First blood to Trump

Trump will be inaugurated in 16 days time. Ford has recognised this new era.

How will his Junta of advisors deal with the political world?

Will Trump continue to govern by twitter?

Will his erratic behaviour stop?

Will he be less muddled in his thinking?

What will happen to NATO and article 5?

Will the world survive his environmental policy - such that it is?

Will America be able to contain him?

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 20:04:35

gillybob I think a lot of Americans must feel the same way too - how else how did Trump get elected?

I can't say I think much of him but those Americans who have felt neglected, ignored by Washington over the years are going to love him and his message.
How much did we hear about the closed factories, the queues for soup kitchens, the disaffected until Trump campaigned? We still thought Americans lived 'the dream'.

I can't say I would have voted for him but I can see why so many people did and now we have to wait and see what happens and if he fulfils their dreams.

Time will tell.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, until I actually LIVED in the UK and stood in your shoes, I refrained from sounding off about UK leaders as though I was entitled to the moral high ground. hmm

One thing stuck with me after I moved here and that was Tony Blair's stupid remark that the reason he supported George W was because he "liked him". Liking a personality is not the measure of judging a world leader! hmm

Today Trump chose to quote a Batman character... oh lovely. Trump promised he'd be taking America back from the elites, "and giving it back to you the people."

In Bane's speech in The Dark Knight Rises, the muscular mercenary pledges to take control back from the corrupt forces in charge of Gotham City, "and give it back to you...the people." Isn't he among the most elite of the rich elite? He's always rubbed elbows with politicians, very closely. Now he is about to wield that power. Watch very closely. Every president does 'good stuff' in their first 100 days. After that, everything changes and not always for the better. hmm

Oh and don't forget David Duke of the KKK... The Imperial Wizard sent his congratulations to Donald Trump on his inauguration as President. He tweeted: "We did it!" hmm

And do it goes, as Linda Ellerbee used to say... and so it goes. confused

Having read the comments, I think he ought to give up tweeting.
Not very presidential.

www.nytimes.com/2017/01/20/us/politics/trump-takes-over-the-potus-account-on-twitter.html?ribbon-ad-idx=4&rref=politics

He has taken over the POTUS twitter account, but is continuing to tweet on his own account.
Isn't that why Clinton lost to him, because she was seen to be deceitful by using her own email account?
I know email and twitter are different, but it was using a personal account instead of the government account that she was in trouble for. The emails were still there, not hidden at all.

Yes, forgot that one petra

Two banner messages from bridgesnotwalls;

We shall overcomb

Migration is older than language.

petra Fri 20-Jan-17 19:13:43

They'll certainly take notice of that one gillybob wink

varian Fri 20-Jan-17 19:13:42

Trump has no pride in America - he denigrates America.

I didn't get that from the BBC gillybob

In our lifetimes we have seen and heard some pretty dishonest, sanctimonious speeches delivered from the steps of no 10 Downing Street, from M Thatcher to T May - but nothing like as horrendous as this.

God help America!

petra Fri 20-Jan-17 19:10:57

You forgot ' little englander' Sunseeker

gillybob Fri 20-Jan-17 19:07:29

Thank you sunseeker I don't really care what anyone thinks of my opinions. I don't think anyone takes much notice anyway . I stick by my post that I thought his speech was passionate and well meaning . only time will tell .

And don't get me started on "other politicians" as most of them ( if not all) are self centred , egotistical, liars !

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 19:05:11

Varian didn't say she was watching on the BBC, did she?

Careful gillybob or you may be accused of xenophobia - it seems a lot of people on this forum really dislike the UK and anyone who puts their head above the parapet and disagrees with them is obviously a racist, an idiot and uneducated.

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 18:32:36

Some people have more than enough pride to make up for my lack of it.
It's okay having pride in your country if whoever is doing the talking says something to be proud of. I really couldn't be proud of anyone who makes such divisive speeches when pretending to talk for the whole country. Can't think who he reminds me of!
I read a comment yesterday about his hand setting on fire when he swears on the bible. That didn't happen, either.

gillybob Fri 20-Jan-17 18:20:08

I rather enjoyed his speech and the BBC coverage did not show the faces of any of the previous presidents during the speech varian so not sure what you mean . I wish we "the United Kingdom" had a tiny bit of the pride the Americans have for their country .

durhamjen Fri 20-Jan-17 18:14:20

I'd better warn the delivery man, whitewave.

Megalomania's not in it, varian. Couldn't bear to watch the real thing, but just seen it on the news.
There is no category for him in my book of politics.

POGS Fri 20-Jan-17 18:05:24

Could be right.

'Some don't like it up um'.

whitewave Fri 20-Jan-17 18:03:58

This thread is getting like Dads Army. I shall put you on my list. What is your name ? Don't tell her Pike grin

whitewave Fri 20-Jan-17 18:02:06

Forget a good trade deal.

varian Fri 20-Jan-17 17:59:20

Did you see the former presidents listening to that shocking speech?

Not just Obama and Clinton, even Dubya looked stunned by Trump's crassness, ignorance and denigration of the American economy and America's standing in the world.

Dubya, in his day, was wisdom personified by comparison.

A very sad day for the USA and for the world.

POGS Fri 20-Jan-17 17:58:03

WW

You are both on it!

Anniebach Fri 20-Jan-17 17:55:33

I did start watching but when it reached the reading of The Beatitudes I switched off , more than a step too far for me

Jalima Fri 20-Jan-17 17:51:28

I could not wish anyone dead and I would be surprised if any pacificists would do so either, would they?

There is hope though:

whitewave Fri 20-Jan-17 17:50:59

Watch it dj you'll get put on someone's list grin

whitewave Fri 20-Jan-17 17:48:32

In about 3 weeks I think there is the state of the union speech. We will definitely -we hope- have some idea what he intends to do then.
