WEll, here's a nice idea:

European Parliament considers plan to let individual Brits opt-in to keep their EU citizenship

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-eu-citizenship-freedom-of-movement-passport-how-to-keep-parliament-live-move-abroad-a7405196.html

Brexit campaigners in Britain reacted with anger to the idea, arguing that it would discriminate against Leave voters and that it was 'an outrage'.

How bizarre. I thought they didn't want to be EU citizens.

These Brexitters are really confusing me...

Jayne Adye, director of the Get Britain Out campaign described the proposal as divisive and said it was “totally unacceptable” for British people to retain the advantages of EU membership.

“This is an outrage. The EU is now attempting to divide the great British public at the exact moment we need unity. 17.4 million people voted to Leave the EU on 23 June and as a result the UK as a whole will get Brexit,” she said."

How bonkers can you get? Outrage?! I think it's hilarious

All I can say to Ms Adye is "I didn't ask for Brexit and I certainly have no intention of uniting with you just because you think I should"

Sign me up for EU citizenship!grin

(Can't really see it happening, unfortunately)

As soon as your passport runs out you will be given a British passport like it or not. You are British. If you do not want to be British there is just about time for you to move to France/Germany/anywhere in the EU. You cannot have your cake and eat it. For goodness sake why not support the country you live in?
As far as I'm concerned if someone wants to be an EU citizen then they are ashamed of being British. Talk about being unpatriotic. Appalling.
Just two of the comments about something which surely is an individual decision. Why on earth do they feel they have to berate people?

Let me remind you of what was said, roses

As far as I'm concerned if someone wants to be an EU citizen then they are ashamed of being British. Talk about being unpatriotic.

What was suggested was that it was unpatriotic to want EU citizenship. Puts quite a different spin on it?

Ana Thu 10-Nov-16 22:06:50

confused

Ana Thu 10-Nov-16 22:06:31

Has it? {confused]

suzied Thu 10-Nov-16 22:04:20

Why is being patriotic such a great thing? It's started a load of wars hasn't it?

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 21:46:28

I think that only one poster suggested it is 'unpatriotic to be ashamed to be British'
Not because 'one would like to retain some sort of EU citizenship' to be fair, two different statements there.

MaizieD Thu 10-Nov-16 21:35:15

There is something quite frightening about being told one is 'unpatriotic' because one would like to retain some sort of EU citizenship. It has a fascist ring to it, somehow.

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 21:14:00

Both Jalima and POGS voted Remain, and they have always accepted the democratic vote results and been gracious about it.
Unlike SOME ( yes, the dreaded some.)

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 21:09:48

Haha trisher ..... now that did make me laugh.grin
Lashing out frantically (Madam Whiplash)
Verbal abuse and threatening others?? Are we reading the same thread here?

Jalima Thu 10-Nov-16 21:08:44

who is lashing out?

and I speak as a Remain voter who is quite ashamed of how some Remainers are behaving as if there has not been a democratic vote.

Jalima Thu 10-Nov-16 21:06:14

Why is it that some Brexiters can only talk rubbish!
Who, on this thread, has asked for another vote?
Did you even bother to read it all

confused now

Ana Thu 10-Nov-16 21:04:23

'Lashing out'? Haven't seen any of that on here (not from Leavers, anyway...)

trisher Thu 10-Nov-16 21:02:17

Isn't it strange that those who won the referendum cannot in anyway be magnanimous in their victory but feel the need to verbally abuse and threaten others, simply because they wish to retain EU citizenship. Can it be that they actually realise what a huge mistake they have made and are lashing out frantically, trying to take the spotlight away from the all mighty mess that is Brexit?

Ana Thu 10-Nov-16 20:52:37

What, you mean the Remainers would then agitate for yet another vote? hmm

Welshwife Thu 10-Nov-16 20:47:02

True but there would always be hope!

Ana Thu 10-Nov-16 20:23:45

But the result might still be the same, Welshwife, or Leave may have an even greater majority! grin

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 20:21:40

Sorry....not on the cards.Just accept it.

Welshwife Thu 10-Nov-16 20:18:24

The difference is that Trump can be voted out in four years - - but that is an idea ---to have another referendum in four years to see if we wish to rejoin the EU albeit on not such good terms as we have now. That would mean we could 'get over it' and just wait it out. grin

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 20:12:20

Just as Trump has to be accepted by all Americans, those that voted for him and those that didn't.And plenty did vote for him, no matter what we think.

rosesarered Thu 10-Nov-16 20:09:20

No, nobody has to like it ( Brexit) what they have to do is accept it!

Welshwife Thu 10-Nov-16 20:08:36

I don't think it exists at the moment but I think those countries have accepted free movement of people so it would not be necessary.

Jalima Thu 10-Nov-16 20:06:18

What about the Swiss and the Norwegians?
Do they have an associate citizenship?

Jalima Thu 10-Nov-16 20:05:07

I should say: I doubt that it would be compulsory if it came about (which it may not).

Jalima Thu 10-Nov-16 20:04:07

As far as I'm concerned if someone wants to be an EU citizen then they are ashamed of being British.

You are an EU citizen now.
You can't be an EU citizen without being a citizen of a member state and the proposal is to allow British citizens to remain EU citizens as well as being British citizens after Brexit.

I doubt that it is compulsory.

bangs head against wall
