The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

Chewbacca Tue 31-Jan-17 22:21:53

I think even Trumps wife and son might struggle, Daphne to be fair but it's always a possibility. But I don't like to bring his family into it because I truly don't think that they have much input into what's going on. Personally I haven't seen a post that supports him and so I can't judge on that.

It looks like Trump got many of his ideas straight from his friends in Saudi.

dd says that the majority of posters on Gransnet are right of centre Little Englanders.
The majority mind you! Oh dear dear dd you are not winning any friends on this forum are you? Good job you don't go to meet ups in RL if that is how you feel about people on here ( is this really the forum for you I wonder.)
And of course, complete nonsense, most seem to be centre ground and not Little Englanders at all, and if there are some Conservative voters ( naturally there are) they hardly dare open their mouths for fear of a verbal kicking.

1,760,000+ votes to stop him from meeting the queen.
180,000 to say he should meet the queen.
The debate will be interesting.

I've just heard the explanation as to why certain countries were chosen for the * temporary* ban. It's because their data systems aren't good enough to check people.
I heard that too petra, haven't read any papers or online papers today so it must have been on the news on radio or tv.
BBC News 24?

This might be a problem for the USA.

Jalima Tue 31-Jan-17 22:50:14

If Mr Trump does visit the UK, he is likely to stay at Windsor Castle, partly due to major refurbishment works that will be taking place at Buckingham Palace.

So maybe reports of HM horror at having Trump as a house guest is incorrect?

No, that would give her more of a horror as Buckingham Palace is regarded as 'offices' and used for State occasions, not as a home.

durhamjen Tue 31-Jan-17 22:51:46

It's just been said on the news that there haven't been any attacks by foreigners on American soil since 9/11. So why change the system?

Eloethan Tue 31-Jan-17 22:56:32

A perusual of a few of the political threads on Gransnet demonstrates quite clearly that whilst there are several left wing posters, there is an equally vocal number of right wing posters - the description of "group" can be applied to either. Sarcasm and unpleasantness isn't exclusive to the "left wing group".

rosesarered You know very well that there are Conservative voters on Gransnet - perhaps you will recall that after the last election several of them identified themselves as such - although they sometimes give the impression that they are politically neutral.

Chewbacca Tue 31-Jan-17 22:56:47

grin Jalima, good point! But I expect she'll be p*****d off at the thought of him being anywhere in the vicinity!

Jalima Tue 31-Jan-17 23:00:57

What sort of pleasant things do you wish to say about Trump's presidency, Chewbacca? Do go ahead.

Chewbacca has made him/herself perfectly plain that he/she finds Trump's views abhorrent.

If you can't see the problem with Trump, I guess you're going to see evrybody as a left-winger.
I think the poster can see the problem with Trump as can most people on here - but people may differ in the way they think the State visit should proceed or not.

There are some truly daft posts on here this evening.

Artwork is known to be therapeutic, perhaps painting a few banners in readiness for the State Visit would be soothing.

No Eloethan I do not know very well and as it is a while since ,perhaps you have a great memory.....who are they then? They certainly keep very quiet and no wonder!

rosesarered Tue 31-Jan-17 23:06:09

Yes Jalima in fact I really think today has been the worst day ever on Gransnet, since Brexit, and now since Trumps victory a sort of madness has descended mixed with hysteria.Things can only get better...?

Fighting betwen Ukraine and Russia is heating up again.
I wonder what Trump will do about that. He is supposed to be in favour of Nato now, and Nato is in Ukraine to support Ukraine forces.
However, Trump wants to have a great relationship with Putin.

This makes the pro-Trump rally even funnier.

I just looked back at the thread rosesarered. It is entitled "Do some Tory voters now regret their decision?" - dated 10 May 2015.

There were 10 posters: you, Merlotgran, Kettylester, Mollie65, Charleygirl, harrigran, Ceesnan, nigglynellie and POGS - all indicating they definitely did not regret voting Tory. Several did not specifically disclose their votes but their responses indicated they too were pleased about the result. Most of you continue to post on Gransnet.

Eloethan Wed 01-Feb-17 00:18:18

Trump is really proving to be even more disastrous that was feared. He has caused division everywhere and has now stirred up bad feeling with the EU. It is not "hysteria" - this man is dangerous.

MaizieD Wed 01-Feb-17 00:41:18

Oh dear, roses. Looking at your post at 23.01 and then Eloethan's of 00.14.
Had you forgotten that you were a Tory voter? You certainly don't keep quiet and neither do some of the other names on Eloethan's list.

Iam64 Wed 01-Feb-17 07:51:20

Thanks again Eloethan for your posts and especially for the one at 00.14

Anya Wed 01-Feb-17 08:58:35

Putin was just waiting for the Trump victory to make his move on Ukraine. Now we are seeing the beginning of his expansionist aims.

Watch this space.

AlieOxon Wed 01-Feb-17 08:58:46

Division here too....

rosesarered Wed 01-Feb-17 09:00:10

I was pleased about the result.......I wanted to make sure Labour was kept out at any
Price.I also said ( many times on this forum) that I am a Lib Dem voter, and was so happy they were power sharing in the coalition, and was disappointed last year that the same didn't happen.
The little list.....grin and why should anybody keep quiet, in fact some do ( as you have only named half a dozen) but there must be many more who are hugely put off by all the noisy left wing posters.

Penstemmon Wed 01-Feb-17 09:45:09

Have you been to any of the Compass group meetings roses?
A progressive alliance of Lib Dems/Labour/Greens. Working together to get rid of Tories at all costs.

Anniebach Wed 01-Feb-17 09:49:58

Corbyn has said the Labour Party will not form an alliance

Beammeupscottie Wed 01-Feb-17 10:01:58

If Corbyn can't form an effective opposition, how will he form any alliance with the little parties. To think the Lib Dems and the Greens can be taken seriously is really funny. Someone tell me how many seats they hold between them? Now, if they joined with UKip, the Tories might be fussed.
