Apologies if there is a new Trump thread, but the only one I could find had hit the magic 1000 posts mark.
Just seen this on Facebook. Makes excellent sense.

Ana Sat 25-Feb-17 14:32:04

No, of course it wasn't, much as Obama wanted it to be. Some posters need to check their facts before posting!

I don't think that Guantanamo ever closed down.

rosesarered Sat 25-Feb-17 14:09:51

Iam64 Trump hasn't banned some news outlets, simply banned them from the White House ( or is that what you meant?)

POGS Sat 25-Feb-17 14:01:56

Whitewave

You say :-

" See trumpty dumpy is considering re-opening Guantanamo. Probably so he can set up all the torture he's so keen on."

Is Guantanamo 'closed'? I thought it was still operational, interested where I can find up-to-date information .

Obviously fake news.

Rinouchka Sat 25-Feb-17 11:47:17

The most worrying aspect of all this: so far, Trump followers actually believe that the truth comes only from DT's mouth.

AlieOxon Sat 25-Feb-17 11:11:51

Didn't he say 'anything negative in the media is fake news?'
trump will only listen to what he wants to hear.

.....some people just can't take criticism.....

GracesGranMK2 Sat 25-Feb-17 10:58:34

I would have thought he could have problems re the constitution by banning parts of the press. We may call experts to account but this man and his ilk must not be the answer surely.

Casualty -freedom of speech?

Iam64 Sat 25-Feb-17 09:38:42

To those who say give Trump a chance - well, look what he's doing with it. Democracies don't ban news outlets they see as left wing. CNN, the BBC, NY Times, Washington Post etc are all perfectly respectable news outlets. It's so hard not to feel just a bit anxious about this President.

Rinouchka Sat 25-Feb-17 08:43:02

Following the exclusion of CNN, NY Times, Washington Post, ABC, BBC, Buzzfeed and others from the Friday White House "gaggle" or news briefing, these news organisations and many others( Assoc Press, Time mag., LA Times) are boycotting the White House Correspondants' Dinner.

A few weeks ago, Sean Spicer stated that news organisations could not be banned from the White House because "That's what makes a democracy, a democracy versus a dictatorship".
Exactly.

This is interesting from Fullfact. They have been going round talking about fake news, and showing people how to find out if it is or not. You might have seen it on the television if you have kids/grandkids and watch Newsround.

Mohammed Ali's son was stopped at the airport because he was a muslim. His mother had a photo of herself with Ali, so was allowed through.

durhamjen Fri 24-Feb-17 23:58:09

This is interesting. Not sure what to think of it, a real modern dilemma for the president, I would think. I hope he doesn't tweet about it.

Does this mean another three sackings?
Perhaps they just want to be fired by trump.

Farage using trump's dodgy fake news to call trump a rapist.

Maybe he will want to keep Trident in the US. We can but hope.

whitewave Fri 24-Feb-17 13:10:49

Trumpty is "fully supporting the EU" at the moment - a month ago he "fully supported Brexit - the EU is failing"

He is also intending to extend the US nuclear arsenal. Good - that means he'll be able to destroy the world 10 times instead of 5. Quite useful.

nigglynellie Fri 24-Feb-17 12:43:48

Not sure about bemusing Ana! Boring, predictable and deeply tedious!!! Not to worry, Copeland was an excellent result!

Lewlew Fri 24-Feb-17 12:31:31

DJ oh puke city.

I was thinking of your lead in about the revulsion on HM's face when she had to hold Blair's hand singing at the Millenium NYE celebrations. She was maybe thinking... hmmm, well at least I don't have to hold that Cherie woman's hand! grin

durhamjen Thu 23-Feb-17 23:30:04

Hope this doesn't happen. The queen will have to go and hold hands with trump.

Feel free ana Freedom of speech prevails. The floor is yours.

Ana Thu 23-Feb-17 19:57:31

All this peddling and pedalling on the political threads is bemusing...not allowed to say anything though smile

whitewave Thu 23-Feb-17 19:56:45

grin

I suppose many of us would see say the DM at one end of the political spectrum and the Guardian at the other. I read both, DM on line, Guardian in RL. I also sometimes read the Telegraph or the Times, occasionally the Daily Mirror on line. I never read the Express but enjoy the made headlines. "Diana murder - Arthritis cure instant " etc.
I also enjoy the New York Times and the Boston papers (since my introduction to the USA)
Honestly - the DM does some fairly interesting investigative stuff, so do the other papers. The DM also pedals fear, prejudice and hatred. It seems it always has done. It supported Hitler and opposed the UK giving shelter to Jews escaping the murderous Nazi's, even the children.
No change there then. The loathsome Piers Morgan is currently leading the Pro Trump line in the DM (along with the equally loathsome Katie Hopkins)
The Guardian and the Observer are in many people's eyes left leaning. Of course, my own view is they're proper newspapers who provide detailed articles by good journalists who don't always follow the same line. I don't always agree with their conclusions or analysis but at least I feel those are not just based on bias.

Thankyou and good evening.
