Trump. How could all those people vote for him?
Ochone ochone (Gaelic lamentation)

Ana Wed 09-Nov-16 21:03:49

And I was referring to the EU referendum vote in this country when I mentioned 'some on here' rather than the presidential election in the USA, but there may indeed be a parallel.

petra Wed 09-Nov-16 21:03:26

Ana Perhaps the veil might start lifting if the German and French elections go the same way next year. The Gaudian readers have to understand that the world is changing.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 21:00:16

Well, it is a parallel petra

The Democrats are supposed to be the party for the working class but have absolutely failed them and many Labour politicians here have completely failed to understand their core voter in recent years.

I did get rather confused though, because the Democrats are blue and the Republicans are red!

LumpySpacedPrincess Wed 09-Nov-16 20:59:52

But by voting against something they were voting for a racist who despises women, that say's something about them.

Ana Wed 09-Nov-16 20:56:47

Good luck getting some on here to believe that, petra!

petra Wed 09-Nov-16 20:54:27

Did anyone see Irvine Welsh ( author of Train Spotting) being interviewed in Chicago ( where he now lives) He gets it completely why Trump won. He likened it to Labour's attitude towards the working class. And when asked if he would be coming back to the uk, no.
Some people have to understand that when people voted for Trump or brexit, they weren't voting for something but voting against something, big difference.

merlotgran Wed 09-Nov-16 20:43:40

I hope Cuba doesn't end up being piggy in the middle thanks to Trump cosying up to Putin. Their new improved relationship with USA could be on shaky ground now.

Ana Wed 09-Nov-16 20:43:03

I was talking about the nuclear button, LumpySpacedPrincess, not actual shootings...hmm

LumpySpacedPrincess Wed 09-Nov-16 20:38:47

Considering the death toll in America I would argue that point Ana

LumpySpacedPrincess Wed 09-Nov-16 20:37:50

This is a man who hates women, he is openly misogynistic and an out and out racist. Anyone who prefers him to Hilary must agree with his vile views, I despair. How much racist hatred does someone have to spout, how many women must he assault before he is deemed unqualified?

I'm pretty sure the President can't activate the button completely on his own! There are safeguards - even the USA isn't that trigger-happy...grin

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 20:16:21

I think we may be merlotgran
He could be quite different, but what worries me is his propensity to send vicious texts etc at 3 am to anyone who he believes has slighted him.
Finger on the button? Let's hope he has a team around him to tie his hands behind his back.

merlotgran Wed 09-Nov-16 20:14:45

All we've seen during the campaign is Trump at his ranting worst with verbal insults being hurled in both directions. I am curious as to how he will portray himself on the global stage now he is President Elect.

I can't stand the man but he's an accomplished performer so will we now be in for a charm offensive?

Shanma Wed 09-Nov-16 20:14:09

I couldn't believe it when my Hubby woke me and told me that Trump had won . I have felt really strange all day, all edgy and unsettled
I can't think what else to say. How could this happen!!!

Grannygrunt123 Wed 09-Nov-16 20:12:23

What a negative lot you are. Lighten up and give him a chance. Brexit will be the best thing to happen to this country in a long time. This country is as corrupt as hell and its the general public that suffer unbelievably and we line the pockets of many a big potato that is rotten in the middle.

willsmadnan Wed 09-Nov-16 20:06:47

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit suzied. If any of you think Trump will be allowed to rampage throughout the world, spreading death and destruction you are seriously deluded. 'Brakes' on extremist presidential ideas are written into the American constitution. There is no way he will get anything extreme through Congress, even though the Republicans hold the majority, as they have for years. He will look the fool that he is at global conferences and the great US of A will be embarrassed by him. So be it. Who are the great promoters of 'democracy'? The Americans. Isn't this result of democracy at work?

Peaseblossom Wed 09-Nov-16 20:01:58

grannypiper I quite agree with you. I'm glad Hillary Clinton didn't win. I can't stand her or her sleazy husband. Pity it came down to these two. Both unsuitable in my opinion. I think Donald Trump may surprise the doubters and be successful. However, I was shocked to learn from a comment on here that both his parents were in the KKK. That is a truly awful organisation. I hope he succeeds with stopping or curtailing immigration and makes sure every person who is allowed in is thoroughly investigated and illegals and suspected terrorists deported. Pity we don't do that in the wishy washy lily livered UK. We just hand them benefits, food vouchers, and somewhere to live. Makes my blood boil when there are many needy people of our own. Ex-soldiers with PTSD, people needing housing, etc.

Fitzy54 Wed 09-Nov-16 19:56:15

Just heard that Clinton has, as of now, about 100,000 more votes than Trump, but more concentrated than Trump's so less effect.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 19:50:36

Yes, we noticed, although it was the second item on our national news.
sad
Perhaps you would like to start a thread willsmadnan although speculation as to the cause may be rather premature.

suzied Wed 09-Nov-16 19:40:43

Who said it wasn't more important? The full story of the tragedy in Croydon hasn't emerged yet. It shouldn't preclude people from discussing other things surely? Why don't you post this on one of the threads about Christmas?

Judthepud2 Wed 09-Nov-16 19:39:36

I think we have all noticed that tragedy Willsmadnan. My thoughts go out to the bereaved. But that is not the topic of this thread.

willsmadnan Wed 09-Nov-16 19:35:14

While you are all behaving like headless chickens.... have any of you noticed 7 people were killed and 50 injured in a tram crash in London? Extreme politics, which none of you can do FA about, is obviously more important than the loss of life. I despair of you lot sometimes.

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 19:25:29

I don't think the OP called them uneducated maddyone did she?
