The fine is separate from the police complaints about it. They go to the CPS, not the electoral commission, but because the electoral commission has found something wrong, it will give the police more heart, I would think.

The comment on the radio was that it was the worse case ever. That is why the police are looking into it. I can imagine that there is a lot of activity behind the scenes to try and persuade the police not to press charges.

Whitewave, they would have been fined more than £70,000 but that was the maximum allowed.

Jess M

" I was talking to a union person about it"

Did you by any chance ask him/her about the European Union Posted Workers Directive, or did he/she offer up any comment on it?

whitewave Thu 16-Mar-17 11:05:03

Fined!

whitewave Thu 16-Mar-17 10:08:06

Failed on the corruption stakes as well. Just been find £70K+ and have been referred to the police.

Is there anything someone can point me to that is running smoothly and successfully?

It's shocking what is going on in the food retail sector gracesgran I was talking to a union person about it. It's easier to rota if you have your staff on 20-30 hours and don't have to give a full weeks work. Also it suits them if there is high turnover so they don't get to earn things like maternity leave (have to stay 2 years to get that).
So the philosophy is - employ them on 20-30 hour contracts and they will leave as soon as they can get a full week somewhere. Unscrupulous. Meanwhile the public purse has to help support these families via various in-work benefits.

The minimum needed as we enter such a difficult and turbulent period, is a government that we can trust to run a competent economy, able to pursue sensible and intelligent diplomatic negotiations and give at least some semblance of actually knowing what they are doing.

So far they have failed at every point.

GracesGranMK2 Wed 15-Mar-17 17:21:18

It isn't just low pay but hours too. You may get a job above the basic income - or even just above - at a supermarket but you will be lucky indeed if it is full time; the maximum on offer will probably be 30 hours. Even two basic wages x 30 hours is going to make it difficult to care for and bring up a family and almost certainly impossible to buy a house.

With the Tories unable to work out how to run an economy and running around like headless chickens, I just wonder where the money is going to come from not only to pay for Care but also to help all those who may be in work but are not able to earn enough to live even reasonably properly.

Tories also being accused of fiddling their election expenses, and fighting like rats in a bag over the issue.

whitewave Wed 15-Mar-17 15:31:26

The point is that this is the government and will directly affect our lives.

Ana Wed 15-Mar-17 14:48:39

'Any'

Ana Wed 15-Mar-17 14:47:58

Oh, sorry, forgot you refuse to state which party you support. An other party's policies that sound better, then?

Ana Wed 15-Mar-17 14:45:48

What alternative proposals has Labour got, whitewave? And please don't say PQE...

whitewave Wed 15-Mar-17 14:37:16

So where's the money coming from for social care? It can't come from general taxation, vat etc. What a useless shower the Tories are . We've had 7 years of utter incompetence. No wonder we are in such a crises everywhere you look.

There is no way that May wasn't aware of what Hammond intended to do -she is too controlling for that

I think really it would be far quicker if they ran their plans past Murdoch and Dacre first.

petra Wed 15-Mar-17 09:46:29

I can assure you * durhamjen* that I feel just as angry as you Re the price of housing/ social housing/ cost of renting.

JessM Wed 15-Mar-17 09:14:54

Not a chance they give a toss DJ. I think Boots should be ashamed too as all they "give" is permission for a donation bin in stores.
I am defecting to Superdrug if at all possible.
If I had more time I'd start a Boots thread.

durhamjen Tue 14-Mar-17 23:31:14

This should shame the Tories, even if nothing else does.

Tory election fraud on the BBC News at Ten. Doesn't look as if it's going away.

durhamjen Tue 14-Mar-17 22:22:24

Petition for PR now over 100,000.

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/168657

Just another 900,000 to get over a million, to try and stop the Tory rule for the foreseeable future.

Unless, of course, something happens with the election expenses scandal at last.

MaizieD Mon 13-Mar-17 19:29:12

You're still jumping the gun rather, MaizieD - we're not actually 'out of' Europe yet.

Ah. I didn't read anything about 'jumping the gun' in your post that I responded to.

So, do you think it might not happen after all, then?

durhamjen Mon 13-Mar-17 18:54:29

PQE, Welshwife.

Anniebach Mon 13-Mar-17 18:46:08

The bungalow I was living in was council owned, the fire alarm went wonky at a weekend, a chap turned up to fix it he he had driven from Birmingham, oh for the days when councils employed painters, carpenters. Plumbers etc. Locals had work, no waiting for an electrician to drive from Birmingham

Iam64 Mon 13-Mar-17 18:26:48

Yes indeed Welshwife.
Housing Associates were non profit making charities. I don't know how this can be sustained if the right to buy is imposed on them.
