Let's hope that the rest of his government can keep him in check. As has been shown in this country over Brexit you cannot just steamroller through policies without the backing of all members. A sad day for all sane, liberal, free thinking people everywhere in the world. I haven' t heard any mention of LGBT people will he pick on us next?

Yes I live in a world where economies have to grow to keep the population in work and feed them. Continually dipping willy nilly into communal coffers soon depletes the national income - see the former USSR as a prime example. Far left ideologies and communism don't work. Help the poor but you have to have money generated by business to do it.

Politicians and the so-called financial and political elite have completely ignored this and ordinary working people for years, and not just in the USA either. This elit has cotinued to grow richer and richer despite the devastating events of the crash just as they have here. They at least have an alternative - we just have Corbyn! "Trumpism" is the result. I have friends in the USA, both working, not in the bottom income group but not rich either and I know they were planning to vote for Trump as a slap in the face for the shafters and troughers at the "top". As to what sort of President he will be, well that remains to be seen but he is the President now whether anyone likes it or not.

Horrified and scared. Feel even less secure after Brexit. Even greater need for United States of Europe ?. My NATO colonel friend says security is the biggest worry since Brexit.

Dreadful day for the world but the Democrats should have chosen a better candidate. Not sure what Trump is for but we all know he disrespects women,is racist and will be for the rich people like him- very sad

Beammeup I agree with your posts, hopefully those around Trump will moderate the sort of things he has been promising ( we all know how hard it is to stick to a manifesto from any party.)
wobblybits and any others, can we have no more talk of assassinations, this is the sort of thing better left to weirdos on Twitter.
Most of us are shocked by this win, but as his speech showed this morning, he is capable of normal rhetoric when not grandstanding, and although he is popular because of a tv show (Apprentice) He has always been a successful business man worth billions ( Ronald Reagan was an actor after all.)
Am guessing he will only have a few years as President, due to age and the fact that he won't deliver on what people want.
It's not neccessarily Armageddon ( we have to hope!)

The FBI will probably be going through all his past with a fine tooth comb. I have no doubt whatsoever that there must be stuff buried in there at least as bad as what he accused HC of, that would get him impeached or whatever they do to presidents. He is not a man to have got through his life so far without making some intersting moves.

Nothing we can do about it. Brexit is being challenged but in the end we have to live with the final result. Trump being made President is the same as the U K voting for Brexit. I just wish they would leave God out of it.

Was watching this most of the night. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. He just doesn't seem to have a self control button. Hopefully his advisors have a bit more political acumen and can rein him in. Some lessons in diplomacy required.

One upside: Katie Hopkins says she will go there to live if Trump wins. Hope she keeps her promise!

quite agree...can't bear to look at news...the thought of seeing his triumphant expression is too much. The world seems to work in cycles and my friend aged 93 just said to me that today is the worst day in history since 1939
