Goodbye Paul Nuttall and frankly, should it not also be Goodbye UKIP?
A party whose very success in achieving the thing they were set up to achieve, Brexit, brought with it a blunt question - what is the point of them now?

It could be. I heard on the radio that somebody was seriously injured in Stoke. However, the turnout in Copeland, where the weather was also bad, was over 50%.

I wonder if the weather had a lot to do with it - Storm Doris was dreadful and perhaps that is why the turnout was so low.

You wouldn't have been the only one. The turnout was 38.2%, which is even lower than the 2015 election.

Fingers crossed Ukip will be toast. I wonder if Arron Banks will make good his promise to start a new political party.

Never mind! Nuttall is such a multi-talented chap that I'm sure he'll find a new job when he stops being an MEP.

Love the idea of 'what' should replace him. I'll have a think about that.....and meanwhile cross my fingers for the result - but only in as much as I want him to lose - if I were a voter there I'd be in the 'none of the above' category

I've just read that if Nuttall loses, he will not be on Marr's programme on Sunday.

Two of UKIP's top people in Liverpool have resigned because they are ashamed of Nuttall. I think they should have more to be ashamed of, but that will do for a start.

Sometimes I really do feel I am living in a parallel universe with the POTUS peddling fake news (and then accusing everybody else) parliamentary candidates doing likewise -lying on your CV has never been easier to spot, so why bother, election manifestos which make the late Screaming Lord Sutch look mild by comparison, pronouncements whose spelling would not pass the eagle eye of my primary school teacher, MPs , those pillars of society (?) cheating and fiddling their expenses, university students who lack the intellectual capacity to cope with "he/she" and ban raising a hand to ask a question (can't remember why now, is it threatening? Sexist? Not PC?) all a sort of drip, drip erosion of right, proper or accurate.
I am not sure if my late parents would be able to laugh or just shake their heads sadly.

I like "a piece of incorrect information going out in my name" it's a whole new term for lying. Wish I'd thought of it years ago.

Totally off thread but perhaps interesting- the suffragettes stood up in church in Newcastle and sang "God save Emmeline Pankhurst" when she was in prison in 1913. The National Anthem isn't sacred.

I just read her manifesto (very briefly) - Magna Carta woman.
She wants to re-nationalise the railways (amongst many other things), that can't be bad surely?

But:
She wants to charge Churchill with treason
Repatriate Irish travellers - and their ancestors (reinternment?)
Psychiatrists and Mental Health workers will have a higher IQ than the patients they pretend to be superior to.
So compulsory IQ tests before anyone can see a psychiatrist
Does she include herself in that?
