These are some nominations.
Who would you choose from the list?

I rest my case.
I knew that you would never consider him a hypocrite maizie even though he patently is!

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 22:01:37

Not a hypocrite, dodging taking part in the tv Brexit debates even going on holiday during this period , fact - he wanted out if the EU, always has , yet didn't support the outers or remainders.

Sacked Benn because Benn didn't agree with him and stood by his beliefs?

Run a campaign to get expelled militants back into the party whilst grass root members were taking the flack for the party being too left wing and so unelectable, you could not have canvassed during those fourteen years .

He is without honour , without loyalty to his party but no guts to start his own party

He has now changed his mind on why labour did so badly in the last three bi elections , seems it was caused by the leadership challenge

M0nica Sun 01-Jan-17 21:35:40

nightowl, do you mean the Jeremy Corbyn who objects to honours but sent Shami Chakribatee to the House of Lords for no obvious reason, except that she was about to write a report on a contentious issue within the Labour Party or the Jeremy Corbyn who has always stood by his beliefs but believes every other Labour MP should shed theirs and agree with him ...or else (deselection)?

nightowl Sun 01-Jan-17 20:18:25

Good post Monica though doubt any Socialist Gransnetters will agree, they may have a different version of hypocrite ie. a politician they disagree with.

Your statement does seem to imply that you think most socialist gransnetters lack honesty or integrity, or perhaps simple intelligence rosesarered.

Anyway, I will respond to your subsequent challenge and say that I think Diane Abbott behaved hypocritically by sending her son to a private school. I lost a lot of respect for her when she did that. I can't agree that Jeremy Corbyn is a hypocrite because he has always stood by his beliefs. Disagreeing with the party line is not the same thing as disloyalty or hypocrisy.

rosesarered Sun 01-Jan-17 19:14:34

Thank you ab quite right, I never said anything of the sort that Nightowl has implied.
What I actually said /meant was that the Socialist Gransnetters ( other than ab) would not agree that Corbyn was a hypocrite ( probably wouldn't agree that Dianne Abbot was either.) Of course I could be wrong.....but it would be interesting to hear from them.

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 13:26:16

In an interview when abroad she claimed she had her own political programme in the Beeb, Neil was rather amused by this

nigglynellie Sun 01-Jan-17 13:17:30

She's a hypocrite, it's as easy as that!!!

Ana Sun 01-Jan-17 12:31:59

She also said “West Indian mums will go to the wall for their children.” on the Andrew Neil programme when questioned about her decision, and refused to answer when he asked whether she thought black mums loved their children more than white mums.

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 12:06:18

True niggly

nigglynellie Sun 01-Jan-17 11:56:11

As you say ab, a gem!! Nearly as good as Diane Abbot telling us that her 11/12 year old son went to Grammar School at his insistence - nothing his mother could do about it! So that made it all alright then?!!

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 11:55:06

Again no, she did not say or suggest that, you have a different view on hypocrites than I do, that's all

nightowl Sun 01-Jan-17 11:52:26

Maybe not hypocrites, maybe just morally bankrupt. (A correction to my previous post).

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 11:51:54

No nightowl, risesarered did not say any thing to imply anyone was a hypocrite

M0nica Sun 01-Jan-17 11:49:06

No, I do not think that is the implication. The problem is with the person who drew up the original list (not the OP). He drew up a list of politically very unpopular people and then assumed the word hypocrite meant most hated/unpopular.

Perhaps in the USA that is what hypocrite means.

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 11:46:03

And Emily Thornberry who had her children privately educated. On being asked why be against grammer schools but for private education for her children she said - this is a gem - I want the best education for my children and all children,

Can anyone explain the logic in her reply please?

nightowl Sun 01-Jan-17 11:44:49

You seem to be implying that all socialist gransnetters apart from Anniebach are hypocrites rosesarered. Not very nice.

nigglynellie Sun 01-Jan-17 11:33:08

Yes you're right Monica, and I was wrong voting for D.C who is imo a shallow and weak willed coward, but that isn't being hypocritical in the true sense of the word. J.C, Shami, D.A are shameless hypocrites, for the reasons you stated the worst imo is Shami for accepting her elevation to an institution that she apparently disapproved of so strongly and has time and again actively wanted abolished!! Her sons education just proves the point, if indeed any of us were in any doubt!!!!

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 09:37:54

true rosesarered, I nominated Corbyn on this thread and Shami .

I may have missed a link earlier last year, all the links on Jo Cox and one where she wrote for the guardian declaring Corbyn a weak leader and she had made a mistake voting fir him , not a pip

rosesarered Sun 01-Jan-17 09:24:58

Don't know where the IS came from!

rosesarered Sun 01-Jan-17 09:24:17

Ah, but you are the one Socialist Gran who sees Corbyn for what he really is like
IS ab nobody else does.

Anniebach Sun 01-Jan-17 09:07:46

Really rosesarered? I assume my posts have been ignored for a long time ?

M0nica Sun 01-Jan-17 09:06:58

One para is incomplete.

Corbyn and Abbot are hypocrites in the full meaning of the word. The others are just unpopular politicians at best, espousing.... unpopular or unsuccessful policies.

rosesarered Sun 01-Jan-17 09:02:21

Good post Monica though doubt any Socialist Gransnetters will agree, they may have a different version of hypocrite ie. a politician they disagree with.grin

M0nica Sun 01-Jan-17 08:57:34

Whoever drew up this list clearly doesn't know what the word hypocrite means. A hypocrite is someone who self-righteously espouses one cause while living the opposite. Supporters of the sanctity of the family who are secret adulterers, for example. Very few on the list are actually hypocrites, unpleasant, nasty, contemptible, probably, but hypocrites? No.

The hypocrite of the year is the one party leader not mentioned. Jeremy Corbyn. Voting against his party how many times 300 - 400? Then demanding loyalty from his fellow MPs when he becomes leader and coming down like a ton of bricks on those who oppose his policies and principles. He railed, and continues to rail against the honour system and then makes Shami Chakrabati a peer, as he asks her to do a report on anti-semitism in the Labour party. The report finds no problem, surprise, surprise. Then there is Diane Abbot, staunch left winger, publicly opposes private education, but had her son privately educated.

Corbyn and Abbot are hypocrites in the full meaning of the word. The others are just unpopular politicians at best, espousing

What are the credentials of the organisation that drew up this list? All I can find is that the site is the personal site of some US oddity, and political maverick, called Matt de Heus, about whom I can find little information. Not a site whose views and lists I would give any credence to. He certainly isn't knowledgeable enough to understand the proper definition of a hypocrite.

Ana Sat 31-Dec-16 17:31:02

(apparently. Or allegedly)
