The Trump presidency

The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?

It's not so much the Trump statements that make my blood boil - though they're bad enough.

It's the unseemly haste that May has desperately gone to the USA to seek some kind of ally. I mean less than a week after his inauguration - was it to stop Farage getting in their first, or even Paul Nutall from UKIP?

Her reckless speed in dashing over to Washington is a great benefit to a man who believes torture works, but smacks of cosying up to the playground bully.

On top of which the media are likening her to that dreadful Thatcher woman - maybe that's a sign of selling off what remains of Britain to the USA.

Uriah Heap would be impressed.

and 'puppet' is the last word I would use to describe Theresa May.
She will have her own opinion of him but has to work with him amicably for all our sakes.

She has told him firmly where we stand on interfering in other countries' internal affairs, unlike puppet Blair with Bush.

Why on earth would Teresa May prefer to trade with Trump and USA rather than EU!
um, she does want to trade with the EU but as we are on the way out we have to build up our own trade agreements with many countries instead of trading with them as part of the EU

Surely that is obvious?

I think he's a puppet and sometime soon he could implode, or be "imploded". I notice his body language has quietened around Theresa May. Someone has told him to "cool it".

I think one of the things Trump wanted from TM is an invitation to Buck House.....

annodomini Sat 28-Jan-17 10:10:39

Why on earth did she have to congratulate Trump on his 'stunning victory' which was nothing of the sort. She must know as well as anyone that in the popular vote he was 3 million votes short of Hillary. Surely she doesn't have it in her to speak 'tongue in cheek'?

otiva Sat 28-Jan-17 10:08:51

Why on earth would Teresa May prefer to trade with Trump and USA rather than EU! She and he deserve each other, 2 puppets.

We don't know what we will be accepting as yet, and as for 'crap meat' the best meat we have ever had was American ( they don't live on minced meat there.)
How about that old phrase 'waiting and seeing'?

whitewave Sat 28-Jan-17 09:39:51

Watched May on the news last night. Found it all toe curlingly embarrassing. Talk about unseemly haste. So we loose 30% of our trade with the EU and possibly get an extra 2% from the USA. In return we will have to accept their crap meat and open our NHS to their pharmaceutical industry - aren't ours good enough!!!??

Elrel Sat 28-Jan-17 09:28:17

That will be the one her diplomatic Foreign Secretary wrote a limerick about ?

petra Sat 28-Jan-17 08:28:05

Jane10 TM is flying direct to Ankara to meet a real dictator and despot: Erdogan

Jane10 Sat 28-Jan-17 07:04:12

I sort of want to phone Theresa today to ask 'how was it really'. She must be knackered with the strain of it all and the flights. Hope she can put her feet up this weekend. Why do I feel like her mother or even a friend?!
Meanwhile that misogynistic Wotsit (saw him called that in an article) has stopped all sorts of projects. He sounded a bit hoarse on the news last night. A good bout of Laryngitis might help prevent further aberrations albeit temporarily?

Oh! Boke (as we say in this part of the world) ?

Anniebach Fri 27-Jan-17 21:32:01

I had to google that , she certainly grasp his hand too

tanith Fri 27-Jan-17 21:22:07

I just watched it on video and it did appear as if he briefly held her hand on a bit of a slope as they came out of the door then she instantly let go, hopefully he was just being uncharacteristically gentlemanly.

Still YUKKY!!

Jane10 Fri 27-Jan-17 21:18:15

That would be it Ana! Its on the BBC news website.
Bet she's glad its over. Hope she can have the weekend to recover.

Anniebach Fri 27-Jan-17 21:15:21

Surely not Jane

Ana Fri 27-Jan-17 21:04:29

She was probably just trying to keep his hand from straying somewhere it wasn't wanted!

Jane10 Fri 27-Jan-17 21:03:08

Oh no. I've just seen a photo of poor poor Theresa holding hands with that man! shock How could she!!

varian Fri 27-Jan-17 20:20:26

Well if Chinese steel is good enough to build Trump's towers, it's good enough for Mexican tunnels

Judthepud2 Fri 27-Jan-17 20:06:22

vq grin grin

AlieOxon Fri 27-Jan-17 18:29:50

Love it, vq !

Jane10 Fri 27-Jan-17 17:26:05

I hope the Mexicans use British or Chinese steel for their tunnel!
