there and Cambridge doesn't approve of its students living outside college anyway.

The total cost today is about £17,000pa. Even with inflation, it costs a hell of a lot more to go to university.

rosesarered Tue 04-Oct-16 20:45:17

dd It was obviously what you say, if you checked , but there were all the living costs on top of the tuition fees, so think their total cost per year would then have been about £3,000 a year. The rent alone cost a great deal, and of course, £3,000 then was a lot of money. It has certainly risen a lot since then though, and a neighbour's son has opted for living at home for his last year to save money, I think perhaps that those whose Uni is near home will do that.

durhamjen Tue 04-Oct-16 20:30:19

Theresa May has had her bluff called over Brexit.
