Trump. How could all those people vote for him?
Ochone ochone (Gaelic lamentation)
So demonstrations are wrong, was Dr King wrong?
The threats ( Re muslims) have dissapeared from his official website.
Don't forget what he said when challenged about his attitude to women - "It's only words, folks."
Trumpcare doesn't have the same ring as Obamacare, does it?
Trumpdoesnotcare?
I am sure he will abandon most of it
This article gives the impression that Trump could abandon every reason he was voted in for.
www.politics.co.uk/comment-analysis/2016/11/11/the-world-wake-up-clear-and-present-danger-donald-trump
Unfortunately, he probably won't, particularly the tax changes where people as rich as he is will get an extra 14% to take home, or bank. He'll also have to replace Obamacare with something else, which will cost just as much.
Rhinestone, that sounds very much like what happened after the Brexit vote. There were people asking Asians why they were still here, why they hadn't gone home, just because they looked foreign.
We seem to have forgotten that we are building a wall, around Calais, to keep foreigners out. Anyone know if it's finished yet? It was started in September.
Do you think if we had another PR vote, Maizie, the result would be different?
There is an EDM to ask for another referendum on it.
Clinton won the popular vote but Trump won our stupid electoral college.many of us want to see that go.
And there I was thinking that your Electoral college system actually looked marginally better than our stupid 'first past the post' system!
We had our chance at a version of Proportional Representation but those of our Great British Public who bothered to vote in the referendum plumped for the status quo.
I'm afraid we're stuck with silly voting systems on both sides of the Atlantic for the time being.
Well the Clinton supporters are rioting in the streets so what does that say about them. Democracy won through thats what the majority wanted so it should be accepted.
Why have polls they always get it wrong. Think Brexit before that the General Election.
Trump reminds me of evangelistic preachers in the US. Promise the answers to everything, if you just believe. And enough did.
Avaaz.org is doing a Global Letter to Trump - have a look.
I don't know how many of you are American on here but I am. Yesterday there was an incident in a school where someone videotaped students age 12-14 chanting " build a wall build a wall" to some Latino children. There have been small hate crimes all day yesterday. Mr Trump said the protests ( that were peaceful) were organized by the media. Where does he get this stuff?
The people that voted for him wanted someone NOT a politician. Clinton had 25 years of doing good for children and families. But the few mistakes she made could not be overlooked. 46% of people who could have voted chose not to do so.
In my opinion a vote for Trump was a vote for hate and those that did sold themselves to the devil. Yesterday on Facebook the Trumpsters kept telling others to get over it and move on. I did not like Bush but he was respected in how he conducted his campaign. This is like a death to many. I feel like I did the day Kennedy died.
Clinton won the popular vote but Trump won our stupid electoral college.many of us want to see that go.I am embarrassed for my country and for what we will have to endure. By the way it was confirmed yesterday that Putins people were in communication with Trumps campaign. I hate that we have to trust him with the nuclear codes.
Tegan You ask why people vote for someone who promises things they can't deliver.
Politicians lie, and the more power they want, the bigger the lies.
David Cameron lied over and over in his first term but people voted him in again. Why was that? Because there wasn't a suitable alternative.
When there is an election, and your confronted with A or B and you really don't want either candidate you just have to try and weigh up what's the worst outcome ( for you)
I have this dellema every 4/5 years because I don't trust any of them.
I did say that protest only works if things CAN be changed.Nobody can now change the results of the US election or UK leaving the EU.
Protest here and in the US has changed things . If it wasn't for protest you wouldn't have a vote, roses. Neither would many of the US population. Those who won their vote through protest are the ones who value it more.
www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2016/11/11/trumps-economic-incoherence/
Worth reading, and showing again that it's not just people on here who question Trump and the sanity of the US population.
Even the FT queries the result.
That's just how the American elections vote, every State has a number, it's different to here, but that IS their way of doing things. So Trump did win, by quite a good margin.
Protests against him in the US can't change anything ( which is why people DO protest)hoping for change. He has won and will be the President, so all protest will do is stir up anger ,crime etc.
Here, we are going to leave the EU, a democratic vote has been held, so no going back.
By my reckoning Trump is old too then Tegan
I still don't understand why it is democracy when people vote for people who lie and promise them things that they can't provide. The marching isn't against the democratic process but people [such as myself] just want to scream out 'not in my name' when they see the racism and xenophobia that people like Trump and Farage [and millionaire newspaper magnates]unleash. To gain power by making certain factions of society feel superior to others because of their ethnicicity [sp] is, imo, unacceptable, and I will never stop voicing my opinion on this matter.I've never cried on 11/11 before, but I did today because I feel that people like Trump are making the world a very dangerous place for my children and grandchildren; I fear so much for the future at this moment in time. At least I'm lower middle class and white, but I am old and the old will be next I fear.
I had to look this up Nigglynellie

However - as Clinton is so unpopular with voters whom one might have thought would vote for her, then I can't see it happening, or, if it did, there would be a total breakdown.
Trump still has to get through the Electoral College! Could this stop him ? Serious question, so serious answers please!
We are not the only ones who wish the US had a different system.

That woman on QT last night was certainly expressing her views - I was hoping DD would banish her but he did manage to shut her up occasionally. We were tempted to put it on mute.
The American literature professor - with her on your side who needs enemies?
Enough to put you off the best candidate in the world (and unfortunately Clinton was not, which was the problem).
His son-in-law and daughter, and presumably DGC are Jewish
Living in a democracy does not mean that after the people have voted you do not have the right to express your views. I am still perfectly entitled to say that Brexit is a terrible mistake and make as much effort as I am legally allowed to try to mitigate the enormous problems it will bring. There is nothing in an vote that says after that vote I am not allowed to criticise the decision that has been made. That is the route of dictatorship - it does not relate to any understanding that I have of democracy.
