I am so angry and upset!! cannot believe the result. I woke early and even before the final result came in I could see the way it was going and just could not watch anymore. I cannot bear even looking at the man! You've all said it - i.e. what he is. I switched off the news and havent looked in since. Cannot bear to see him gloating. God help us all.

Do ANY politicians of any persuasion/political party really "get" what it is to be poor? Really poor. I doubt it.

Happy birthday Jane. It is also my daughter's birthday. On her 21st birthday the Berlin Wall came down and now she has another event to remember on her birthday. How can a man who so openly verbally criticised and abused Hilary Clinton, then thank her for all she has done for America in her years in politics? Talk about 'two-faced' - that's putting it mildly. I am not a fan of Hilary Clinton but better the devil you know etc. Be very afraid!!

I find it odd that one big issue on his platform was all about not electing Hillary as she is one of the detestable political elite.

Well, he's always been the rich elite who rubbed elbows constantly with the political elite.

Now, he's one of them! confused

I don't think that Theresa May's message to Trump was overly friendly anniebach - what else could she say without causing problems? Other leaders such as Davidson, Sturgeon etc can be less non-committal but they are not PM.
May said last year that he was 'just plain wrong' over his views on social cohesion but now she will have to work with him in a cordial fashion.
What is the alternative?
Too worrying to contemplate.

Candlefran- why don't you believe it- listen to him.

Just like, but 1000x worse, some Polish families felt after Brexit.

I am so so sorry for minority groups be they due to race, colour, creed, religion. I feel deeply sorry for those Americans who could see past his empty rhetoric and promises to the evil misogynist bigoted person he really is. I feel absolutely sick to my stomach at what has happened. I feel civilisation has taken a major leap backwards and can only think God Save America, because Donald J Trump won't.

so tragic - whole families woke up this morning terrified of what will happen to them ...

A very dark day for the world. sad

Luckygirl Wed 09-Nov-16 11:12:10

I agree - there is a groundswell of relatively poor folk both here and the US who are sick to death of political elites not listening to them - the arrival of someone who appears to be promising them utopia was too much to resist. Add in the fear of extremism and terrorism, which has been used as a lever, and here we have it - Trump and Putin - what a bloody world.

Sadly those who are hoping for utopia are about to be dreadfully disappointed.

Oh...and lets not forget the gun culture in the US, that is something else to add into the mix.

I fear for my GC.

ranjura That was a bogus quote www.factcheck.org/2015/11/bogus-meme-targets-trump/

He might surprise us. Bark worse than bite and all that. No point giving in to hysteria. I do not believe there are small children afraid of going to school because of this.

Elrel Wed 09-Nov-16 11:01:50

What a world ?

pollyperkins Wed 09-Nov-16 11:01:22

LGBT is lesbian/gay/bisexual/trans for whoever asked!

I'm also worried for the future of the world and particularly the grandchildren

Them Gilly:

IF I WERE TO RUN I'D RUN AS REPUBLICAN. THEY ARE THE DUMBEST GROUP OF VOTERS IN THE COUNTRY. THEY BELIEVE ANYTHING ON FOX NEWS. ICOULD LIE AND THEY'D STILL EAT IT UP. I BET MY NUMBERS WOULD BE TERRIFIC.

PEOPLE MAG 1998.

Rowantree Wed 09-Nov-16 10:59:39

Reminiscent of Germany in the 30s.

But hey - he's going to make America great again. I can't wait, can you?

maddyone Wed 09-Nov-16 10:55:06

I didn't like either Trump or Clinton, so I'm glad I'm British and didn't have to choose. However Rhinestone, calling the people who did vote for Trump 'uneducated' seems little different to other derogatory name calling ie racist.

gillybob Wed 09-Nov-16 10:53:53

We were all surprised, shocked even to find that the UK had voted to leave the EU so why are we surprised that this has happened in the USA?

There are obviously a lot of people all over the world who are fed up to the teeth with the way they are treat (or rather ignored) by the usual political parties. Can we really blame them for wanting to try something different?

Teddy123 Wed 09-Nov-16 10:51:25

Why are we all so surprised?

To me the curious question is how he disposed of all the other candidates .....

Some maniac will shoot him.

moonlight Wed 09-Nov-16 10:48:43

Thank goodness i dont live in America i would be packing my bag and moving as fast as i could out of the country, how can a nation vote in such an arrogant sexist racist as Trump. And he wants to be friends with Putin God help the world if he gets all he demands

gillybob Wed 09-Nov-16 10:46:37

All our white middle-class friends in the USA have been e-mailing and FBing to ask how they can move out asap - they just can't fathom living in the USA from today.

But worse, there are whole families and communities that woke up this morning really scared for their future, blacks and hispanics who are good, hard working citizens- striving for a better future - and who now just don't know what will happen. Young children terrified of going to school today

So I wonder who voted for him then granjura confused

mamamags Wed 09-Nov-16 10:45:58

What the hell has happened!!!!!! I now truly feel that our lovely planet is heading for destruction on the outcome of this crazy election

Jalima Wed 09-Nov-16 10:43:29

Ruth that is a point, voters may be sick of political dynasties and have voted for the maverick candidate rather than more of the same

trisher Wed 09-Nov-16 10:42:52

It isn't 'hysterical' to be concerned for the minorities in any community Ruth1958. To describe these posts as such is to denigrate the very real concerns about the policies that were promoted by Trump during his campaign and the possible results should he carry these through.
