Why doesn't Starmer hold another referendum?

Ugh.
Apparently she's Chair of Republicans Overseas.
Maw, I loved and adored The West Wing. Aaron Sorkin's scripts were brilliant and the cast simply grew into their parts. Alie, I missed that interview but it sounds like someone from UKIP who are the Trump cheerleaders in this country. And they're having their conference in Bolton at the moment.
That's telling me! I'll put it on my birthday pressie list.
Was it Jan Halper-Hayes?
I must finish my essay today and tomorrow, so GNing will have to wait. I will read all the links and thanks to all for posting them. Some very interesting comments to look over, too!
It's true about standing to acknowledge the office of prez. I made a post about is a page or so back and about our family car with a USAF officer sticker on it.
Trump was at Boeing on the news. He goes on and one about me me me protecting jobs. But if he retracts the Iran sanctions... their big Boeing order will go out the window. Doh?
It's like a Carry On film... OK, head down. Catch up later.
WHO was that woman on BBC1 about half an hour ago? Joan somebody but I didn't get he name. A trump supporter and an expert in not answering the question....she left me deeply worried.
MawBroon, thanks for the West Wing clip.
Spicer is so far from the wonderful CJ who was Jed Bartlett's press secretary.
Yes, we need someone like Bartlett, with his team in the White House. Trumping ton is becoming beyond parody.
Ankers is so right when s/he says "there are many ways to be rude to people".......

This is one unmissable series/box set. It is my "go to" at times of depression or frustration with the world. I should really have it on a loop in the background given the times we are going through
Well, that's my 'What I have I learned today' fact. I haven't seen The West Wing.
Ankers Does that mean that you agree it's not customary for presidents to be as rude as Trump was in the clip? Not only was he appallingly rude, but he completely ignored the question and started talking about himself. There's a pattern emerging here.
daphne "Day without immigrants* will be repeated on May 1st nationwide. Success is difficult to estimate but it effectively made people think, not least of all employers, many of whom participated; solidarity amongst immigrants of first, second generation was psychologically important. Museums also participated, hence the attached image.
On another point, the US ambassador to the UN, post the Trump/Netanyahu love-in, has reassured the UN that America will seek a 2-state solution for Israel/Palestine.
Confused?
Watch out today for the "campaign" rally in Florida and the message and crowd response. Trump wants to prove that the people are with him, not the law, Constitution, media.
Rudeness: it replaces wide vocabulary as a form of interchange and means there is no need for long, complex, thoughtful replies in any attempt at dialogue.

This is it. Do watch it through. A classic.
DT could have learned SO MUCH from Jed Barlet
Martin Sheen for President?
Anybody who has seen The West Wing will know that it is customary to stand up when POTUS enters a room. There is that wonderful scene where Jed Bartlett with impeccable politeness "demolishes " an obnoxious fundamentalist (I think I am remembering this correctly) woman politician.
Does anybody else remember that?
No, no way would I have thought they have always been so rude.
Though there are many ways to be rude to people.
But have they always been so rude? Have you watched the video?
the standing up is always done apparently
What? Every US president is downright rude to interviewers? Have you watched the video?
Apparently that is what is done with every us president daphne.
Did you see how Trump treated this Jewish man?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_lOTL2c0Hg
Trump invites questions, then tells the questioner to sit down, ignores any question which was being asked and then talks about himself.
PS. The standing up when Trump walks into the room reminds me of school assemblies.
Trump's reaction to the Day without Us protests?

Spicer said it was 100% false, but it was definitely written and discussed.
From The Last Leg.

Rinouchka and Lewlew, do either of you know anything about this?
Was it successful?

It's happening in the UK on Monday.
I am very worried for Palestine and its people now. DT has no historical grasp of the situation and his rant about how Palestinian children are taught to hate Israeli Jews in school was like a 'Red Tops' headlines rather than a statesman's address. Shockingly ill informed, biased and undiplomatic. Totally hawkish. #PalestiniansArePeopl
Rinouchka Something gave me the creeps when I heard Netanyahu chuckling (low growling sounds). I don't know if it was his amusement at Trump's inability to express his support for the one-state solution, or just for the administration saying there will be a one-state solution. Maybe both. My friend from Colorado used to work for Save The Children in Yemen and the West Bank. She said the West Bank was the worst place to set up temporary schools for children in crisis. The Israelis would wait till the building was up, then declare it as 'not temporary', and so as it didn't have a building permit, they'd bulldoze them down. There is land enough for all, it's all about my god is better than your god crapola.

LewLew ( just got home): in answer to your 10.36 post, yes, did see extracts from the hearing..
Having grown up in NYC, I have many Jewish friends who are appalled at Freidman's nomination, although they fully support the State of Israel, but not continued settlements. The Palestinian protester was spot-on: if more settlements are being given the green light and the two state solution is on the wan under Trump, what will happen to the Palestinians and what role will the UN play, given that Palestine was granted "non-member observer state" at the UN in 2012 with Dr. Ryad Mansour , as Ambassador to the UN? The small voice the Palestinians gained has now become even fainter.
No wonder Netanyahu feels that all his Hanukkahs have come at once!
