I've just discovered Dan Jarvis MP.

daphnedill Mon 28-Nov-16 22:41:33

@ab

My former husband came from generations of miners. His father and uncle started their working lives as miners. They worked their butts off to get out. There's nothing noble or romantic about staying in a dirty and dangerous job when there's an option for an escape route. I don't have much sympathy for working class heroism. My own family were North Sea trawlermen. There's nothing heroic about losing fingers because they freeze or three of my ancestors who died because they were lifeboatmen. Most of my family worked hard and escaped. Most people could escape if they didn't adopt a victim mentality. Please don't lecture me about ancestry.

Yes, annie, I live in a wealthy area, but that doesn't mean that I'm wealthy. In many ways it makes my own poverty worse, because there is almost nothing available for people who aren't wealthy. Frankly, I'm getting fed up with your rants.

I'm getting fed up with the Labour Party. I couldn't care less whether Jarvis is a member of Progress or that Rachel Reeves and Debbie Abrahams are members of the Fabian Society. All of them seem like people who could actually run the country.

Anniebach Mon 28-Nov-16 22:48:49

Victim mentality? What a vile thing to say about the British working men. Are you Emily Thornberry in the real world?

You msy we'll be getting f d up with my posts daphne, don't read them, anyway you are mixing with the working class when you reply to me,

Anniebach Mon 28-Nov-16 22:50:14

And I agree Daphne, those you name do seem like people eho could actually run the country

durhamjen Mon 28-Nov-16 22:51:23

www.progressonline.org.uk/about-progress

Founded in 1996, Annie. It matters to Labour party members, daphne. The reason Corbyn is leader is because they did not want someone who supported Blair, which all the others did.
Rachel Reeves has said that Labour is not the party for those out of work, handing over a lot of votes to UKIP.

durhamjen Mon 28-Nov-16 22:55:00

' Most people could escape if they didn't adopt a victim mentality. '

Is that not one of the problems we have now, that physical work is seen as demeaning, so nobody wants to do it? If everybody escaped, what would happen then? Brexit means we can't have Polish doctors cleaning or cooking for us.

Anniebach Mon 28-Nov-16 23:09:50

if Manual work is demeaning , working class mentality and all that

I would love to know if they took Daphne advice, drop the victim card and get out of manual labour, eho would build houses, mend roads, clean hospitals, clear drains, work on farms, all those poor victim card players

Anniebach Mon 28-Nov-16 23:11:51

The reason Corbyn is leader is because of years of work in the shadows to bring communism back

suzied Tue 29-Nov-16 07:51:05

When did we have communism? I didn't realise it could come back...

Anya Tue 29-Nov-16 08:21:58

Suzied re training our own curry chefs. Nearly all the sons and daughters of the staff at our local curry house have ambitions, or are already studying to be, doctors, lawyers, dentists, etc.. They do not want to work the long hours that their fathers (usually) have put in to get their children an education.

As for training up non-Asian unemployed to take over the role, they simply don't want the work. Same with farm work.

suzied Tue 29-Nov-16 09:45:11

I seem to remember seeing a piece on tv about a privately funded scheme in Bradford where they were running a cookery school to train for the Asian catering market, perhaps the government should be investing in more schemes like this. Being a chef is a perfectly acceptable profession. The wages in catering should be higher and there wouldn't be a problem. Maybe there is an Indian Jamie Oliver out there.

With Labour Party into its current free fall destructive mode, I reckon there must be quite a lot of people who feel politically homeless.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 10:06:45

I do thatbags, in honesty I am finding it very difficult to come to terms with.

thatbags Tue 29-Nov-16 10:10:23

Me too, annie.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 10:19:25

If there is an election next year I don't know how to vote , have thought of the choices but would be a hypocrite if I voted for one of them and the thought of not voting upsets me

Anya Tue 29-Nov-16 10:41:42

I agree

Anya Tue 29-Nov-16 10:42:30

But many traditional labour voters are saying they'll turn to UKIP. I hope not.

thatbags Tue 29-Nov-16 10:43:46

I've spoiled my ballot paper on occasion. I've a feeling it may happen.

Jalima Tue 29-Nov-16 10:48:42

Sorry, daphnedill but lifeboatmen will always be heroes to me, that's why I support the RNLI.

Losing their lives was tragic but they were heroes.

Jalima Tue 29-Nov-16 10:57:02

Victim mentality? shock

Did you watch 'The Last Miners' on BBC daphne? Proud men, comradeship, proud to do a 'working class job'

Were they any happier when some of them gained managerial jobs after redundancy? We would need a follow up programme to find out.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 10:58:56

This traditional voter will not turn to UKIP, I am concerned they are targeting South Wales and guilt riddled because I should be there canvassing should there be an election, I want to support the Welsh MP's but cannot lie about my views on Corbyn

Jalima Tue 29-Nov-16 10:59:07

Yes, if you spoil your ballot paper at least it is registered which it is not if you abstain.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 11:07:17

wonder why those victim mentality miners fought a year long strike

nightowl Tue 29-Nov-16 11:07:51

Many traditional labour voters have felt politically homeless since 1997, myself included.

Anniebach Tue 29-Nov-16 11:10:07

You should feel at home now nightowl owl

nightowl Tue 29-Nov-16 13:09:58

Not really Annie, I hate the fact the party is tearing itself apart. But I am glad that things are being shaken up and the left is being heard again. I just hope there can be some kind of resolution in time for the next election.
