Paul Nuttell is according to the poles is 10% ahead in the Stoke bi-election, so I thought I would look at some of his beliefs. I was astounded at how similar they are to Trumps.

1. Privatisation of the NHS - this has been taken from his website because he needs the votes. Privatisation of the NHS doesn't attract votes.

2. Wants a referendum to vote on restricting woman's rights. He is anti-abortion, and believes that there should be a ban on adverts for family planning and abortion.

3. Burka ban. In all public buildings.

4. Against banning discrimination against gays.

5. So he believes in placing restrictions on Muslim belief/culture, but is against any restriction to Christian beliefs.

6. Thinks sexist comment are OK, and against placing restrictions on these type of comments.

No wonder he was so thrilled when Trump won the election.

I found out which one you meant - Trudie McGuinness. She's worked in Further Education for years and is a member of ATL, which is the a very moderate teaching union. I was a member of ATL for years. Before that, I was a member of SOGAT. I don't think anybody would bother giving details of my union membership on my CV, but I suppose I might if I were applying to be a Labour politician.

I hope for labours sake nobody remembers the tweet that Gareth Snell posted last September.
Soft Brexit, hard Brexit
Massive pile of shit
Sloppy Brexit, messy Brexit
Quit Quit Quit.

I just tried to pass on the info I received , this was strange ? mmmm

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 18:38:14

True, I just thought it was a strange thing to highlight.

Jalima Thu 26-Jan-17 18:23:06

you could say:
'What's wrong with being a woman?' as neither got selected.

Jalima Thu 26-Jan-17 18:22:13

Nobody said there was anything wrong with it
confused

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 18:08:17

Which one was that?

What's wrong with being a union activist?

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 18:01:11

That does sound right , he was standing for selection and the other two on the short list were women , one has been a GMB activist

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 17:58:53

He was up against two women, one use to be a GBM Activist

whitewave Thu 26-Jan-17 17:56:41

Is he any good?

Anniebach Thu 26-Jan-17 17:55:27

A Gareth Snell, at one time he ran the Newcastle under Lyme council

whitewave Thu 26-Jan-17 17:33:59

Doh!!! My brains clearly not up to standardgrin

I also meant have you got any info on candidate?

Ginny42 Thu 26-Jan-17 17:33:40

In December he said on the Andrew Marr show that he was committed to keeping the NHS in public hands. Here is also pretty convincing evidence that he has a fake cv.

whitewave Thu 26-Jan-17 17:04:26

I can remember the odd one or two who said they supported UKIP

Ana Thu 26-Jan-17 16:47:41

Exactly - and I'm surprised you know for sure that there are any, daphnedill.

f77ms Thu 26-Jan-17 16:45:55

daphne but would any own up grin

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 16:34:15

There are UKIP supporters on GN. Maybe they could enlighten us about any positives in UKIP's policies.

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 16:28:34

No sunseeker I am saying that they should think very carefully about where their vote could lead. It's probably scaremongering to claim that voting for a single UKIP MP would lead to a fascist state, but the working class, ordinary people in early 1930s Germany were duped in exactly the same way.

I can understand why people in Stoke think the way thay do. If you haven't watched John Harris' video, I suggest you do. However, my question to any UKIP canvasser turning up on my doorstep would be "So what are YOU going to do?" UKIP specialises in negative rhetoric, but it doesn't have any answers.

whitewave Thu 26-Jan-17 16:17:06

sunseeker in my opinion if political parties are not answering the voters needs then of course they must change their allegiance. But blimey UKIP!!!!! There is a limit grin

daphnedill Thu 26-Jan-17 13:58:59

If people didn't see this video from Stoke when it first appeared just before the referendum, it's an interesting watch:

sunseeker Thu 26-Jan-17 13:33:58

dd sorry I don't understand the point you are trying to make there. Are you saying that voters should stick with the same parties who have failed them simply because it is safer to stick with the status quo?
