And the bankers did nothing - neither did people like Maxwell.

And pension pots were massively depleted by Brown, to the tune of £118 billion, forcing thousands of pensioners into poverty. Many of whom had saved into their pensions their whole working life but had to go back out to work at 65 + just to live. Yup, the LP cares for the elderly and those in need.

It's a habit that successive Labour governments have always adopted, from Harold Wilson, and probably beyond, to the present day, unfortunately!

The deficit rose enormously while Osborne was Chancellor despite him keeping on about balancing the books. It was not so much Gordon Brown who opened a whole in the finances but it was the need to bale out the Bankers - prior to that we were in a reasonable state. Everyone forgets the bankers and blames the Labour Govt which has allowed the Bankers to get back to their old ways pretty quickly - they had hardly any dip in their massive bonuses.

Lots of money has been put into the economy over the last few years with no sign of being able to lessen it - borrowing is the highest percentage of GDP ever.

They borrowed so much that, when they left office, they left a note in the treasurer's office saying that the kitty was empty. It certainly was too. I seem to remember that Brown "borrowed" considerably from pension funds.

But of course it's dressed up as PQE, which is somehow supposed to make it seem more 'moral'...

The other problem for the Labour Party, is that nobody much trusts them with the economy.....and as May, and Cameron before her kept saying, if you don't have a healthy economy, there is very little money to do the things that need doing, including helping those that need help the most.

JessM exactly the opposite, I was refuting that only mega rich people should vote Tory, if that thought process applied, then only poorer people should vote Labour.In fact there is no reason that working class people should not vote Tory or that rich people should not vote Labour.They do, as different policies appeal to different people.
In fact, as we all know, the reason Labour are doing so badly is that all it's voters are not poor at all.Things have changed completely as to voting patterns.

Anniebach I took MY support to the party who is doing most for MY country,I'm pro independence as were the labour party ,their very first literature stated HOME RULE FOR SCOTLAND ,sadly Ms Dugdale and the rest of the scottish branch office have decided thats not what they want.The NHS in Scotland is performing far better than in the rUK,with over 92% of patients seen ,treated and either sent to a ward or allowed home within the 4 hour window.96% of Patients said they were either very satisfied or extremely satisfied with their NHS treatment ...so I'M not causing the problems in the English Welsh and NI NHS ,thats down to their administrations

Jess, I know you don't see it but all over the land people vote Tory for much the same reasons. I have voted for all the major parties at one time or another. I would never vote Labour just now because, rightly or wrongly, I think their policies would result in an economic car crash, and the NHS, education, standards of living and many other things would suffer enormously.

roses last couple of lines of your post a bit unclear. You seem to think that everyone votes out of self-interest. Rather than what they think is good for less fortunate people and for the country in general.
All over the land people vote Labour because they want everyone to have a reasonable standard of living, a good health service and a good education.
They are voting against the devil-take-the hindmost while the rich get richer doctrine of the Conservative Party.

The economy is doing okay for whom, roses?
Not the extra 160,000 disabled who are having their benefits cut. Not those on zero hours contracts and minimum wage.
Not those on here who are having to work longer hours before they can get their pension. Not those who cannot afford to buy a house.

Paddyann me too re Labour family background...miners daughter granddaughter etc etc. But Labour aren't any good either, they aren't fighting for the ones at the bottom of the pile, which is what the party used to be all about.

Can't agree with your views paddyann and what you consider a mess is no doubt due to the uncertainties of Brexit.Unemployment is at an all time low, the economy is doing ok just to name two good things.
I also can't go along with the 'unless you are mega rich why vote for them 'scenario, as that means that only if you are poor you could vote Labour or hope for a Socialist Government.

well I dont "hate" tories but I certainly dont understand why any ordinary person who isn't mega rich would ever vote for them.Lets be honest they're making a bigger mess than any government ever has in decades if not longer .I too vote SNP ,though I was raised in a family who were labour ,from day one of the party.The "crisis" in the NHS is manufactured so they can sell it off after proving how badlly its performing...its happening right under your noses ,and no one is fighting against it!
