Apologies if there is a new Trump thread, but the only one I could find had hit the magic 1000 posts mark.
Just seen this on Facebook. Makes excellent sense.

The Ides of April is a mystery book set in Roman times. Perhaps I should download it and read it tonight. Yes, I think today is the Ides of April.

whitewave Thu 13-Apr-17 19:14:16

It is the biggest bomb they have that is not nuclear

whitewave Thu 13-Apr-17 19:10:56

So now we know. Trump has let off the "mother of all bombs in Afghanistan which destroys everything in a mile radius.

I need to think and worry about this

durhamjen Thu 13-Apr-17 11:13:08

When are the ides of April, Anya?
It's actually today, isn't it?
Shall I or shan't I go out with my grandchildren, just in case?

Elegran Thu 13-Apr-17 10:03:01

Trump v Kim as a lethal combination occurred to me even before DT was elected, Anya. I hope we all have our radiation-proof shelters ready and stocked with plenty of tinned food.

Anya Thu 13-Apr-17 06:56:56

I started a thread on the danger of Trump v Kim Yong Un a couple of days ago. Only a couple of people posted on it, seems that people are only aware after the event.

So here's my own prophecy, but let's hope I turn out to be a rubbish prophet...

Beware the Ides of April

Dj I actually felt like I wanted to stand up and sing the Star Spangled Banner when I listened to Trump calling Assad a butcher tonight.

durhamjen Wed 12-Apr-17 23:04:11

Being about trump, we could hope it's ALL fake news.
However, he has called Assad a butcher tonight. That wasn't in the list.

AlieOxon Wed 12-Apr-17 21:00:51

It left me holding my head.....

durhamjen Wed 12-Apr-17 17:14:11

I'm not sure whether to laugh or feel very disturbed by this.

Sorry, America. You are ruled by another dynasty, whatever you voted for. An unelected government.

I remember some of the tobacco stuff.
My school had the sense at the time (probably triggered by this?) to get us to read a paperback book called 'Battle for the Mind' which has done a lot to make me very cynical about adverts and....politicians!

durhamjen Mon 10-Apr-17 10:56:35

Here's an interesting take on post-truth. It's been going on since the 50s.

theconversation.com/it-was-big-tobacco-not-trump-that-wrote-the-post-truth-rule-book-75782

By the way, another interesting fact, the first trump tower was finished in 1984!

whitewave Sun 09-Apr-17 16:45:34

grin

durhamjen Sun 09-Apr-17 15:59:07

"Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has stepped up the war of words with Russia over Syria saying it was responsible for “every civilian death” in Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons attack on his own people.

Mr Fallon said Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin was to blame “by proxy” because it was the Syrian president’s “principal backer”. "

And then goes and hides behind trump.

TriciaF Sun 09-Apr-17 13:56:02

Glad you added that big smile,*whitewave*. He doesn't seem to give a damn about what others think of him.

whitewave Sun 09-Apr-17 10:51:54

Yes - but that's only another volte -face amongst almost everything he has done so far.

I wonder if his support is beginning to waver? Wouldn't be surprised.

He must be quite worried as Farage and Nuttal have criticised his Syrian venture grin

durhamjen Sun 09-Apr-17 10:47:47

Wasn't one of the reasons trump was voted in because he said he wanted to get rid of dynastic rule in the White House?

whitewave Sun 09-Apr-17 08:18:34

Interested -getting back to Trump and his advisors- to see how the fight for influence is being played out in the White House.

Apparently Bannon has taken a step backward with son-in-law Kushner becoming more influential. Kushner a previous Democrate is known as a hawk, and almost certainly was one of the advisors who were on the side of the Syrian attack. Kushner is like Trump totally unschooled in the art of world politics and Americas place in it, so we can but hope that Trump is being firmly guided by more experienced people.

The game of chess between Russia and America is being played out with the Middle East as background. In the pursuit of the terrorist - a stated Trump goal, I wonder how American intervention has helped this cause, and the suffering of the Syrian civilians. I think many IS and other jihadist must have given at least two cheers when they became aware of the assault on Assad by America. Putin has a lot to gain from this intervention with confusion as to what Trump intends to do next. On the one hand it is a "one off strike" on the other there may be other strikes. Let us hope that the White House at the very least thinks it knows what it's doing as so many countries who are toddling along in Americas wake need to hope so.

AlieOxon Sat 08-Apr-17 19:16:30

Not a lot!

whitewave Sat 08-Apr-17 18:08:49

Wonder who'd be left?

durhamjen Sat 08-Apr-17 17:28:36

Yes, I fancy a change. How about all politicians having to have lie detector tests.
