The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

Bannon v Priebus - all bets are on who's going to win the struggle?

There is a difference between the speaker of the Burmese parliament coming to the house and Trump given the honour of addressing both houses ,let trump visit the house but not speak, he would Certsintly boost UKIP's membership and the EDL would love him

You are 'aving a laugh' aren't you.

'Odd I think to lay into these two using such strong language "bile" and "humiliated"'

BILE and HUMILIATED. I think the use of word 'HATE' is using stronger language.

I'm not 'anging' on to anything!

I am stating my view.

A pity more people were not interested in seeing hypocrisy in my opinion.

Actually I find Bercow is wanting in his role of Speaker and I mentioned Dennis Skinner too because I think they are showing hypocrisy. I singled them out in response to DJ but I will happily expand my view to other MP's also who fail to see the shallowness they are displaying.

I have more interest in the Rohingya Muslim genocide than worrying about safe guarding the reputation of Bercow and Skinner to be honest.

Donald Trump promised to 'build on the legacy of Abraham Lincoln'

Perhaps he should take a leaf out of his book:

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt

Wait and see how much more he can remove the doubts.

petra Mon 06-Feb-17 18:33:58

Thank you for bringing that up,POGS Once again, hypocrisy reigns.

Jalima Mon 06-Feb-17 18:32:25

So we must stop all muslims coming over here because they could be one of them.
Ignoring the fact, obvious to most of us, that they are fleeing the terror in their own countries not bringing it with them.

'Ang on a minute POGS
Just because Skinner is recorded as making a remark today doesn't mean he "feted" the representatives of Myanmar. Do you even know whether he was in the house during the announcement? And if he was, does every remark by a Member get recorded on Hansard?
Or do you just dislike Bercow (Con) and Skinner (Lab)? Don't think Bercow can help his face so why the gratuitous insult: "smarmy face".
Odd I think to lay into these two using such strong language "bile" and "humiliated"

I have a comment to make because I am sick of hypocrisy.

2 weeks ago at the start of PMQ's ( 25/1/17 ) Bercow with his usual smarmy face welcomed the speaker of the Burmese (Myanmar) parliament and a delegation of parliamentarians who are watching on.

Did Dennis Skinner say anything? No.

The Burmese Government are welcomed , as was Aung Sun Suu Kyi given much respect in the past by Parliament.

I am mentioning this because of the state of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar/Burma. MP's debate the genocide of the Rohingya Muslims in Parliament but the Myanmar/Burmese government turns a blind eye as to the Rohingya Muslim suffering, Genocide, Slaughter.

www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/30/nobel-laureates-aung-san-suu-kyi-ethnic-cleansing-rohingya

"More than a dozen fellow Nobel laureates have criticised Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s de facto leader, for a bloody military crackdown on minority Rohingya people, warning of a tragedy “amounting to ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity”.

The open letter to the UN security council from a group of 23 activists, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Malala Yousafzai, warned that the army offensive had killed of hundreds of people, including children, and left women raped, houses burned and many civilians arbitrarily arrested."

So let me get this straight the Myanmar/Burmese representatives are 'feted' by the likes of Bercow and Skinner but the Democratically elected President of the United States is shown such bile and humiliated.

Sorry but I think some people have lost the plot.

MawBroon Mon 06-Feb-17 18:16:58

The Speaker has spoken!
I can do no better than echo Dennis Skinner's "two words"
"Well done!"

Ana Mon 06-Feb-17 18:06:37

Ooh no, his word is Law! grin

nigglynellie Mon 06-Feb-17 18:06:33

As someone has already said no one criticises the EU!

nigglynellie Mon 06-Feb-17 18:05:14

If HM can accept President Trump then so can Speaker Bercow!

Ana Mon 06-Feb-17 17:53:06

What's Bercow got to do with May's invitation? She didn't say he could speak in the house...

petra Mon 06-Feb-17 17:51:50

roses I'm tired, shouldn't be posting. OH well, gives 'someone' a reason to have a pop.

rosesarered Mon 06-Feb-17 17:47:31

Oh you will be! grin Libya.

petra Mon 06-Feb-17 17:46:26

Lydia? Of course that should be Lybia. Wouldn't want to be pulled up again for my spelling, would I grin

whitewave Mon 06-Feb-17 17:46:04

Bercow is being sensible and providing a counter balance to the rash invite given out by May.

petra Mon 06-Feb-17 17:43:15

I don't know if this has been mentioned but, aren't the eu doing the same as Trump.
Trump puts a ban in place. The eu pay Turkey and Lydia to keep migrants out.

Ana Mon 06-Feb-17 17:07:36

A lot of people who aren't particularly drawn to any one political party will vote for change after a period of government. It happens in this country too - notably after Labour's last term in power.

Third gem if the day "I call my own shots based on data"

Like the data that got him to sign an EO about Steve Bannon by mistake?

thatbags Mon 06-Feb-17 16:03:56

I agree, ffinn, and I think it is fear and disillusionment that drove so many to vote for Trump because they had felt increasingly afraid for their livelihoods and work security. One of the most surprising things I've read several times in different places is that many who voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012 voted for Trump last year. Talk about a big swing!! That in itself is a fearful thing.
