The plot thickens as to just who authorised that State visit invitation.

There were also conflicting accounts of who had suggested the Queen extend the invitation for a state visit to Mr Trump. On Monday, a government spokesman distanced Mrs May from the decision, saying that such invitations were proposed by a previously obscure group called the state visit committee, which includes private secretaries to the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William.
Insiders say this provoked anger from Buckingham Palace, and Mrs May later was forced to clarify, acknowledging during an evening press conference in Dublin, “I issued the invitation” and “that invitation stands”
