Last night at the Spectator awards Boris apparently said Brexit will be a titanic success........

Ana Sat 05-Nov-16 14:14:38

Although it's far more likely they just made that assumption.

durhamjen Sat 05-Nov-16 14:04:41

It was at the Spectator Awards, so I assume they were more likely to see them than anyone else.

Jalima Sat 05-Nov-16 13:45:55

Perhaps they were spectating his notes Ana

Jalima Sat 05-Nov-16 13:45:22

well, unless they saw it written down
T or t

Ana Sat 05-Nov-16 13:45:19

Just by hearing him say the word? How odd.

Jalima Sat 05-Nov-16 13:44:51

'too clever for his own good'

durhamjen Sat 05-Nov-16 13:42:12

Theresa May buried her head in her hands when she heard Boris say "Titanic". The Spectator seemed to think it had a capital T.

He may have had a lot of support from his family, but they did disagree with him on Brexit.
That was his sister on the news in the Remain boat on the Thames.
And his father and brother both said he was wrong on Brexit. They all campaigned to remain.

However, family love should come above politics and it appears that it does with the Johnson family.

I think Boris is very clever, the kind of brain that is so quick that many people are left bemused by him.
However ..... if he bemuses so many of the British people what on earth do the rest of the world make of him?

What my MIL may have called 'too clever for his own good'.

titanic: extremely powerful, strong, important, or large:

Does Boirs know that the Titanic sunk, I do wonder.

He has a lot of support from his family.

It amuses me that many people don't realise Boris'"Buffoon" act is just that & hides a very good brain. He is a very clever man & well educated. thlgrin

I love the use of the word "titanic" regarding Brexit, Boris knew exactly how people would perceive the use referencing it to the sinking of the Titanic not it's correct meaning thlhmm

Jalima Fri 04-Nov-16 14:40:09

Ruth if you are Boris's mother then I have a great deal of respect for you, having had Parkinson's D for so many years yet still continuing to paint.

smile

ps does no-one else say that something is 'of titanic proportions'? no?

or ever use a double-entendre?

VIOLETTE Fri 04-Nov-16 14:24:58

Well, in the context of people's grasp of the word Titanic ....we all know what happened to that don't we ? As for life after Brexit being anything like the Titanic, then God help us all ........I bet Mr. Putin is listening whilst shunting his warshps up and down like menacing shadows ! Boris will be well away by then ...

Skullduggery Fri 04-Nov-16 14:21:18

Ruth1958 are you Boris's mother or a crazed fan?

There surely can't be any other explanation! hmm

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:12:46

Yawn..ur so clever!

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:12:00

Ian Hislop sadly seems to be turning into the biggest plonker!

vampirequeen Fri 04-Nov-16 11:11:21

Although we all know the meaning of the word 'titanic', it has because of the events in 1912 taken on another meaning. Boris knew exactly what he was doing. He chose the word 'titanic' because of it's original meaning but knowing that people would pick up on the word and comment on it.

As the saying goes. 'Any publicity is good publicity'.

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:09:41

Lots of people like him

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:08:22

Beautifully said

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:07:15

You are showing your ignorance!

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:06:27

Boris is the best!

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:05:39

Wise words!

Ruth1958 Fri 04-Nov-16 11:04:43

I'm afraid the British are just not able to see that this man is a very intelligent politician. We are used to rather stupid politicians and public. The word titanic doesn't only refer to the ship! This country was once a well educated place...most people appear to have a very shallow understanding of the meaning of words!!!

RobtheFox Fri 04-Nov-16 10:47:04

My Dad use to say that the clown on the highwire was invariably the most skilled of them all. Don't underestimate Boris - he was using the correct definition of the word.

Craftycat Fri 04-Nov-16 10:43:28

Gotta love Boris!!

vampirequeen Fri 04-Nov-16 10:42:56

I think his buffoonery is very calculated. It's easier to defeat your opponents if they underestimate you.
