Sadly Mair you are totally wrong - the notices were hand written and usually in block capitals and simply had four words on the paper - NO BLACKS NO IRISH. I have not made a mistake - I was in my twenties and was totally horrified. The only people from the Carribean I ever came across at that time worked on the tube or on London Transport buses and they were happy, smiling and helpful people! The notices were the most disgusting things.

Local elections, labour took seat from UKIP, Libs took seat from Labour in Rotherham but labour support slipped , Libs gained a 50% increase in vote share. Tory's held a a seat in East Stafford with 0.3 - Lab 0.3 - UKIP were third but with 17.7+

Oh talk about dogs with bones. Do we care? We know that the Commonwealth immigrants struggled to be accepted and experienced racism back in the post-war years. As did the large numbers of Irish people who came here to work in the construction industry. The Irish rebuilt London in the ruins of the blitz and built the motorways of Britain. They were often terribly exploited, being paid "off the book" by subcontractors. They tended to be single men, coming from rural areas. They are the only immigrant group to "suffer worse outcomes" as a result of moving to mainland Britain. That is why, on monitoring forms, they are a different category.

I fully accept there were signs designating that boarding houses didnt take a particular ethnic group, but not that this particular nasty sign linking the 'no dogs' to two ethnic groups was a common sight across London.

I am not sure what point you are making with your story of racial discrimination iN Bristol fifty years ago?

MY argument was not that there was no racial discrimination,there was, but that the particular 'sign' which has been so overused for propaganda purposes over the years was either just a 'one off' or even possibly a set up. There is just no evidence for its existence.

We are speaking of the ethnicity of children in London schools, and if children are 'native British' by ethnicity , then, by default, they are not 'Asian British' or 'black British'.

You are choosing to misuse the description 'native' to designate only birthplace, and since you know that the discussion was about ethnicity of children in London schools, NOT whether they were British or foreign born, you are clearly deliberately trying to muddy the waters and divert the discussion.

If discussing the ethnicity of President Obama and President Trump you would not describe them as 'native Americans' based on their birthplace, that descriptive is reserved for those of indigenous American descent. Kindly accord the same respect to the indigenous people of Britain and other European countries.

So back to your observations about your local schools, I think we can safely conclude that the ethnic majority British i.e. native British, have already fallen to ethnic minority status in all your local schools. I am not surprised!
