Paul Nuttell is according to the poles is 10% ahead in the Stoke bi-election, so I thought I would look at some of his beliefs. I was astounded at how similar they are to Trumps.

1. Privatisation of the NHS - this has been taken from his website because he needs the votes. Privatisation of the NHS doesn't attract votes.

2. Wants a referendum to vote on restricting woman's rights. He is anti-abortion, and believes that there should be a ban on adverts for family planning and abortion.

3. Burka ban. In all public buildings.

4. Against banning discrimination against gays.

5. So he believes in placing restrictions on Muslim belief/culture, but is against any restriction to Christian beliefs.

6. Thinks sexist comment are OK, and against placing restrictions on these type of comments.

No wonder he was so thrilled when Trump won the election.

Nigel Farage was refused a visa to go to work in the States on Fox News
Nigel has many enemies in the establishment who wish him ill.

Not a good week for Farage, nor his stable mate Le Pen.

JessM Thu 02-Feb-17 07:23:53

Paul Nuttall and Nigel Farage having a bad week. The EU parliament think they have been using EU money (like the money MPs get for paying some staff and renting an office) to pay people to work for UKIP political campaigns. Looks like they will be fined.

MPs and MEPs are supposed to be very careful and strict about this and they usually are. (e.g. the local party members can't wander into their MPs office and do photocopying of a council campaign.)
Also, apparently, Nigel Farage was refused a visa to go to work in the States on Fox News.

Posted before I finished

A local candidate (the Labour man) could do well if he is popular and has done much for the area.

Jalima Thu 26-Jan-17 23:49:47

I was just trying to answer daphnedill's question but not being a UKIP voter I don't really know. And having not visited Stoke for quite some time I don't know what it is like there now only what I have heard.

There is unemployment but it is not excessively high as has been suggested, although marginally higher than the UK average. There have been a lot of initiatives to regenerate the area which have just started and are ongoing.

So it could be anyone's seat - depending on the campaigning.

MaizieD Thu 26-Jan-17 23:34:51

Perhaps the point is that they want change - any change but not the Tories.

Sounds amazingly like some people's reasons for voting Leave.

But at least they get a chance to change their minds in 3 year's time...

Jalima Thu 26-Jan-17 23:27:22

Perhaps it's more what Labour has failed to do and how out of touch they are with the people of Stoke-on-Trent that is more to the point, rather than what UKIP can do.

Perhaps the point is that they want change - any change but not the Tories.

That is not saying that UKIP will win as Labour may still retain Stoke, it will all depend on the candidate and on the campaigning there.

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 22:13:58

Any reason why I shouldn't?

I do whatever I can to earn money, provided it's legal and moral.

Ana Thu 26-Jan-17 20:56:20

I thought you taught language students ptivately dahnedill but obviously you have many strings to your bow! And so much knowledge about so many subjects and professions...

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 20:51:40

explains much Daphne, thank you

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 20:48:05

Indeed! I still work full-time (well, that's how it seems), but I work for myself and am stuck on a computer for much of the day working. I get bored doing the things which earn me money, so I go off on Google searches or reading all sorts of things. I even do FutureLearn courses. I rarely watch TV, so it fills the time, apart from all the other things I do. I write teaching materials while I'm on GN. Your point is?

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 20:20:12

I am sure you are a skilled googler Daphne, practice makes perfect

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 20:18:32

No, I'm just a skilled and fast Googler. grin

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 20:18:09

And Daphne, why do you need others to write your CV? Is this the norm?

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 20:12:46

Are you addicted to googling Daphne?

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 20:01:44

Oh, OK! I'm still hoping a die-hard UKIP supporter will come along and explain what Nuttall and UKIP would do for Stoke in a positive way.

Interesting to know your politics are left of mine, as you're a Labour supporter. If anybody calls me a leftie again, I might point that out.

I have to say that I could never vote for UKIP for any reason (except, perhaps, a gun to the head). If I lived in Thanet, I might even have voted Conservative in a tactical vote to keep Farage out, but UKIP - NO!

petra Thu 26-Jan-17 19:55:46

dd Yes a would, actually. If for the only reason this one act might ( and it's a big might) force the Labour Party to look at it's self and get rid of Corbyn, but I have little hope.

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 19:53:10

Well, that surprises me, I must admit.

So why do I get called a leftie, when I've only ever voted Labour once in my life?

It's a funny old world!

whitewave Thu 26-Jan-17 19:51:35

???????????????are you sure rose

rosesarered Thu 26-Jan-17 19:50:19

Petra has said several times that she is a Labour voter, but am sure she will be along soon to say as much dd

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 19:46:44

Ana Why is it strange? Petra has just posted something which Snell's opponents are using as ammunition all over Facebook and Twitter. Anyway, I've read petra's posts in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me. I was hoping for some enlightenment.

Ana Thu 26-Jan-17 19:42:50

What a strange assumption to make, daphnedill.

rosesarered Thu 26-Jan-17 19:41:13

shock I don't think that phrase is used now( in polite circles) ww grin

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 19:39:32

I assume you want UKIP to win petra.

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 19:38:51
